Consoles will still sell to a more niche group of gamers, I don’t think they’ll die until streaming takes over, and even then who knows. I’ll be honest, the ecosystem Sony has built with the PS4, PSVR, and Vita resold me on the console experience at a point when I was thinking about building a gaming PC.

As for mobile, people need to stop comparing mobile to console and even handhelds. They fulfill different aspects of gaming and aren’t meant to compete with each other imo.

This is honestly how the gaming ecosystem works in general. But due to how cut throat the console wars were in the 90’s it’s carried on throughout our lives.

Companies still purposely use the us vs them mentality to push hardware and software sales. Some not as much or some do it much more subtly. But it’s still there. Just in “friendlier ways” but a lot of fanboys and apologists eat that shit up and take it to extreme levels.

I go where the good games are. Doesn’t matter if console, handheld, or mobile. I have steam. I don’t own many games though, I think 12? Because I don’t really like PC gaming. I don’t think it’s bad by any mean, just outside of a few genres that prosper on Steam I have no real interest in PC Gaming.

Yeah, I pretty much think that.

I don’t like that I have to have the steam client on there to be able to play games I’ve bought. I mean, I get it, but I hate having to keep that updated too, or I did when I didn’t keep my computer hooked up to the internet, and it feels like an imposition to have to use that just to be able to play games I bought.

It’s funny that console makers push thr us vs them mentality when there are far fewer exclusives now than there have ever been. I’ll take a fun mobile game over some big shitty overproduced console game any day.

Console will always have a place among casual gamers. The average person who games a couple hours a week, isnt gonna invest in a gaming PC. Console is just right for them. Hell it was consoles that brought gaming to the masses and tapped into that casual market. Thus making gaming a legit industry

It will bring a smile to my face to watch how badly the Google gaming system crashes and burns. If it ends up being the Hindenberg of the gaming industry it deserves to be, that would restore my faith in things.

oh last night was it on Toonami— THAT episode of Dragonball Super where we have the grand finale showdown of Goku and crew (the greatest MvC2-style team-up I’ve seen in years; 17 as the incredible variable assist; the teamwork here was amazing) vs. Jiren,… there’s a couple of old Dragonball Z fans I know that I keep trying to sell “Super” on, and I’ve told them without giving the details away; this final battle was THE most epic shit I’ve had the pleasure of watching in the series…I really can’t get enough of it. I have the audio ripped on my ipod, and the clip of that fight saved on computer to watch over and over again whenever. Words can’t even do it justice, it’s something people should just see for themselves…the way the music so perfectly matches everything that’s happening on-screen just takes it to that next level. Unfortunately I happened to have another match of Gears 5 Horde going on at the time but I had it on in the background and was able to kinda see it once again…I’ll have to watch again on OnDemand later.

Re: Consoles

I think it’s a matter of when not if console gaming dies. As computer literacy rates go up and price of components go down there will be a gradual shift towards PC gaming rather than console. The company who has shielded itself best against that is Nintendo, but I suspect in 20 years they may be the only console gaming hardware company left.

I feel Nintendo is a Software gaming company that also happens to make deticated hardware for their software rather than a full blown Console manufacturer. Nintendo always march to the beat of their own drum. Like the Switch sits in this weird middle ground that they dont need to fully compete with Sony and Microsoft but they aren’t a Mobile alternative ether.

Maybe, but consoles take a lot of guesswork out of the equation. I’m computer literate, but I’ve spent countless hours trying to find solutions to issues with my music production rig in addition to gaming and that’s something I don’t miss with my PS4. Call me lazy, but I don’t have as much time for games now that I have a kid so the gaming I DO get in has to be pretty streamlined, and console definitely offers that.

I know, I did it last gen. But eventually it gets shut down. Rightfully. It was fun for 3 seconds.

Not to mention when your kid gets old enough to play videogames you probably don’t want them on your rig. I imagine it’d be way easier to get them a console dedicated to videogames.

No not really, Consoles used to be specially hardware made for gaming.
From the Magnavox Odyssey all the way up to the PS2, they are all specialty hardware for gaming.

It used to be you can’t built a console with off the shelf PC parts, they have their own specialized hardware do do various effects in hardware.

When the OG Xbox came around is when you see Consoles actually cross that line into PC hardware territory as the Xbox was built with off the shelf PC components.

I was not being serious, it was a joke.
I would not screw someone over SS like that.

Now if for some reason they actually asked for SF5, its on them.
