You only need to buy like 4 cards from BFZ anyways since nothing works with its horrible garbage mechanics there is no point in using anything outside the new walkers and maybe like some of the new spells. This is basically gonna be khans block constructed until the next set comes outā¦
Iām going to be playing four Shambling Vents in my Modern deck. Outside of that I might run four Zulaport Cutthroats in a deck with four Blood Artists at some stage for Modern. Iāll use Crumble To Dust in some decks.
The rest of the set there is stuff I will use in Standard for sure. I actually like a lot of the black and blue cards for Standard.
Modern commander legacy⦠Anything BUT standard⦠I hope wizards knows what they are doing because this is a very thin line they walk an if people get out of standard and the format slowly fades away it could be really really bad for the game⦠The work needed to get the ball rolling again would be painful. I hope a set like this is a one time thing.
There is a ton of synergy in the new set. Naya Allies, colourless, ingest/process, blue/black control, landfall. There are a heap of viable standard decks looking at the new cards.
Only with themselfs tho. These cards completely ignore everything out of khans and origins. Ingest??? What deck outside of a deck of mediocre edrazi cards is gonna want that?? UB control maybe the only deck that can bennefit from thw awaken mechanic. Where abzan may find a decent ally or two to replace fleecemane lion and make rhino better. Outside that the cards do not care about cards from outside this set⦠If allies will be strong enough to win a standard event with only its current suport that will be very sad on wizards part since there are so few of em available. Also makes deck building extremely lame just take all the good allies and go play⦠Gj you built a top tier deck, Chapin is proud of you!
Yea I can run a sub $20.00 deck that kills a mother fucker and his dreams with a Bonded Construct or pay 300$ to make a deck from the new set. Ya ill run some worthless janky red deck. At least my deck is put together and ready to go for week 1 while these dumb bitches have to scramble and pay a arm and a leg for new shit.
On a side note this is a decent article and I agree its a lot like professional Video Poker cause you profit but over a longer time and you will have more losing days than winning days but when you win its big. I think if you have a solid revolving good bankroll I would buy a few cases of this set.
The set has synergy with itself, like it should, itās not the 4th block of Tarkir, itās a new thing. There are plenty of cards from the set that will fit into older decks particularly stuff like Jeskai and Esper control. There are older cards that will fit into new decks like Collected Company with allies. Have you even looked at the cards or are you just talking shit?
Mediocre Eldrazi? Ruination Guide is 3/2 for 3 with an anthem on it for other colourless creatures like Eldrazi but also UR artifacts. Vile Aggregate is 3 mana and itās */5 with itās power equal to creatures you control with trample and ingest. That is absolutely insane, it would be ridiculously broken except for the stipulation that itās power is only equal to colourless creatures but what else do you have? Scions that can be generated en-masse and from older sets⦠thopters, thopters also having synergy with Ruination Guide.
Scions/colorless ramp can bring out Ugin, Ghostfire Blade with Eldrazi, Zulaport with Exploit, Sword of the Animist with Landfall⦠the list goes on and on. There are a ton of viable archetypes within the new set, and if your argument is that old cards are inherently better and/or invalidated thatās just not true either. There are new cards that fit into old decks and vice versa.
(Dust Stalker is 2BR, @Pertho. Also, I chuckled at people apparently already calling it āVoidbergā. Either way, itās still one of the better cards from the set, though ironically you may not want to use it with other colorless cards so as to abuse the recall due to how limited all the removal currently in this set and soon to be Standard as a whole.)
The more I think about Ingest, the more I realize itās not even really necessary to use the un-keyworded āProcessā ability some Eldrazi have since I realized only yesterday that due to āProcessā already being to target cards that were exiled (face-up) for other reasons, this means that āProcessā can also trigger off all of White cards like Silkwrap, Suspension Field, and the new Quarantine Field and Stasis Snare that āholdā things in Exile. Maybe thatās why they didnāt reprint Admonition Angel. Even if thatās so, it still makes the fact that they didnāt give us any White Eldrazi more annoying if anything.
Regardless, as weak as Ingest is, Iād rather have it than āhurr durrā Annihilator returning. Iāll be more than glad if that never ever comes back.
Fine. Gaze upon my janky Standard deck of around $40 to $50, ye Magic player, and despair:
// Main
4 Zulaport Cutthroat
4 Serene Steward
4 Kalastria Healer
4 Bloodbond Vampire
4 Dranaās Emissary
3 Utter End
3 March from the Tomb
3 Palace Siege
3 Reave Soul
3 Harsh Sustenance
3 Damnable Pact
// Lands
4 Scoured Barrens
3 Caves of Koilos
4 Shambling Vent
3 Mortuary Mire
5 Swamp
4 Plains
Even ignoring the āquestionableā (read: non-fetch, non-dual) lands and the lack of Gideon (and the fact that I intentionally have 61 cards), Stasis Snare should maybe be main board over Harsh Sustenance and something like Runious Path or even Crux of Fate should replace it in the sideboard or something. Shrug. It was funny to realize how much of a hit Ultimate Price is taken when Ultimate Price is one of the relatively few Instant removal spells that gets to stick around.
At least I think the sideboard is decent enough for what already exists, Arashin Cleric is for RDW, Duress is for Control (though maybe it should be Trangress the Mind), Erase and Orbs of Warding are for Sphinxās Tutelage (which does indeed target you) and Hallowed Midnight Moonlight is for both Rally the Ancestors and the various Eldrazi decks that are doubtless going to try to use See the Unwritten to cheat the new Ulamog and heavier Eldrazi into play; it also works on the stupidity of Hangarback Walker, though Stasis Snare and Utter End also work on that thing.
Meh. Not like Iām going to actually to use this deck anyway due to current lack of funds.
Man, the price of those Expeditions lands is predictably disgusting. Otherwise, this article is interesting enough even if I canāt help but think itās actually fueling speculation, which is already a problem.
Either way, the most surprising thing from this article is the guide writer implying that he predicts that Gideon may tank to $10 eventually. One can only hope, really.
Why do you intentionally have 61? You should really get it down to 60 lol. Iād drop a Serene Steward probably. You only really need two of those in the deck as theyāre low priority to drop turn 2 over the other two drops.
Palace Siege is nice with this.
Utter End is probably more of a sideboard card, itās complete removal and with some stuff thatās good but itās expensive to sit in your hand against some decks. Iād really consider a sweeper mainboard as well especially because you donāt actually mind killing your own creatures if it will end the game with Cutthroats and you have March from the Tombs. Iād recommend Languish but if really big stuff is a problem or you see a lot of Rhino/Equipment you might be better with End Hostilities.
As youāre not doing anything turn one Iād consider Duress. Duress is one of the better black spells ever printed and is still legal for a while and highly available.
Damnable Pact is fine as you have life to use but remember itās a 5 cast spell or youāre better with Read the Bones. You might want to just use Read the Bones.
You may also want to get the number of lands by a couple. With what youāve got you should manage the three drop, not the five cost and probably not the four cost on turn four that you want to get down as soon as possible if you intend to use it as a big beatstick.
4 Dranaās Emissary
2 Ruinous Path
3 Read the Bones
4 CMC
4 Bloodbond Vampire
2 Languish
5 CMC
2 March from the Tomb
2 Palace Siege
25 land
Slightly less janky and fits on curve better while doing the same thing. Will need playtesting. Sideboard specifically against what you see post rotation and make sure it fits the curve and doesnāt negatively impact your strategy. Seems like a decent start anyhow.
