Well, seeing as how a lot more “offensive characters” have been added to the roster (Ibuki, Cody, Dudley), ultras being toned down more so they aren’t instant round finishers and don’t leave characters with shit ultras at such a huge disadvantage, and level 2 focus counting more to the scaling so you still don’t eat retarded damage after a crumple (I think), and with you deciding to pick up a character that isn’t considered the “new dan” or “god of the shit tier”, I don’t see how your SSFIV experience could be as bad as your experience with SF4. Happy thoughts.
Heres hoping I was once very very addicted to Alpha 3 so I may find myself heading the Cody or Guy route… I know Im only kidding myself about not buying SSFIV… no doubt Ill be there launch day looking through my Dojo edition facepalm
Mega were just venting =). I know i can always change to a new main but most of us prefer a certain character mainly because of the way he looks and how it suits our playing style. Just drives us crazy when we see the difference in “power” or however youd like to call it. You should know what i mean tho considering you play Guile.
lol, already happened partially. I haven’t played HDR in months, since GGPO, has better connections.
If fei uses U2 and no one is around to stick out an attack for it, does fei still dance around stupidly?
not dance but yeah, he just stands there sadly enough
whilst saying come at me from any direction you want.
Here’s the new dialogue you can get used to in SSF4:
“Come at me from any direction you like!”
“Tiger knee!”
windshield breaking noise
“I LLLLOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSTTTT!!!”
“They call me the king for a reason.”
Bruce Lee is probably rolling over in his grave at the almighty ultra counter they gave Fei Long.
It may do really heavy damage compared to the other ultras though, Cammy’s counter ultra seems to hurt like hell, and Makoto didn’t have a lot of life so who knows. I don’t think I’ve seen a vid where Fei has done counter ultra without killing the opponent so I don’t know it’s damage. Guy looks so fun to play though, Fei’s gonna have to make me like him again in super. Also sorry about slipping that 350 damage combo earlier I was thinking of jumping in roundhouse to fierce to EX flame.
Quick edit: Also think how counter ultra is going to make rekkas safer. You space them right and people risk throwing out a limb off that second rekka. I dunno I’m honestly looking forward to giving it a whirl, it’s a whole different game, would be hilarious if counter ultras were game breakers in the right hands lol. (yes I know it doesn’t seem that way)
After eating a few tiger knees, blanka balls, tatsus and other armour breaking moves as well as throws, you’ll come to your senses lol.
Not to mention they might whiff a few normals out of range to bait it out.
What’s worse is in the cammy vs sim video, after whiffing cammy U2, sim had enough time to do a yoga tower, cancel into jump, fall halfway back DOWN and then activate his U2. I thnk cammy had just barely recovered as it connected, and I’m unsure if sim’s U2 is blockable or a grab.
Yea Fei is probably similiar. From what I seen, both counter Ultras do big damage but the recovery seems slow.
I guess they wanted the high risk/high reward for the counter ultras.
Still though, I wish the consulted other fighting gamers before adding counter ultras.
I mean I rather they both have a grab ultra then this.
Fei needs it badly as his damage is quite low compared to other characters.
At least cammy can FADC backdash to Ultra 1 and that does decent damage compared to Fei’s.
There is a lot about SF4 I don’t like, infact I’d much rather put down for HDR,FFS,KOFO2UM and 3s then SF4 anyday of the week but due to its immense popularity I have no choice but to play SF4. As for fei, he is practically dan in SSF4 it seems so at the very least we have a amusing joke character.
Sad thing is, that’s how it is for many fighting games, where it favors more defensive than offensive, if you dodge, defend properly and sit back and whiff punish you usually be well off.
If you think sf4 is bad in that regard you should see tekken in its current state where playing aggressive poking style is high risk, little reward (a d+4 - a generic low kick was even considered risky despite the speed, you risk losing 50%+ HP from a random hopkick or a low parry to do a pixel of damage). Turtle players are more rewarded where they just sit back, sidestep, backdash for a whiff then throw a launcher followed with an obscene juggle for 50%+HP more with walls and afterwards you’d be in a compromising position being cornered in a wall with wall shenanigans.
Unfortunately for SF4 its too late to do anything about that, the engine design will be similar in SSF4 with reversals having armour break properties as well as ultras in play which encourages turtling and waiting for opportunities to use the ultra, etc.
Oh come on.
I know it’s cool to hate on Fei in this thread and stuff, but let’s keep it at least somewhat realistic here.
^ Hey, with the buffs Dan is getting… you never know, lol
I thought it was pretty well known by now that Dan’s much, much better than in SF4. I think “secretly good” was the description used. I wouldn’t be surprised if he jumped off the bottom.
In exchange of being able to combo his ultra, he loses his ability to shut down projectile spam from his ultra 1, he’ll be easier to zone out now that you don’t have to worry about your fireballs being countered - in the same sense that chun li would lose her ability to counter fireballs with her ultra 1 for selecting ultra 2, looking at some previous dan matches (I don’t main dan), seems dan has a hard time getting in on the offensive against those who can zone well.
Makes him more versatile though since there will be situations where different ultras will be ideal for different matchups in the sense that chun li would have to an extent like ultra 1 would be used vs blanka, ryu, etc.
So… i take it that capcom failed with fei in ssf4?
You bet they did.
