You really can’t hate Max. He seems like a nice guy, has a passion for the games that he plays, and he knows how to get that paper. Sure, his guides may not be the most accurate thing on the web, but he does put work into it, and he’s gathered quite a following over time. If people want to toss money at him, they have that right.
You can go ahead and hate on DSP because of his modern day content and how he behaves, but you CANNOT take away the fact that he placed top 8 at EVO. How many people can honestly say that they placed Top 8 in anything, let alone, a competition as stacked as EVO? Go ahead and link the Mike Watson interview, but that doesn’t diminish that fact. There was an ST tournament. Players were told which version of ST was going to be played e.g wasn’t some last minute surprise. And, as expected, the best Japanese players ended up taking top 3 of the tournament with the characters they are known for.
The ST port was not so different that it was a completely different game. It’s still ST but with slight changes. Exactly what about the game made it so different that it stopped being ST? I just think that Valle was being a big baby about it by not joining. DSP wasn’t a professional but he played at a professional level. Is he an asshole at times? Absolutely. But he stilled was the highest placing American at ST EVO that year.

Right. He took it seriously even though he was one of the ones who was also UNFAMILIAR with that port. He took it seriously because he spent a few hours playing the ONE station of said port along with other participants in the tournament to know the exact nuances and changes of the game. It had nothing to do with the fact that regardless of the small changes to that port, the core was STILL Super Turbo and the strongest players won(The Japanese) while everyone else lost.
LTG is attacking Max because the latter is still relevant while he’s been a nobody ever since Viscant bent him over and did him in the “old country way” back in the Grudge Match.
