The LOST thread

Why on earth would you believe anything Ben says? He also said he was born on the island, but we know that was not the case. Why the HELL that would make you stop watching the show is beyond me and I am now wishing I had lumped you in with Scumbag because you’re just as ignorant.

@ Scumbag:

There’s actually been a lot of questions answered on the show. I really think that not watching S1 and S2 has hurt your understanding of LOST, simply because the show’s a lot more than just “what the people did today on the Island.” It’s more about things from their past that get dredged up and is eventually referenced and/or become plot points for later episodes.

As for questions that have already been answered:

  1. Why did the plane crash in the first place?
Because of the EMP pulse from the station where Desmond was supposed to push the button, but failed to do so when he tried to escape from the Island.

  2. What was “the hatch”?
It was one of a bunch of scientific facilities that The Dharma Initiative created in order to better understand the Island.

  3. What did the button and timer do?
It was meant to contain and regulate the EMP energy of the Island.

  4. Why could Locke walk again when he was a paraplegic?
Because the Island has healing properties (as it healed Rose), and Locke is destined to be special as the leader of the Others.

  5. Who are the “Others”?
A group of inhabitants who’ve lived on the Island for an extremely long time, led by a seemingly immortal Richard Alpert.

  6. Why did the Others always steal/focus on children?
Because they needed new recruits since pregnant women miscarried due to some weird Island vibe.

  7. Why can no one find the Island?
    Because the Island can move.

I mean, those are a bunch of questions I can think of off the top of my head–MAJOR questions from the 1st and 2nd seasons that have been pretty much answered by this point. So saying that “this show doesn’t answer anything” is a bit unfair.

Granted, there are still more questions. Like, why is Richard Alpert immortal. What the 4-toed statue is. What role Locke has yet to play. What the smoke monster is. The “incident” with the hostiles that Alvar Hanso mentioned in the orientation tape mentioned so long ago. Why some of the Oceanic 6 are in '77 when Sun and Locke and Ben aren’t.

But that’s just the nature of the show. It’s a sci-fi mystery.

Ok maybe I should have said Faraday? If the entire thing is just replaying for Ben and it’s just one big cycle then it loses it’s feel for me. Also your saying Ben knows Sayid and recognizes them when they first landed on the island, indicating Ben is the only one who actually knows WTF is going on. I just don’t think it would be interesting if it was a cycle, it would be just as stupid as if Jake wakes up from a coma at the end and it was all a dream.

Also I’m done with your elitist attitude. I came here to discuses the new episode, not to get ridiculed by you and your “facts” about the show. I’ll go elsewhere for my lost discussion from now on because you seem incapable of having a decent discussion.

Not all of that is… exactly true. Most of that was taken at face value.

The plane crashed because the plane had always crashed. The island wanted those people because they were already there and needed to be there again. Desmond was a tool by which to get them there and the EMP was the method by which it was explained.

“The hatch” is a Dharma Station called the Swan. It was designed to harness and/or controll the pocket of powerful electromagnetism that was found while the Dharma Initiative were digging.

The button didn’t regulate, per se, but it did prevent it from releasing all of it at once.

"The Others"aka, the holstiles are not the same people they always have been. many of the current members were once members of the Dharma initiative.

As far as their kidnapping of children goes, we can assume mothers want children or that even yes, they need new recruits.

The island doesn’t just move, but it always moving. I believe this is why it randomly just starts raining.

And as for you, if you don’t want facts, what is it that you want? Why would the show being a cycles be uninteresting? His name is JACK, not Jake. You’re, it’s spelled ‘you’re’. It’s a contraction. It means “You are”. It being a circle makes it interesting and begs the question “where does the circle end?”, since circles DON’T end. Faraday never said anything about it not being a circle. In fact, he embraced it.

I don’t think it was ever stated that he was the leader of the Others. He “controlled the Island.” This is my guess on what happened.

  1. Widmore, a young English soldier is recruited by Richard’s group along with a bunch of young talented people.

  2. After making a power grab, Richard ASKS him to leave.

  3. Widmore, with his natural intelligence, charisma, and knowledge from the island begins his corporate empire and works with many people to start the Dharma initiative.

  4. Widmore enters an agreement with Richard in order to stay on the island peacefully.

  5. Widmore breaks the truce and has the Dharma initiative attack the Others. The others are in bad shape because of this. That is why Richard (who is usually slick looking) is looking ragged when Ben meets him as a child. Richard and the Others are in hiding.

  6. Ben works with Richard for years in order to take back the island. Adult Ben has Dharma’s radio towers jammed and becomes the official leader of the island essentially “taking” the island from Widmore.

Thoughts?

It fits, very well thought out.

Okay so what the main storyline of the show now?
They got off and on the island, but whats the main story right now?

^the war that’s about to happen?

?There has to be more to the kids of the island than just new recruits.
?The island isn’t always on the move. It does stop from time to time.

The biggest question for me would be the origin of the power source! Atlantis? Alien?

Yeah i guess

Actually Widmore, himself stated he was the leader of the others in episode 7 when he met Locke in the hospital after Locke left the island. Widmore calls “the Others” his people and tells Locke they protected the island for over 3 decades until Benjamin fooled him into leaving the island.

He was lying.

Richard takes orders from Ben.

Richard gave orders to Widmore (when he was young). If Widmore controlled the Island, than I doubt it was with Richard’s blessings. Pretty sure that Widmore controlled Dharma and the Island until Ben gassed everyone and took it back.

Widmore may or may not be lying. It is Lost after all. Also just because we don’t see Widmore as the leader when Locke visits him in the past does not mean he can’t become the leader later on.

It doesn’t take a long time to become the leader of the Others, the island just seems to choose you. Locke, for example, switched from a outsider into their leader, all in a very short time period. Same could have happened to Widmore. Also after seeing how Ben treats Locke (sabotage, killing him, etc…) after he becomes their new leader, Widmore’s story seems quite possible.

Locke was destined to become their leader.

Richard was watching when Locke was born.
Richard talked to Locke when he was a child.
Richard tried to recruit Locke when he was in High School.
Richard helped Locke bypass Ben’s sabatoge attempts by giving him information on Locke’s dad’s relationship to Sawyer.

Locke as leader was 60 years in the making. I stand by my theory that Widmore was never the leader of the Others that we are referring to.

Here is another theory that interreelates. When people refer to “The Island” they refer to an invisible being or force. I think their are two invisible forces out there that are at war and giving misinformation.

In other words, their are two smoke monsters out there and they are working against each other.

Yeah I like that alot, makes sense.

That’s mainly because future Locke told Richard to check on him.

Only when he was born. After that, it was Richard making the decision. Even when Locke failed the test at 9 years old, Richard still wanted him when Locke got to high school. Locke was destined to be their leader, and it wasn’t because Locke talked to Richard for 10 minutes.

Another reason why I think their are two “mysterious island forces”

Richard Apert is one force. Michael Abadon is the other one. Both of them fighting for Locke’s attention. One has Widmore, the other has Ben. They have made too many references to opposites (light and dark, good and evil, etc. ) for this to be ignored.

You also have to remember that Widmore has been looking for the island for 20 years. If Widmore was a part of the Dharma Initiative he would have no reason to look for the island since he would already have people on it. The island was purged of the Dharma Initiative in the early to mid 90’s. Which means Widmore hasn’t been looking for the island for 20 years or he was never a part of the Dharma Initiative.

Ah, I didn’t think about that. I wasn’t sure if they had gone on record on when the “purge” occured though.

Didn’t you start off your first reply to me by calling me a “Nigga?”

Ya I think you did. Go try and cross six lanes of highway traffic please.

Go back to school? I’m saying I DONT want every single survivors to have their own personal stories. I’m saying they created TOO MANY STORIES IDIOT. Why else would I say too many characers is a negative thing.

The individual stories with Kate and Hurly were really stupid and those episodes alone are what ruined this season for me. Then there was the episode where they spent the whole time getting on the plane only for it to end as they hit the island and find Jin.

Whatever, fuck this season and you too. I dont really care what u say, this show is retarded.

dude, seriously, relax and go away. why are you fighting with someone on the internet?..about a show you dont even like? and its a rhetorical question, don’t bother anwering becuase I wont read it.
