Honestly man. After watching SF Assassins fist and a couple of other really good shorts I think having a decent amount of money and still putting out something soooo lackluster is annoying. I mean I wish when it came to films like these actually focus on the subject matter at hand, which is a super dysfunctional family, and branch off of that.
Itâs always like that. Remember that Hollywood crap they made and called it a Dragonlance movie with Kiefer Sutherland? That was crap compared to the live action Dragonlance fan films. That guy that plays Raistlin is exactly how I pictured Raistlin to be:
I always swore that if I won the lottery I would spank millions to give that bastard Yen acting classes, hes the fucking George Clooney of the MA world I swear to god.
If you are looking for more than MJW then you will be hard pressed, especially if it is modern. There are some good older films with the late Jim Kelly that you may like. Here is a short list of films I think are worth checking out.
undisputed 1-3 (2 is MJW and Adkins)
Never Back Down 2 (mainly for Machida making a cameo, lol)
Blood and Bone
Non MJW
The Protector 2 (Tom Yum Goong 2) - Rza is the villain and Marresse Crump is the main antagonist.
Kiltro (Marko Zaror)
Actually anything with Crump is worth watching. That dude is legit and as far as black martial artists go, he could be the future in films.
There are a few short films that I have been interested in that seem to have some black martial artists in them.
You should look for films with these guys in them:
Maresse Crump
MJW
Lateef Crowder (He usually plays a supporting roll of sorts).
I will have to do some more digging though, because Snipes hasnât done anything in ages and I really canât think of too many folks unless you look at Joey Ansah (green street 3, SF Assassins Fist).
But check out this scene with Crump vs Jaa. I think Crump showed that he is the future with fight choreography. Iâd love to see him in the next Raid movie.
But this film that is âsupposedlyâ coming out soon is what really has me hype for Crumpâs future.
