i don’t think he is this year. doesn’t matter though Petrosyan smashes everyone now a days.
uhhh did it take it this long to be put on hdnet? cause this fight is from a month back.
I was not aware that he verbally submitted.
Usually for title or big matches, they wait until ABSOLUTELY SURE that the losing guy is getting an ABSOLUTE beatdown before they call out the TKO. I think it was back in 2008, where there were a lot of bad/early calls for TKOs (either by Yves Lavigne or Herb Dean… actually especially by Herb Dean) Afterwards they started to wait longer before calling the TKO.
Lesnar was quite hurt, and curling up, but I thought that the ref would call out for him to defend a 2nd time around, then they would make a call if they were completely not defending themselves.
There are a lot of fights in which the “losing” fighter is on the ground, getting a beatdown, and the ref waits it out a bit, and then sometimes they manage to get back on their feet and continue the fight.
After the fight was stopped, Lesnar was badly cut, but he wasn’t stunned or dizzy or unaware of his surroundings, and he didn’t have trouble getting up.
That’s why I thought it was about 3 seconds too early, IMO.
being ko’d isn’t the only reason you stop a fight. That fight could have been stopped 3 seconds earlier like 4 times before it was.
I’m going to have to agree with Songo on this particular point. There are many people from various backgrounds who use racial epithets/references when talking/referring to themselves or friends/family, but freak out when those same words/references are used by someone NOT of the same racial background. This a big problem because it causes confusion, and confusion can breed more anger and hate.
Haven’t you ever seen a white guy freeze like a deer in headlights when he hears the word “nigga?” If he’s under 40, he’s probably been taught that it’s a terrible word and should never ever be used. But he’s now in a situation with a black guy saying nigga this and nigga that and he doesn’t have a clue how to handle it.
Another example of how much of a minefield this word sensitivity is, is the black vs African-American issue. To some it’s not an issue at all, however I’ve seen a guy get corrected and lectured when he called someone black instead of African-American, and then not more than 3 hours later that same guy got corrected and lectured when he called someone African-American instead of black.
It seems that if everyone’s sensitivity and opinion is going to be different (and of course it’s going to be) than people just need to take a step back and realize that sometimes a person’s words don’t mean what we think they mean.
To me, Lesnar’s words about a Corona and a burrito were an obvious reference to Cain’s heritage. But were they meant in some hateful derogatory manner? I dunno. To some it was and to others it wasn’t. But if the solution is to prevent Brock from making any racial references in his speech, then that solution needs to carry over to everyone. If it’s not, then that’s just as discriminatory.
The other solution, which I think Songo is getting at, is that we stop nitpicking the words themselves and pay more attention to the reasons behind them. It’s definitely harder to discern, but it forces a certain level of tolerance across the board by giving everyone the benefit of the doubt.
Shouldn’t Dana be happy that UFC has a Mexican champion?
Mexicans are the only thing saving boxing right now. If he could siphon some of those fans over to MMA it would be a gold mine.
Tito just needs to stop fighting and just coach.
Yea that was a good stoppage. Lesnar was not going anywhere. Lesnar maybe hard to knock out cold but it doesn’t matter when he folds at the slightest amount of pain. His grappling and striking is a complete joke, very little skill, the only reason he was winning before was his huge weight advantage and strength, but that will only take you so far when fighting actual skilled opponents. Me and the people from the gym I go to were laughing our asses off at the fact that Lesnar can’t fight for shit.
I missed the event last nite
Also LOL @ thread title update…
Not entirely true…well actually its not true. Remember Sonny Liston? You know ho he used to train to help him from getting knocked out?
awww shit lol@ new title.
lol i think what lesnar said had racist conatations…but am i gonna cry bout it…fuck no. but tell me if lesnar was fighting a black fighter and he said he was gonna eat some fried chicken and drink kool aid…people would be thinking differently. somehow society had a larger excepted racism quota when it comes to latinos than blacks. trust me dana woulda gave that foo the pink slip if he said…im going to popeyes and eating my watermelon. but in the end you guys are making a bigger stink than me.
How many times has Lesnar been KO’d? That’s right; Zero. Everyone else you just named has been KO’d. How can you use them as an example of someone with a chin, and state that Brock doesn’t have one? He was hit by someone with 80 pounds over the person that KO’d Leben (who had the heaviest fight weight of the people you mentioned), and he was not KO’d.
Sure, he did not exactly maintain the most bad-ass stature after, but he still got hit by close to 280 pounds of mostly muscle by Carwin, multiple times, and did not go out. Look at what Carwin did to Mir, like it was nothing. Gonzaga, too.
If you can’t see the difference between not having a chin, and not liking to get hit, then you’re very much in a pot/kettle situation by saying that other people in here don’t know shit about combat sports.
Also, “Cool story bro” doesn’t work very well on these boards, as we tend to debate with these relatively obscure things, often referred to as “facts”.
Coming from someone that does train: If you train, that’s great, but the way you talk all kinds of wacky shit like that makes it definitely seem like you don’t, and that you sure as hell don’t fight otherwise you’d have a much greater for respect for his ability to take a punch, lack of composure or not. I would be surprised if any of the other guys in here that train hard (and there’s quite a few) would disagree with that assessment. But then, I’ve been wrong before.
In his last two fights, we’ve seen the man take almost a combined total of about 9 minutes of straight-up ass beatings by two fighters who are likely among the hardest hitters on the planet. To say that he has a bad chin is something that I cannot agree with. Bad psyche and response in regards to getting hit I can give, but we have yet to see this man separated from his consciousness in far worse situations than anyone else has been put in in a long, long time.
Apologies for the long, “cool story”, bro.
I think you two are just arguing semantics. When he says Brock has a bad chin I’m pretty sure he’s just referring to the fact that brock cannot take a hit, he even cowers and flails around from glancing blows. His training camp is obviously not pushing him. Sure brock is hard to knock out but it doesn’t matter because he loses all composure when he’s hit.
This article explains exactly how I feel about Lesnar except for the part where it says he has the tools to be a good fighter, he doesn’t. He has 0 stand up, 0 jiu jitsu and 0 heart. Now that brock’s been exposed I don’t think he’ll be able to return to his winning ways unless dana just feeds him tomato cans.
Does Brock Lesnar Have a Fighter’s Heart? Cain Velasquez Beating Raises the Question - Bloody Elbow
Nigga isn’t a bad word. It had a definition before it became a slur. The English language is abused and it’s unfortunate. It’s the context in which it’s used. But yeah, peoples level of awareness matters.
Dude, Brock Lesnar wouldn’t go to Pop-eyes. Reason? Too deep in a city for him.
good one songo
I see what you’re saying, and no doubt, semantics could be argued; but I’m more of the “that’s the incorrect usage of a term” opinion. Not having a chin means a whole separate thing to me than not liking to get hit.
I find it hard to disagree with that article either. He simply does not know how to deal with being hit.
A lot of people brought up steroids with Ken Shamrock in the past. I believe Frank Shamrock actually mentioned it, saying that it gives him this false sense of invincibility and then when he’s off of it and gets in the cage and gets hit, he crumples. I wonder if that plays a part in it? I mean, I know he’s clean and never failed a test and benefit of the doubt and yadda yadda yadda… but if he has taken steroids in the past and it gives him that same false sense of security and then he gets somewhat broken mentally once he realizes that shit hurts a hell of a lot.
His face shows all that needs to be said about whether he can take a good punch or not, IMO. Whether or not he can deal with the pain and relentless opponents still beating your ass even though you’re curled up in a ball is definitely not in question; he gets hit first, and he’s mostly beaten. I almost think it’s unfortunate for him that his chin is so damned good, otherwise he wouldn’t have to take such an assing.
I think so.
i was under the impression they showed these fights live on hdnet or alot quicker than that. lol. feg is one lazy company.
so whats up with everyone juuuust noticing it last night?
sweet lordy can they upload the sam stout fight now?! argggg. i hate how hes one of my favorite fighters but he takes a fight once in a million years.
lesnar was already exposed when he fought carwin. The fact that he’s only been ko’d once in his career means NOTHING because he’s only had 7 fights.
