Hey, man, I just got a similar letter from the same guy! Look at this. I think we have to share stuff like this:
"Hello Paulo Junior!
My name is Dan, and I am messaging you because I’ve been watching a lot of your umvc3 Jill gameplay videos. I too am trying my best to become a very strong Jill user, and it’s sad to see not a lot of people use her. When I watch you play with her, it’s truly amazing and I learn a lot from it.
I just wanted to say thank you for uploading the amazing gameplay videos, because I’m a huge fan of the way you play with Jill (as well as your Skrull and Hawkeye gameplay).
Keep on winning! =D
Dan"
Then I added him on Xbox Live and we played a few matches (Brazil x USA is pretty laggy, of course) and he blowed up on happiness. HAHA
How is she better then magneto nova haggar and DOOM!? Not having a projectile and poor air options is a HUGE weakness for a solo character … but i do think shes good vs people who can’t fly/sword characters
You’ve got him there. She’s a great point character that can have an answer to pretty much anything and have some of the meanest mix-ups given the right assists. Solo, though, she’s got a myriad of troubles. Ground-based and projectile-less, her goose is cooked against several significant characters. If the team ever boiled down to her, she would have to rely on her intimidating speed in X-Factor 3 while still struggling, but still die in a single touch because of her low health.
Jill is underrated, but she’s not a lone wolf. She might have really good answers to several of the exhibited proclivities of said characters, but all they have to do is not do anything stupid like that and now she’s in trouble. All it has to take is one Somersault against Magneto’s tri-dash mix-ups, Nova’s air dash :h:, Haggar’s jumping pipe, or Doom’s Foot Dive for them to realize you have them beat there and that they should try one of their other tools better suited to beat you like Disruptor, Gravimetric Pulse + Energy Javelin, Lariat or Plasma Beam + Photon Shots.
Just because you have an advantage on a character, that does not mean you have the better character. That said, they’re definitely beatable and far from impossible, especially because none of them are named Zero.
The doom matchup is so lopsided in her favour That I can’t understand why you would think otherwise.
Haggar’s matchup is completely a stalemate. Haggar counters Jill tools, and jill counters his.
Nova is slow and has alot of startup frames on his moves. You should always be pressuring him. The worst thing you have to worry about his forward/down AD; but you should always be in a situation to somersault/whiff cancel anyway.
Mags is in his favour.
I hate tiering characters solo, so these are with optimal assists on both ends. Many matchups are hard to gauge solo (unless it’s completely lopsided in one’s favour, like Jill v. Zero in Zero’s favour)
I agree that Doom’s matchup is in her favor, IF she has the life lead. If it ever came down to her and doom, he can just fly around and photon shot all day if he has the lead. This is a bit more difficult. Sure you can shoot him down a couple of times w/ random MGS but he’s just gonna fly away again. And that’s also the problem w/ Weskers that like to jumpshot.
how the heck is it in jills favor ? like unless you have an enormous life lead i’ll give you that … but otherwise no way having flight and being aware of somersault is ridiculously depressing fights LOL … i dont know if you guys play with really top players but good god they really focus on playing on her weaknesses and thats huge with a character that has blatant limitations =\ believe me when i say this … flight characters with projectiles own jill also imo haggar beats her too only because he effortlessly hit confirms with lariat and super into super and you die LOL you need a reset … which you can’t do any meaty ones because he has invul options =[
Assuming solo, try using MGS to take them down if they’re flying like that. They probably won’t block it unless they’re Morrigan or MODOK, and that will take them down and give you another opportunity to try again. Otherwise, use your anti-air assist.
I play against Haggar a lot. It has to be one of the most frustrating things. You’re dead if you get hit by Lariat, which simply effortlessly counters pretty much all reset attempts you try, as well as any escape attempts using MGS. Do not MGS against him. Stick to low confirms like c:m: that will duck under Lariat and keep you safe. Learn to punish and bait it, and remember that he can’t do it in the air. You also may be surprised to know that Jill is actually fully capable of escaping Haggar’s silly resets without much effort with her air normals.
Oh man, Bum? Is he still using Haggar/Hulk/Chris? I imagine that team would just tear Jill to pieces. Lariat, Gamma Charge super armor, low projectiles, and super-jump camping. Hell on Earth.
I understand you also have to play against RayRay a lot. It’s no wonder you hate Magneto.
its just on paper things sound like jill can fight it but people wont approach her if they do they bunny hop and block … its ridic … because they know even IF they get air thrown she does nothing off it …
dont get me wrong i see potential in the character … and tbh i really see potential is fighting morridoom with her because her ports and movement on ground really scare morrigan also one MGS and it clears the screen so thats really really good … ports messing up her inputs for fly/unflys which is what i was going for the first time i used her on chris but i feel like i’m 100% better then i was in general so it should help … not saying that he didn’t get better just feel like its a lot more even in skill gap now
If they make a habit of chicken-blocking you as an approach, then try diagonal dashes for a cross-up overhead, or Somersault and stance-cancel it to go for another mix-up. Stay ambiguous and stay in that ass, as NSR always so wisely states. Jill has the power almost better than anybody to just be completely unrelenting and unpredictable, being fast as hell and scaring them poopless. Remember that you can cancel almost everything with FC, so pushblocks do not have to be an issue; just FC when you think they’ll pushblock and do whatever you want, maybe dash back in and keep on pounding. Jill will actually cross up with her feral dash if either she or the bad guy was wedged in the corner during the pushblock.
Also, don’t overlook Jill’s air throws. They’re stuck on the ground afterwards long enough for you to assume a comfy position, go into FC, and predict their tech for a reset, cross-up, mix-up, COMMAND GRAB, whatever the heck you want to do and call it. Guess their ground tech correctly and you’re golden unless they’re like Haggar and have an instant invincible move they can just use as a reversal. Maybe try practicing those kinds of chases some time; it’s a lot of fun.
One thing I love doing is when I guess their tech right, to add in or omit a regular dash after the feral dash when timed a little late. With an extra dash, you will cross up, and without it, you won’t. Now you have them spooked into guessing which side you’ll be on when their invincibility from the tech wears off.
Don’t forget that MGS also catches assists. X-Factor cancel that and you can potentially have yourself a double kill. Jill is so good at double kills, and it builds so much meter with her it’s insane.
Here you are that’s why. Take a look at 4:00. I was not intendind to be pathetic just posting a video of mine, but I guess this time I played Jill as she must be played against Doom.

And, guys, I didn’t make a statement based on matchups. When I say “Jill is better than Doom” is like she’d have more ways or facilities to beat a certain number of chars than him. But it’s just my opinion, no need to be mad.
I guess the definition of opressive is at 0:43. May a no Xfactor Jill attempt to comeback against a keepaway Dante and a Vergil (both with full life and meter)? Yeah, it’s possible.
Like Paulow, I have videos of showing how the Jill v. Doom matchup is completely skewed in Jills favour, this is seriously the one time I would advertise looking at my old gameplay.
This is why I really peach using a lock down assists, it makes matchup like these far more in her favour then it already was. With Jill, Doom looses his best tool (Footdive) and his clunky mobility allows jill to walk all over him. Once in, Doom has nothing to oppress jill on the ground, which should allow you to just go at it with no repercussion.
Doom can only zone jill out if you’re at a full screen distance, which Jill should mostly never be anyway. Best overall Jill tip I could tell anyone is to stay oppressive.
nah man he shouldn’t be on the ground he should stay in the air and camp you knowing that air grabs from lonely jill aren’t good … listen i didn’t say it was impossible i just said i dont think its in her favor … also no one is mad bro … also that video makes me want to play skrull even more !! =[ i miss him too lolol
also NSR i was just saying solo jill but i guess we shouldn’t even be in that predicament lol
True you shouldn’t be in that predicament, but what if you are running a threatening anchor like Strider or Vergil? They’re prone to get snapped in, and eat some BS mixup and then boom, Jill is left by herself. Just saying that it happens, and we should have a gameplan prepared for it and not just toss our hands up and be like… “WELL this is like Doom vs. Hawkeye.”
