Okay sorry for the semi long post. I just wanted you guys’ opinions on something:
So for a while now, me and my wife have been talking about opening up a shop. For me it would be a video game/cult movie store, for her she wants to open a book store. So what I have been thinking of doing is possibly opening up a bit of both. The store will sell video games (collectable and imports) but will mainly focus on movies (more specifically martial arts and cult cinema). Obviously this will not actually be put into fruition for a while, but its been something I have been thinking about for a while. But now, I feel like I really need to educate myself with the martial arts movies, and granted I have some decent knowledge regarding martial arts movies, I feel that I am lacking in certain areas (Kung Fu movies).
So my question for you all are what are the absolute must haves when it comes to these specific genres.
Kung Fu
Wire Fu (my least favorite)
Ninja Movies
Samurai
Notable Directors and Studios
Those are the genres I can think of right now, but I am just open to all the info that you all have to offer. A long time ago in college I did a presentation on the evolution of martial arts films (I used OG Drunken Master, Kung Fu Hustle and Ong Bak 1). I know that is my love and passion, so why not try to get something going?
@DJ Hyper Kid you need to wiki up some Golden Harvest, these niggas literally made decent kung fu movies a thing. These guys launched Bruce Lee/Jacky Chan they made the whole Hong Kong Cinema a thing for millions of non chinese guys. They also cover all your list except for Samurai.
Anyways, just watched Raid 2. Lil underwhelmed tbh, it has some incredible fight scenes like the prison yard mud wrestling brawl to some really shitty donnie yen type fail choreography like the warehouse fight just before the finale. Story was kinda all over the place too. Enjoyable watch but for me its a 1 time deal, just didnt have as much an impact on me as the first one did. Id give it a generous 7/10
