The Literature Thread (Yes, some of us still reed)

hahaha, funny you mention harsh truth endings, just finished tortilla flat :frowning:

kinda heart warming though

I got the confidence to start picking up girls from reading mental health books.

The content completely changed my life, and I canā€™t believe how I used to live. I used to beā€¦so afraid all the time.

You needed books for that? My dick just kept screaming at me that it was too dry and I fixed that by high school.

Atlas shrugged now has a kickstarter campain to complete the trilogy. Who is hype for a 200 page monologue to be converted to film?

In the book it lasted half-hour. I hope itā€™s the same here.

One page of screenplay has around 55-60 lines, with about 30-40 characters/spaces per line of dialogue. And one page of screenplay (assuming that description and other non-dialogue text are minimal) amounts to about a minute on film.

So do the math. How many pages of screenplay do you think it would take to hold the Atlas Shrugged monologue?

Reading ā€œWe Real Cool: Black Men and Masculinityā€ by Bella Hooks. Wonderful book and while Iā€™m still debating some of the subject matter, it is still a great insight into an alternative opinion on why Black Males are in the state that we are in.

Sci-fi fans will hate me but I couldnā€™t finish the Forever War. I got bored. I will give it another go as everyone says its one of the best Sci-fi War books since Starship Troopers.

I am almost done with wheel of time. I think it would have been the greatest fantasy series ever if it didnā€™t have so much bloat in each book. If it was condensed down to 5 books it would be pretty exciting. Right now I am dredging through book 10. Each book has about 150 pages of content and 400+ pages of filler.

Isnā€™t her name bell hooks? (deliberate lower case)

my blog is over at unknownmeridian.tumblr.com, a lot of my writing is there (all of which is bad). In my sig is short piece I did based around fictional FG players in mid 00ā€™s Cali. Gonna rewrite the entire thing at some point now Iā€™m a lot better at writing, and actually live in the US.

You are correct. Thank you.

Half of Mount Rushmore. :coffee:

Chuck Wendigā€™s Double Dead is the best Zombie X Vampire book youā€™ve never read.

So, I was subbing at my old high school today and was showing off Sheol Must Fall to my 12th grade English teacher. Apparently the writer of Breaking Bad went to my school and made the mural thatā€™s in one of the hallways, so when she saw that I was now on my second published book, she put a good word in with the librarian. Pending a review from the library team, I may be having my first book signing real soon.

If you come to NY Iā€™ll buy a copy and meet up with you for a signing. Youā€™ll have to be up for some heavy drinking, though.

I just started reading The Game of Thones, so far so good.

Hipster.

@Psychoblue: Congrats! But, sorry the Vikings suck.

At least weā€™re not the Squealers right now

Found an online translation of The Life and Death of X, the autobiography of Taiji Sawada, original bass player for X Japan. Book certainly has a different tone now than when it was first published, considering Taiji took his own life about 2 years ago. Translation is still a work in progress and is being done out of order, still insightful regardless. First chapter is all about late guitarist Hideto ā€œhideā€ Matsumoto.

Itā€™s almost time for NaNo, but I might be jumping the gun early because Iā€™m about to explode with ideas and the mental dam is cracking. Dear GOD Iā€™ve missed this kind of inspiration.

Been getting heavy into Three Kingdoms again, so Iā€™m making that the setting of my story. Any other Dynasty Warriors/ROTK heads in here?

oh wow I wasnā€™t aware of that. too much tragedy associated with X Japan  sounds like a good read. decent translation?
