I dunno, Dan sucks in most games, but I’d dare say he’s not bad at all in this game. His supers are really really easy to land and do a lot of damage, you can combo in his Dan Kicks from S. Mk for a good ground game, he has nice anti-air and a nice launcher, though his air combos are kinda bleh and his dash sucks. Oh, and he’s got one of the best throw ranges in the game, as well as some of the best throws. His big trouble is that he isn’t too mobile without his S. Mk XX Mk Dan Kick stuffs (horrible dashes), bad air combos, and he takes damage like a bitch.
I think your forgetting the big one. Dan can’t do ground chain combos. Dan’s slow dash/lack of ground chain combos mean he can’t mount any sort of offence and basically has to rely on the counter-punching strategy. He can’t play keep away, he can’t rush down… what’s there left to do.
You’re probably right. I haven’t played this game in a long time, and my knowledge of fighting games in general has improved vastly - I would have never thought of turtling strategies back when I played, so they’re probly pretty effective Still, against people who don’t know any better, S. Mk XX Mk Dan Kick can be pretty effective.
Nori’s around mid I think, given his zoning powers and small size. I haven’t played the Japanese version in ages though.
Dark Sakura has the teleport at least. But yes, both forms were much better in MvC2, what with the special-to-super cancelling and the hurricane kick glitch.
I’d also put Shadow Charlie at the bottom because of his super move lag (stupid eye sparkle) and lag in general. XSF and MvC2 Charlie were better.
I think that Hulk/Cap/Agent were the only really useful assists. A Cap/Agent team was frustrating to fight against. j.hp’s + Charging Star assist all day.
i like messing with dan in this game. for my dan it’s all about LOTS of taunting, c.lk->shinkuu gadou or the qcb+kk super, and c.fp^sj.lp, sj.lk->air throw mixups.
Ah, the MSH/SF thread. I use to play alot of BH and Mech Gief in this game. I say he’s better in this game then he was in MVC2. I didn’t care much for Shadow neither…he wasn’t like X/SF Charlie.
I agree. Eye twinkle made it stupid difficult to combo into anything. Final Mission was a cool looking super, but it’s just not practical or useful in any means. He’s got a cool theme song at least
And then probably Spiderman and some other characters. This game is a lot like SFIII in terms of balance. Some characters are just really friggin good (Omega Red) and have advantages over others, however, it’s possible to win with pretty much any character in this game. I’m under the impression it has a large mid-tier. Sakura is not too bad in this game. Captain America is pretty solid too. As are Bison and Shuma Gorath. There’s a lot of selection for useful/effective characters.
As for assists; the best IMO are;
Hulk/Akuma
Blackheart can be useful as an assit too since it; hits characters on the ground; hits characters jumping in towards the “bulb” of the lightning.
There’s some possible confusion tactics with Akuma; get in close after you’ve downed an opponent and activate assist. Then start a poke chain or anything you want. Akuma will go through the opponent and start kicking on the other side. So your opponent is being attacked from both sides. It isn’t unblockable, but it’s effective lockdown and can be confusing at times. Hulk is just a generally really good assist.
For Omega Red, I’ve always favored cr. mp xx qcf+k as anti-air. If you time it right, it’s a two hit. If they block the cr. mp, you’re still good. Also, his super does come in handy for … again, confusion tactics. Grab them using qcf+p and after sucking them dry, launch them straight up. Now make sure you float straight down (so they’re directly above you). Activate super. They’ll fall on it. It can be confusing to some opponents.
Also Ryu has some weird glitch (not sure if it’s a glitch) where if you jump into his hurricane kick super at the right place/time and even if you block, you’ll eventually get sucked into it. It’s messed up and has caught me many times.
Blackheart has some retarded corner lock down. After launching air hk/hp (opponent in the corner) land and st. hk. The kick as well as the demons should stop them in place. As BH is performing the move, cancel into your assist. Jump and attack at the same time. You can do a super in the air now if you want while they’re locked down. You can repeat this until they wisen-up and push block you away.
top
wolverine
omega red
cyclops
armor spidey/spidey
mid
BH
ryu
ken
akuma
chun
low
everyone else
i put cyke high because his s.lk s.hkxxSOB does damage thats too good for this game. he can also cancel his s.hp into specials. his runaway game is too good.
Wow … anyone looking for advice I would take everything said in that post with a grain of salt. Cyclops is a solid mid DEFINITELY not even close to Wolvy. BH is around the top, at least as good as Spidey if not better. Ken is miles worse than Ryu. Akuma’s good for assist but takes damage like a rag doll. Chun is pretty bad due to her launcher being pure and utter trash. Her combos aren’t the best and she could have been much faster IMO.
Dhalsim is NOT low; in fact he is ANIT-BH (!), which means a great deal since BH is generally high up there in the tier list.
Bison is retarded. Great damage, easy combos, almost broken throw range. Tick into throws are really effective with him.
Hulk is just … retarded. Too much damage. Surprisingly fast. One of the best assists in the game.
Shuma Gorath has his uses. Decent combos and can stay pretty much on the ground the whole fight with decent ground game/anti-airs. Ultimate pressure/chase with his lv 3 super grab of DOOM.
Blarg, I’ve always wondered if that was just me…Also, Omega Destroyer seems to have a similar effect. Sometimes in matches that come down to the wire, I just whore Omega Destroyer x3 and it occassionally had a guard breaking effect! My friend and I who played it a lot were never entirely sure why…
Anyways, I still think it’s a real pity that people didn’t like this game. It can be pretty fun, and the balance is nice. I use Omega and Wolvie, and my friend can still rock pretty hard with his Shuma/Bison team. It’s crazy.
k if anyone wants to play me on kaillera ill show u which characters suck and dont
BH is ok but im sure he is not top, reason being he cant really damage you. sure it gets annoying and its not easy to get in, but BH relies on u to try and get in and get hit. if u just block while jumping in everytime ur fine, eventually u will corner and own the fag.
cyke is top because his normals are just too good. jump in d+hk. runaway hk. even his special/supers are too good. he is also a great assist, his gene splice owns wolv and rushdown characters.
I agree with what you said about Cyclops, but I don’t think that makes him as good as you placed him in the tier list. I find his normals are good, not “too good” though. Cr. lk is a great poke, you can do it slowly too, catching an opponent with two/three then going for the st. mp launcher even, or following up with a st. lk, st. mk xx qcb+k for some insane damage (and off just a ground combo). Cyclops’ assist is okay. Nothing great. The others listed before in the thread are useful because they can be used at the same as the player is attacking the opponent and are multiple hits, so there’s greater chance for damage/combo output. Cyclops’ assist is mostly airbourne and if he hits the opponent he pushes them up and away, instead of locking them down on the ground like the other assists.
If you do nothing, a BH player has a chance to chip you or confuse you with run away air hp (the pigs can hit you from behind). For example, in close, jump back, perform air hp, then land, super jump backwards. The pigs will do a wave like motion, first going behind the opponent, then coming back to you. If the opponent tracks you, they’ll get smacked from behind. BH’s lk is surprisingly good, and a good poke too, AND it can be followed up into his launcher (st. mp). His air combo sucks, sure, but with BH any damage you can get you take it. Usually though you’ll be using mk to stuff everything with BH. In retrospect you want the opponent coming after you, jumping on you, so you can stuff them with cr. mk and the like.
Lockdown in MSH isn’t a big deal because of the push block. If you’re in the corner getting constantly attacked, you can just push block and then super jump the shit out of there.
And I don’t gauge this on kaillera online play. I’m talking about at the arcade with other serious players.
Hey, i was just wondering what the differences were between arcade vs. Saturn versions of MSHvSF. i mean, i don’t have any access to an arcade, but would still like to know if i’m playing on a complete piece of trash, or if it’s pretty darn close.
i don’t really care about cosmetic (color pallete changes, name changes) differences, but actual gameplay differences (combos don’t work, bugs, etc…).
Dan and Charlie are pretty bad in this game yeah - and it’s already been mentioned why. I’d say Sakura is either above Chun or around the same. You can definitely win with Chun and Sak, in fact Sak isn’t horrible at all, she’s workable. Chun needs to get in really close to do any damage, which really hurts against characters like BH and Sim - Bison and Shuma are pretty nasty against her too. Sak like always has her normals which are pretty good/reliable. Combos are decent.
