The "Make Fei Long competitive" thread

ive been using that string for a while, idk maybe if i delay crmp for a sce? i usually hit it so tight that theyre mashes dont come out. im looking for something that blocks mash dp as well.

What about far st.hp? I haven’t dabbled that much in IV fei, but that was a godly poke in ST. Is it still worthwhile?

not bad, but his hand dosent stick out as far away from his legs as it did in st, so you can get poked low pretty easy. but maybe if i try it like after 3 blocked lights and take a small step back. worth a shot, but i need something to deter jab mashing/sloppy OS

st.HP is nowhere near as good as it was in ST.

In fact all of his pokes are inferior to their ST counterparts.

In fact everything about him is inferior to his ST counterpart. Except his j.HK. That’s pretty good.

Nothing will beat his orginal j.hk, the CW before the CW.

Well maybe to balance U2, they gave him you know top tier stuff. :lol: but it’s fei, that’s as likely as me waking up a billionaire.

I’ll laugh my ass off if after all this I counter ultra a fireball and it sucks them into the animation…

Counter Ultra seems like it’ll be good vs Sim/Seth arms.

And has anybody found out if Tenshin really combos into Ultra 1? Makoto can do it, don’t see why the fuck Fei shouldn’t be able to.

Fei’s jumping neutrel HK is pretty damn good I’ll admit, but aside from that nothing really stands as being a improvment over his original self. Nearly every aspect of fei has been vanquished to a mere fraction of his former glory, it doesn’t even really feel like fei to be honest. Anyhow I was thinking about fei’s potential standing in the tiers in SSF4, and I predict he will hover inbetween the gen and guile region just based off everything reported so far.

I meant his j.HK, not his neutral j.HK – though that’s pretty good too. I like the hitbox at the back for Balrog duty.

I honestly think he’ll be bottom 5 in Super, if not bottom 3. And I hate myself, but not that much.

I dread to see the matchups, he’s going to have more matchups that aren’t in his favor with these new characters, ibuki will be potentially irritating to try get to since she can super jump off nearly all her normals and zone you out with kunais and dudley is just a straight out better close combat character than fei, same with makoto.

I don’t think SSF4 will have bottom tiers, I think gen,guile,el and fei will all be compressed into a single low tier with fei being at the peak of it seeing as those characters still suck from what I hear.

Hmm for mashed jabs either just delay your strings slightly or depending on the jab if you’re kinda far away you can overhead them sometimes. DP if you have meter or if you’re sure they’re gonna mash. It is annoying though, but delays are really the only way to do it. But then you gotta worry about DPs… ahh the SF4 mind games.

And yes… in super turbo 4 he’ll definitely have eye lasers, I’m sure of it.

But they’ll only hit once, and can be focus absorbed, and the eye lazorz have a 15 frame start up time, and can’t be combo’d into. and they do less damage than your super.

Also I don’t think fei will be that bad. I think he’s mid tier now and might move up to upper mid if he stays the same or higher if he gets more. He’s nto a bad character and his matchups that gave him trouble got a little easier. Not sure how things will be vs the new guys though. t.Hawk probably rapes his ass.

Currently, he is at the top of the low tiers so he stands as the best" worst character" in SF4 but remember a lot of the characters in that tier will be getting buffed. Even with the top/high’s getting nerffed it will only be marginal to the degree that they are more tollerable but not to the degree where fei can excel past the match-up’s. The mid’s will all be remaining somewhat similar to the SF4 counterparts as well…outside with some notable improvments of course. Overall, fei will still be running into the same issues he had in SF4 and with no updates to help him he will just naturally retract downwards seeing as how most characters within his peer group will be getting improved.

Moves

Im just wondering if Fei Long would be any good in this one.
Seeing how Cammy is going to be terrible in a competitive fair manor instead of being cheap with safety moves, who knows.

  1. Chicken Wing
    Would it be as good as Chun Li’s single press kicks which apparently she has 2
    one being able to push back the opponent so you do not get suplexed and it has higher priority
    second being a linkable hard cross up
    Seeing how you go from back to forward up this move must go straight into ground attacks and have no overhead priority, makes perfect sense

  2. Super/Ultra
    Would they at least have him punch faster so no one can Focus out of it?
    Not to mention at the right range even if his ultra hits with the first it will miss the rest
    Then again… his ultra is going to lose over something as a Balrog punch so go figure

  3. Normals
    Would his strong low punch hit as if it is a sweep such as HDR?

  4. Grab
    I don’t like command grabs, but I guess it is fair seeing how Fei Longs command grab
    cannot link into combos and also does no damage
    which has the same motions as a dragon kick so it messes it up once in a while.


Counter Ultras would be neat if they had at least the same range as their Focus

    Used to play him back in SF2 when he was basically Ryu without fireballs.

Not to mention Dan is getting Buffed so hes basically Ryu now without a overhead punch and long range fireball

Might as well have a Dan pink outfit alt for Fei Long

Jump strong and stand roundhouse are leagues better than they were in ST.

Just 2 things… not to mention health is much larger…
What else is he going to do?

Most Fei Longs run around tapping light punches
I sorta just gave up on him in SF4

j.MP is good too, yeah. Disagree about st.HK though. Decent anti-air I guess but you’ve got FK for that. and f.HK is absolute trash.

Funny how we’re basically cataloguing his best moves and they’re all air moves. Perfect for a ground-based rushdown character!
