The Master of DLC Unlocking -The Jill Valentine Thread

In Mercs she didn’t have the mind control thing or the scars.

Damn you…Showing me up on RE5 knowledge

Forgot how sick that whole scene was…
Forgot how real sheva and jill looked too.

So this guy, John D, at Capcom Unity accidentally said that Jill and Shuma character pack will cost 10$. If that is indeed true, I suggest everyone who is interested in buying them order the collectors edition (if you didn’t already) as it comes with more stuff for the same money. He also said that the characters aren’t ready yet.

I honestly doubt they are far from being finished, likely Capcom are just doing some balancing with them. Knowing that all the DLC has to be approved by both Sony and Microsoft, they should be like 90% complete now. So it doesn’t mean we have to wait for some footage after the release, after all, they did show an unfinished version of Magneto (and I’m sure many other characters). It is most likey just to answer the popular scrub question “why aren’t they on the disc already?”.

They damn well better be near finished. Otherwise they are gonna throw them to the public at the last minute, and both characters won’t be balanced (for better or worse) at all. Not to mention they may have game breaking bugs, like cause the game to freeze or some shit.

I would about guarantee they’re both almost done. I really just assume they’re balancing the charaters now. They will be on the disc for sure. I could be wrong, but that’s my guess. Look at how much trouble Capcom had to go through with the new costumes for SSFIV 'cus they weren’t on the disc. Really excited to see some Jill gameplay and try her out. She has always been my favorite RE hero/heroine (well, maybe tied w/ Rebecca Chambers).

I agree that she’ll have a Sonson-like wall run. I also assume she’ll have alot of moves that focus on her Skorpions and sniper rifle. Perhaps one of her hypers might involve the Executioner? Chances are he was just cameo cannon-fodder for Hulk, but you never know.

I’m pretty sure everything on the disc should be validated by ESRB, DLC or not. Since Capcom has submitted all the content a long time ago, they can’t add any new content on the disc. They can adjust it (balancing), but adding two characters would require a new submission. I seriously doubt they were ready on 20.11.2010.

Having the BSAA version already is enough to resist right… RIGHT?

On topic, seeing that cutscene again, Jill is surely going to be unique enough with wallruns and agile moves…

i honestly rather have the bsaa suit instead of that battle suit

looking at that trailer again, anyone else think she might have a lot of grabs? Speedy grappler type could really work for her with all those flip holds and submissions.

That would be interesting…

I’m calling it now–she get’s multi-part grabs and 10-strings

here’s how I would design her.

very fast with some good projectile cover, but nothing too overwhelming. She does rather poor damage when she combos the opponent in comparison to other characters, but she can start a combo from any series of ground unblockable command throws, and end it with a guaranteed reset into an aerial command throw that adds a small extra chunk of damage to her combos. Her command throws also have rekka inputs, meaning three-part throws that can put the opponent into different positions on screen depending on button/motion pressed. So if you’ve got your back to the corner, you can judo throw the opponent into the corner and combo from there, or you can rush them all the way to the other side of the screen Karas-style and slam them into the ground for an OTG followup instead.

ground strings generally turn into air combos, and at the end of the air combo you can whiff and then cancel into an air throw which brings the opponent back down to the ground and leaves them in a state where they can’t be comboed further (to avoid loops with assists like Wesker’s samurai edge) it adds a chunk of unscaled damage to your combo and puts you in an advantage position.

However, she’d have a super that can only be done during any one of her grab states, that includes on her way down from the air grab, so you can combo > air grab reset > supergrab chain for a large chunk of unscaled damage at the end of a combo.

She’d also have a special where she pauses and then teleports, similar to Wesker, but it’s actually a dashing grab similar to Rogue’s, just much faster. Light version is a ground grab, Mid version is an anti-air grab that goes upwards at an angle, and strong version is a feint.

but knowing capcom they’ll probably just make her into a chun li v2 and call it a day.

Ok, I never understood this statement, why Chun? You really think Jill will end up having only one useful special?

not quite what I meant. I’m talking about them slotting her into the plain melee agile female type with very little in the way of gimmicks and cool tricks. Chun is a great character but she’s pretty straightforward. You just airdash and combo, mash legs till dead.

What I would like would be to go Noel, make her heavy a gun combo move and give her a special combo which can end in different inputs but the inputs change the ending like Rufus’s Messiah kick and such.

Exactly, but why do you think Jill will end up a one trick pony? Is there any indication of that? The only confirmed info we have is that Jill is really fast, and that calling her an “acrobatic gun user” isn’t that far from the truth. Both statements provide almost no actual info on her playstyle.

He is saying Capcom will go the lazy way most likely and make her a straightforward character, high speed with some gun projectiles thrown in.

But you dont so what the hell are you talking about?

Wish and hope and prey for things that clearly wont and cant happen based on whats already occured.

Man I really wish they woulda gave Wolverine his (insert random costume from 1970s comic book). That would have been so much better than (insert random costume from current game build)

I understand, but is there any evidence to that? Because Capcom didn’t use MvC2 Jill? Wasn’t she a really straightforward character despite having quite original moveset? They used RE5 Jill because we already have RE5 Wesker and Chris. Besides, MvC2 Jill is pretty much impossible in a game with high resolution 3d graphics anyway (5 different 3d models instead of one).
