The "Make Fei Long competitive" thread

As some above poster stated their needs to be a damn reason for different strenght tenshin grabs, no point of using lk,mk, or hk if they all do the same thing. Also his ex rekkas should have armor properties, maybe absorb one hit, currently their is no reason to really burn meter for them and i don’t see anyone consistently or even viably using them to “punch” fireballs ridiculous idea by capcom.

My improvements are simple,

-Fix his frame advantages, hes at a disadvantage too much even on attacks that land.
-Give him a little damage buff from his attacks esp cw don’t really do squat for damage unless in a combo, which theres only really one combo for them.
-Change the f+hk to how it has always been or make the current come out alot faster.
-Allow his cr.mediums to rekka combo and allow rekkas to be FADC on first or second rekka
-Fix that awkward pause after dashing forward, that has screwed me up too many times to count.
-EX rekkas, as stated above and add an extra hit, should be a 4 hit combo, make them do something different.
-i’d love the old cw from SSHDR as an new move, rekka kicks QCF motion 3x just like rekkas

thats it really. Fei is suppose to emphasize Bruce Lee’s speed and strength persona, and i feel they could be improved he’s fast but not as fast as he should and his strength is somewhat lacking.

Yeah that actually went through my head doing a session with Ryu last night. A couple of the matches he was slightly in the lead and finished me off with shoryu into ultra and I was thinking "you know, ultras were supposed to be for come backs…but this is just helping him seal the deal.

It’d be a lot better with your idea, or if ultras were only available at extremely low health.

The problem with low life though is that it still does not address the problem that some people just have set-ups that are too good. Ryu practically forces you to fall into the set-up of jumping in > lp shroyu > ultra by virtue of his fireball (some characters have ways around it but not everyone), you can’t really focus absorb those all day and with the timer so slow, you are bound to make s few mistakes even jumping over them. So the only logical conclusion is to nerf the way ultras damage (since in general you don’t want to nerf a persons move set).

The only other way is to have counter ultras, an ultra people can do when they get hit with an ultra. When both players have ultras (meaning in all likelihood life is low or there has been skillful use of focus), it cancels the use of ultra in general.

i forgot to mention this buff, but it’s a huge one that doesnt make sense to me as to why they didnt put it. His standing lk from far, the one were he kind just sicks his leg out, HAS to be a low attack. I mean for god sakes that looks like one, and in real life is one, yet the charcter blocks it by raising they’re knees? NO

I tell you guys, winning with Fei Long feels so good b/c you really have no way to make a comeback like some other characters with useful ultras…it’s all about skills and mindgames and knowing matchups.

That’s how it’s always been in fighting games. Many characters have this. Some characters look silly with weak quick mid/high kicks.

But im gonna stick my neck out and say that it wouldnt hurt to buff it ever so slightly… (Wouldnt hurt ever so slightly… i repeat, slightly)

Command grab just needs more range. I like how it works but ehh…

I think there should be a quick short ranged one and they get slower but more ranged as the button presses go up. So the LK one you could just walk up and do but the HK one you’d use off of blocked normals.

Invincibility to throws would be nice too, or invincibility period on the EX version.

I’m really excited to see what they change with him. Just hoping I don’t hop on and find out something like he’s been nerfed or they didn’t change anything, might have to drop him for one of the awesome new characters.

didnt one of the makers say that they knew guile and fei not comboing into ultra was a problem? hopefully fei will get combo to ultra!

Really? Where / When did you hear that? If so, that’s great news.

Combo into ultra would buff Fei a huge amount just by that.

I don’t see too many problems with him. This is all.

Make the regular tenshin have as much as the ex.

Make the ultra activate on first punch and add damage to it. maybe 10% more. Since there arent many options to getting it in.

Add more advantage to the moves that involve him in ending in a rekka, as a bnb combo. So many 1 and 2 frame links :/.

Oicho and tornado throw are 3 times as fast as tenshin, by the time you bust out a tenshin, you’ll be flailing in the air.

What I would like to see with Fei’s ultra is maybe not so much have the animation start on the first hit or have it combo any differently, but rather a couple minor changes that I think would make keeping Fei’s ultra the way it is now better.

My first thought for Fei’s ultra is make the popup on juggle hits greater so that the 3 hit juggle lands every time. That alone would make the Spicy Wing > FADC > Chicken Wing > Ultra viable. As of now this only works on Honda for anything worth a damn since Honda takes 3 hits after the Chicken Wing.

Second thought, since the 2nd and 4th hits go into the animation, make those hits weak and make the 1st and 3rd hits do more damage, so that overall it does the same damage, but for the juggle the damage would be greater.

If those things happened, I’d be just fine with Fei’s ultra the way it is.

So wait you’re saying they should go to the trouble to change something and then we still don’t get the SWEET ULTRA?

Easy solution imo…first and 3rd hits ground the opponent on air hit like bison’s ultra.

BAM FIXED.

Fei WILL be getting a second ultra, let’s not forget. But with the ultra he has now I don’t think grounding the opponent makes much sense. There’s really nothing wrong with how it juggles now besides it only landing 2 hits most of the time, it just needs to do more damage as a juggle.

It’s no fun if it doesn’t look cool.

Even if each of those air hits on Fei’s ultra did 100 damage or something, it would still look super lame to see Fei just bounce a guy in the air with three weak punches.

Ochio and Tornado throw can’t be cancelled into from normal moves.

I really hope they get rid of the flame kick shortcut as well. I get flame kicks so often just trying to hold down back and do a MK. So frustrating when that costs me the round. Or how special moves take priority over focus so if I say…dash forward and try to hold back and then do a focus, I get a command grab. 2 button presses should take priority over single presses IMO.
