jacob’s ladder doesn’t stay unsolved, nor does brazil really. they both do what you seem to accuse Lost of doing, entering a “fantasy” world without telling the audience until a reveal at the end. Ladder is a classic all around, but Lost was emphatically not trying to use the same construct.

Who built the temples and the giant statues and for what purpose?
What year was it when Jacob and his brother were born?
Were the numbers worth a damn?
Why did the water heal people?
How did the water make people evil afterward?
Was Hurley REALLY the only person to see ghosts or was every other occurrence the smoke monster?
If there was a atomic explosion that killed most of the Dharma Initiative who did Ben kill and how were any of them alive?
When Lock didn’t push the numbers in the hatch, did anything actually happen?
Why did the Dharma Initiative CONTINUE to drop food stuffs on the island, even after the island had been moved?
How was Jacob leaving the island?
How did Ben know that moving the island was possible if he has never actually talked to Jacob? Smoke monster ghosts?
Who was the old Bearded man we saw in Jacob’s cabin?
Why did Charles Widmore want to go back to the island? Really, there was no reason at all for him to go back.
How was John Locke miraculously healed when reaching the island with what we know about the island now?
What the hell was the point of Walt?
Why was smokey able to change forms?
How did smokey have Jacob’s brothers memories and form after the island light spit out the smoke monster and him corpse?

Yeah, you’re never going to have definitive answers to any of these.

that ending sucked. Everybody dies over time in the end…wtf kinda bullshit is that. Seems to me that the writers got in way over their head and just came up with any random shit. THey should have just pulled a 6th sense and said the whole thing was some kind of dream and they all just died in the first crash. Atleast that would have pissed everyone off like the Sopranos ending did.

People bashing the ending just don’t understand what the writers were going for.

First, they were not in purgatory, purgatory is where souls are sent to be punished. The place they were in was the exact opposite. It was basically a waiting room for them to reunite with the most important people in their lives before they move. The time they spent on the island was so important to them that even in death they couldn’t let it go. Before any of them were on the island they had nothing of value in any of their lives. But the island gave each of them a powerful bond that actually gave each of their lives meaning. In the end the flash sideways was meant to be closure for us as to where each character ended up after the final scene. It doesn’t take anything away from what transpired on the island, it only makes those events that much more meaningful.

The actual ending of the island was beautiful. The combination of every event that’s transpired since the crash gave Jack the resolve to ultimately save the island and the world even at the cost of his own life. Hugo was the perfect person to leave in charge of the island considering hes never done anything but try and help people since the series began. Ben regaining power as the number 2 after redeeming himself was a great end for his character. And now he has a leader that actually trusts and respects him unlike jacob did. Claire and kate get to go home to Aron. And Sawyer was finally able to leave the island he grew to hate.

Yes there are still mysteries about the island, but that is whats fun about lost. If we were given every little detail it would lose its mysterious appeal. But, This show was all about the characters, and this season tied up all their lose ends, and showed us the ultimate fate of the characters we’ve been watching for the past 6 years. All in all there was really no better way to end the series.

idk man, I think if the writers told us everything, it would come off lame as hell anyway, pure explanation always is (example: season 6). Lost for the first 5 seasons was so awesome due to the mystery surrounding everything to do with the island (also amazing storytelling), but i think people came into season 6 with expectations that were too high for any answer to satisfy, and unfortunately season 6 couldn’t live up (though the terrible writing in season 6 didn’t help shit much). Though there were a few plotholes and things that were never answered but should have been (like dharma food drops lol), I think the writers answered most everything that was necessary to be answered while still leaving some things up in the air to maintain the mystery about the island (like vincent). personally if they told me everything, i’d be done with the show and not look back, but i’m glad the finale completely satisfied my questions about lost and still kept me interested in the series itself

i watched it. the show pretty much ended up how I thought it would… a very simple premise with lots of fluff in between.

I was very entertained.

but my thoughts on the series as a whole:

I was drawn to the show for two aspects that held my interest:

the agenda of the dharma initiative

and the omnipotence of the others.

it sucks that like halfway thru the series both these things get thrown out the window… especially I thought the secret Dharma stuff was gonna come back in the Richard episode when they told him he was to be a slave under a dood named Hanso, but alas it was jus another piece of fluff.

the UK version of Lost is much better than the US version

At this point,it is pointless to even bother to show people who hate the ending,let alone hate the show, the true meaning of the ending and why it fitted the series.
I also find it hilarious how everyone wants to be babied [ when it comes to lost] and want EVERY SINGLE ONE of their questions answered.
I PERSONALLY thought the show was amazing and couldn’t have a better ending.

also…here’s another unanswered question. why didn’t jack get fried when he put the stone back in? Is he the same as desmond now…i don’t think so. What i do think is the writers got lazy and it showed with this season and the ending.

Locke knifed his ass. He just sat there laughing playing with the water, when he was supposed to be getting fried. then he walked out stumbled around abit and fell down and slowly died. Totally signs of dying because of being stabbed. Not floating out the otherside with and exploded head or a charred body.

Did you see him bleeding at all from the stab wound? obviously not very deep. The stab took him down a peg, and the energy after-effects finished him off. It’s like radiation poisoning, it keeps weakening you until you die.

Jack definately died from the stab wound, we saw what happened to Widmore’s scientist when he entered the artificial magnetic field
