The Mega Man Thread

After a mid-screen Shoryuken you can get (cr.lp, pause, cr.mk), but it is very difficult.

I don’t care what you guys think about MM not being a joke character. He is missing basic things that ALL characters in the game have (like links, and combos that don’t start with only one attack before the special).

the bnb I’m talking about doesn’t use meter.

I don’t think he’s a joke character either. He’s a zoner IMO and will also have decent combos when it’s all said and done.

Less health than Akuma, horrible movement, bad buttons. Only reason to use is because you like the character.

im just throwing this out there but it seems to me megaman is the link of this game

he has 3 projectiles all with unique properties

thunder beam has really weird angles for a projectile… i think EX might have tons more potential than the straight up and down version… especially considering megaman has AIR COMBOSSSSSSSSSSSS

megabuster cancels out all other projectiles and can be reshot fast enough to gain distance over every other projectile i have seen so far(tiger spam being one of them so i didnt bother looking at more yet)

ice slasher can be used to force a left/right mix up on peoples get ups

i havent experimented much but im sure he has to be SUPER zoney… and maybe i am wrong bcuz i havent looked at nor plan to look at the other trial combos but why is his the only one with air juggles into more air juggles?

just some stuff to think about. too bad link is the sucks in every smash game.

People like Ryu, Rufus, Juri, etc. also have air normals that juggle on hit and can land and air juggle again (or in Ryu’s case for instance, cancel his air MP into Tatsu). Mega Man’s unfortunately can’t cancel his j.MP into Thunder Beam from what I’ve tried, though I haven’t tried using his other air normals yet.

On another note, MM’s Mega Buster seems to be one of the strongest single hit travelling projectiles in the game (80, compared to most others being 70 and under). What are the properties of his EX version though, since it deals the same damage?

its also the fastest reg projectile i think… it beats out even tiger spam. maybe EX is just faster and cancels… the more i play megaman the more like a link he feels.

has anyone been able to replicate the fly glitch? if so how? jumping and quick combo doesn’t work.

the ice slasher looks like an excellent mix-up tool. I use it for that after a hard knockdown. MM fits me, keeping people right where i want them until they need to eat plasma.

megaman doesnt have hard knockdowns…

megaman is gimped, someone add me if they honestly think they are good with megaman… i wanna see if im missing something.

i can’t figure out how to use the ice slasher effectively in a combo outside of the corner. mm would have been so much better with some tweaks to either his speed, his dmg output, recovery on mega buster or ice slash…something.

i’m trying but i can’t effectively zone with this guy.

So after playing with him all week, here are some things I picked up, starting with some combos(note that these aren’t corner combos or use EX as I feel those combos are counter to megaman’s game)

BnB: c.lp(x3), c.lk, s.mk, s.hp, launcher

Does around 180dmg which is not a lot and ends in a launcher but as megaman if you’re close enough to your opponent to do this then you want to tag out anyway =p

Punish: s.hp, uppercut, c.lk, buster

Good damage(290) and puts the opponent at the perfect distance. Follow up with hp.ice blaster for pressure on wakeup.

I originally wanted to to constantly combo into a sweep then get the wakeup pressure with iceblaster/thunderbeam but sweep puts you too close and both of those specials will whiff. Megaman doesn’t have a reliable knockdown that puts you in a position for setups with iceblaster/thunderbeam which is a huge letdown because I think that this is where megaman would shine.

Specials:

Mega Buster: does great damage and works as a good combo ender. I have no idea where EX would be viable(does the same damage as normal)

Ice Blaster: not as great as I initially thought, can be easily dodged and punished close range and is obviously inferior at full screen. There’s a sweet spot at mid-range where mixing up ice blaster speeds can get your a free hit but it’s not realistic to expect to follow-up after. EX can be used to extend a combo but megaman’s damage is so bad that it’s a waste of a bar.

Thunder Beam: decent for keep-away but this special could be amazing if it didn’t have a height requirement. You want to do it as low to the ground as possible on your way down. Recovery is too high to use it for mix-ups or pressure. (fun fact: I once hit Hugo with all 3 beams when he leaped[over 200 damage]). Decent damage on hit.

Random tips:

If you’re going to dash, dash cancel out of charging mega buster. Now your dashes build meter!

When zoning at full/mid screen, dont just stand there after shooting a buster shot, whiff a s.HK after every shot to build more meter.

I think the EX Mega Buster eats other projectiles. So, they just disappear.

EX Mega Buster is hardly worth it. It still only has 1 hit point of durability and doesn’t do extra damage. Hell, I had Akuma’s M Shakunetsu Hadoken tear through it like nothing.

ice slasher is used to make left/right unblockables on oki, and so is thunderbeam.

megaman RAPES wake ups.

I encountered a ‘boss’ version of Mega Man tonight while playing Arcade mode with Blanka and Sakura.

After the third match I think…

Screen flashed a big WARNING and - voila! - I was battling Mega Man. Beat him down and continued through the rest of the game, including the rivals match vs Lars and Alissa, and vs Jin & Xiaou.

Anyone else see that happen? Cool MM remix (Cutman stage, I think) playing in the background.

I don’t see it at all. Explain.

heres an example: you fire a slow ice or medium ice when they get knocked down(depending on the distance) and do an aerial so that it would hit the middle/backish of their head. if you are doing it right one of those will hit everytime.

we need some match videos of this.
