The Master of DLC Unlocking -The Jill Valentine Thread

Hey guys, can someone (especially Rice) explain to me Jill’s start of the round strength? I’ve heard that it’s on a par with Wolverine or better. Why is that? It isn’t because of SS is it? I didn’t think that you could 22S at the start of the round. Or will the game allow you to do that?

Jill’s strength comes with closing the distance and using resets to never let up, which gets to be pretty tough sometimes against certain character combinations. At the start of the round, you’re given the opportunity to have literally no space between you and the bad guy, and if you can land that one hit before they do, there’s your ticket in.

You can use her throw or air throw to start following their tech if you want, or toss out one of her faster moves like any of her :l: normals, or start pressure with jumping attacks (especially against giants whom you can effectively combo with jumping attacks while they’re standing), whatever. Even if they block it, you probably don’t care because even a blocked hit is good for you, as it only takes one feral dash (backed by an assist, possibly) to either get back in after a pushblock, or perform a mix-up. You probably won’t kill off of the first touch, but It’s a chance to not allow them to do anything.

I never had good results with this. I almost always backdash at the beginning of the round. But against zoners, I like to keep half screen distance. It allows me to feral and cross up, or not, and it keeps me safe from buttons.

So Since Im trying to make Jill Doom Sent Work does anyone got any tips on what assist i should use on Jill? I was thinking arrow kick since I get beam hit confirms but I mean like the Neutral between Doom Sent ain’t that good without a beam assist really.Also I found a amazing Reset that I hope to make a video on and show u guys I think it will Help Jill out alot in the future

Well we have talked in other live streams, i hope that when your ready that you can share that with us. I also hope to see you play more Jill in the future, I personally like that team as well and experimented with it a bit.
I may try it out again as a side team, I also wish Jill/Storm was better, but at least you have tac infinites both ways. Anyway good luck with that corky :tup:

Hello guys and girls this is pretty stu… but i try jill since vanilla and i dont get her meta i look combo videos and some guides but i think i dont get it maybe its the team shes part of it not for her but dont know any advice or some links to a guide help me to understand her better will be nice

Hullo there. Your question is a very broad one that may be better answered through independent reading. Each of the sticky threads on this board contains a great deal of information from character meta to match-ups to combos and advanced tactics, and more controversially team construction.

My suggestion is that you thoroughly peruse their contents, and then ask there any more specific questions you may have.

Just wanted to say im still alive. Havent been playing marvel much recently. Ive been on a Final Fantasy marathon, and god damn that vortex is stronk as f***. Replaying FFVI, FFVII, and FFVIII, while trying to finally finish XIII-2 so I can move on to XIII-LR…AND playing FFXIV. Combine that with 6 days a week of work + 5 days a week at the gym + having to make time for my wife and all of the house chores…guiz. I need more time in my day guiz.

I kinda miss marvel, but I just dont have a lot of time for it right now =(

I’ve seen you post in other threads, I’ve had no doubt that you’re still around :P. I’m in the same boat as well, but I’m just not playing as many different games as you. Guild Wars 2 w/ the gf, misc. gf time, and 10+ hours @ work, doing as much gym as I can. I still play at UCI on Tuesdays, that’s the only time I get to Marvel, really.

So I’m kind of stuck with Jill / RR / Strider for now. I should really learn the new Hitbox Dustin XF3 strider combos though.

Yeah I saw those jump dash strider combos and it blew my mind. I was under the impression hit box controllers were banned though because you can block left and right at the same time.

You can’t block left and right at the same time on a hitbox.

You used to be able to, but the manufacturer of Hitbox made it so you can’t. However, you can jump and charge down though lol. So Chun can get that EX SBK while jumping.

I wanted to ask on the other thread, but that is a team building thread, not so much of a general Jill thread. But yeah, how do you guys handle the start of the match with certain Characters??? Like what exactly do you do against the more common point characters (wolverine, Magneto, Nova, Hulk etc…) that works 50%-75% of the time during the start of the round? I know everybody does something different but this is something i’ve been meaning to find out for a while now, just to see if i’m doing the correct thing myself…

I play a different style than other Jills it seems. At the start of the match I backdash almost 100% of the time. I try to keep feral crossup distance between us though. So if they back up, I walk forward. I use j.L a lot too, as it stuffs a lot of things early.

Well For me there can be many different opening gambits vs Hulk really. You have Tech throw cr. LMH combo but you gotta do it as soon as you tech then grab. Another thing you can do is Tech throw Cr. L snap back. Not only does this put the fear of the hulks not being able to do the opening round gimmick but if they have a assist that is commonly thrown with Hulk like Haggar you can snap hulk out and bring in haggar anchor or the anchor character in general.There is some more that im thinking of but i haven’t tested it.
