Problem is its a 50/50 game in the corner now, If you try to stop what Bison will do next he can just bait you and react on whiff, it may not be as bad but the risk is still there only this time for both character,
Its far from even, Guy can just mindlessly do demonflip mix ups to Bison from full screen and there is nothing they can do about it but to guess, but both scenarios from demonflips are in guys favor. Normal department guy wins easy, Bison may outpoke, but guy can just spam slides all day and they will win all of Bisons normals easy. What a stupid character.
You must fight some really inexperienced Bison players. Cr HP will destroy his elbow drop, so Fullscreen Bushin flip “Mixups” are not even possible let alone Bushin flip doesn’t really lead to a mix up at all any crouching normal will defeat his 1 frame grab loop since elbow will most likely whiff and Guy is open for any punish. Guy’s slide loses to Bison’s scissorkicks. You won’t even trade you’ll be completely beaten out, So Cr HK is a risk especially if you are trying from max range. Guy is not a stupid character in this matchup. Its even at best, it used to be in Bison’s favor.
New combo that works on Bison:
cr.LK, cr.LP, st.HP >
You must be very close to him for it to work, though. The string only works while Bison is crouching.
Is that him standing or crouching or both? You’ll want to identify that.
Bison worst match up? Dont now about you guys but bison feels bad match up for my guy,
It’s not his worst match up, It used to be one of his harder matchups back in Super but as of AE its basically even and down to the player more evenly since Guy isn’t basically a deadman when thrown into the corner anymore. It’s basically down to who uses their fundamentals and capitalize on every situation efficiently.
Why would he die in the courner, he has like a million different ways to escape and Bison cant really poke Guy because of his superior normals, slides and the fact that Guy can punish everything including throws with EX-tatsu makes this a bad match up
Not the worst but the 2nd after Gief for sure
Every way Guy can escape from the corner is a risk it may be easier for Guy, but Bison has options to stop Guy especially if all he does is sits there baiting you to do something, and only a few of Guy’s normals will counter against Bisons, Bison also has longer range on most of his normals, Guy mostly beats them for a whiff punish, EX tatsu can be baited and you shouldn’t risk it to beat a throw, you can always crouch tech. Why waste meter for a risk that could be used heavily against you, if Bison has an Ultra stocked, and you get baited, that’s a free Ultra. Also for no meter but an option to beat throws is Lk tatsu but still the risk for before is still at hand, you’ll catch a player in that maybe once or twice if you are lucky. Play a good Bison and I mean one that knows the match up of Guy, all the things you just mentioned won’t work, When I played my friend who plays Bison he never played a Guy player before, and I was always taking wins until he got match up experience to where it came to us going evenly then to him taking the majority. This was in Super and AE, and Bison can most definitely poke Guy and Slide is a useless poke in that match, Scissor Kicks beats it for free. That’s why you’ll notice no Guy player will use it in a match against Bison unless Bison breaks his charge or is advancing towards you, and if he blocks and you are in disadvantage thats a free combo into scissor kicks.
Totally agree with Blood, you gotta be out of your mind to think Guy has any advantage against Dictator. That match up is a nightmare for Guy.
Heavily in Bison’s favor. By far the worst match up for Guy in the game after Zangief, Rose and Chun (may even be worse than Chun).
Chun is harder in my opinion, footsie game against her is just like hiking through a series of catastrophic weather, she has an air throw, her air normals beat Guy’s (unless nj. HP makes a difference now), she has low profile move to just shit on almost all of your aerial approaches, which if the chun has a fast reaction and notices you won’t do elbow or aiming for a deep HK or mp she can just air throw you hell she can even throw you out of elbow, and then the mixup starts there… Chun vs Guy can get really stupid, and quite honestly very easily.
I’ve been pretty frustrated with this matchup so I tried Blooddrunk’s advice on anti-SK pressure in training mode. I found that at best you have 2 options and you have to guess what Bison will do after the first SK.
If Bison does:
-
Another SK - You do cr.mk. It will beat the SK out.
-
st.mk, cr.lk, or cr.mk - You do cr.lk at the very FIRST FRAME you’re out of block stun (else you get hit). You will earn a counter hit and can follow up. Here are some examples:
—a) cr.lk, st.mp, BSL
—b) cr.lk xx EX Hozanto -
Walk up or do nothing while within your cr.lk range - cr.lk xx Fierce Bunshin Flip. This gets you out of the corner but is risky.
There’s a catch. If Bison does a SK at max range (meaning Bison will be positioned right at the edge of the time bar, respective to the corner), you can’t do anything but block.
A thing I’ve picked up watching match vids was to bait SK at mid-range and punish with st.mp xx BSL. Kinda hard for me to react so I gotta look out for it.
You also forgot that you can take the ultimate risk with EX Run then doing stop or Run slide
Ah that was already covered up there. I was thinking more in terms of normals.
I really don’t think Bison is Guy’s worst match. If anything, I’d say that match is even in 2012, if not, MAYBE its 5.5-4.5 in Bison’s favor. Guy’s st. lp in this game stuffs all scissor kicks (though its difficult to do) and also counterhits ALL of Bison’s normals. Not only that, but as bad scissor kick pressure is for Guy, our pressure against Bison is even worse for him, because we can punish ALL of his reversals now, and whenever we punish him, we get a hard knockdown, he doesn’t. Couple that with the fact that Bison does shit damage and stun, and you’ve got yourself a decent situation to deal with. Yes, if you find yourself cornered against Bison, you must take a risk, but guess what? 1). If you find yourself in the corner against Bison, that means you fucked up. If you block more than 2-3 scissors and find yourself nearing the corner, find a way (usually a backdash or a far st. mp into fierce bushin flip) to get back to mid screen. Even if you are in the corner against him, you can block scissor kicks all day for very little chip, and by the time he decides to go for a throw, you should see your opening to get out. If you do find yourself in the corner against Bison early, relax, put on some jazz, and really focus on his tendencies after you block his scissor kicks. If you do this, you will know when to take a risk to get out, and what that risk should be (EX Run, cr. short/jab buffered with EX shoulder, forward jump, fierce bushin flip out of the corner, dash forward throw, wall dive, etc). I find that most of the time when I lose to Bison, its because I respect him too much. Without bar, he really can’t do much to keep you out. Yeah he can do jump back fierce or whatever if he thinks his reactions are godlike, and thats when you start elbow dropping early and run sliding him as he lands. And so what if he hits you with st. hk? That move does 70-80 damage in 2012, its worth risking a j. HK against. If you show him that you are godlike on the ground, and that you can counterhit his st. mk and st. hk (I reccommend st. jab buffered with ex shoulder, or cr. mp into run slide/ex shoulder), then you effectively claim that range, and all he can do is scissor kick, or slide (If he starts sliding at closer ranges then you really know he’s mentally fucked). Then again, Pedro has played against Shungoku Neurosis many times and I have not, so at that level, I’m sure its difficult to beat Bison no matter what char you play. Even though we have option selects to beat his wakeup options (usually mp shoulder, even though it doesn’t BEAT EX devils reverse/headstomp, you still recover in time to block), once you have Ultra 1, Bison is your number one bitch. Once you have U1, don’t option select his wakeup anymore, try to bait out an EX Psycho Crusher, as its easily punishable with U1 now in 2012. Even if he teleports away from you, get right back in his ass and force him to EX Psycho. This is especially important when you have Bison in the corner, because he can’t teleport out if you don’t option select. If he teleports behind you, bushin chain throw his bitchass back in the corner. Again, force him to EX Pyscho so you can block and punish with Ultra 1. If he tries to EX Devils Reverse in the corner, guess what? Ultra 1 beats that shit clean too, fuck you Bison. Or you can cr. mk if you don’t have it. U1 and cr. mk punish work against the headstomp followup as well, just make sure he doesn’t go behind you before you commit to one or the other. Just remember, as long as you losing the risk WON’T put you in the corner against Bison, don’t be afraid to throw out a delayed EX tatsu or a lk tatsu to make him stop mashing cr. tech. He really can’t hurt you that bad if you aren’t in the corner, so show him you’re not afraid of him and look for him to reversal or make a mistake. In terms of block strings, when Bison has no bar, or has bar (but no ultra), you can finish strings with lp/mp bushin flip to stay in, as his ex psycho will go right under your flip unless he delays it (thats when you mp bushin flip to dodge it). I would not recommend finishing strings with lp hozanto unless you are in the corner, as his cr. tech or an EX reversal will beat it most of the time. I hope this helps, I think with the proper mental approach (get in his ass and stay in there no matter what, make him fuck up or waste his bar to keep you out) and dedication to your ground game, M. Bison is no serious threat to Guy in 2012. I have a ft10 Godsgarden format set coming up against Kyoku, AZ’s best Bison player, I will let you all know how it goes, and will post a link as it will be streamed. Stay vigilant Ninjas
Gods that made me laugh. But that was a real treasure trove of advice there! Looking forward to that stream, Lumina1re!
So I tried testing that EX PC punish with U1 and I found that the minimum distance when you block is about s.mk from Dictator. Any closer and your U1 will be blocked. Also, the closer you get to that minimum range, the more you will need U1 to come out as a reversal.
But that EX Devil’s Reverse punish with U1 is golden. I just might change from U2 to U1 in this match up. Thanks for all the advice!
