If you have a local Harbor Freight you can get a small digital scale for around $12.
Hmm, come to think of it I’m sure there’s a precision scale here at work I could use for a moment. I’ll bring it in to work along with the original shaft and do a comparison tomorrow.
Also, nearly 750 views on this thread in a matter of hours. Holy hell I wish the new emote system didn’t suck because I currently want that little guy that bows…about 20 of them.
I had my wallet out ready to buy one… then saw prototype.
This looks awesome, and if you take preorders put me on that list please!
I would love to have one of these for my next stick!
That quick disconnect looks great. I had the idea of doing something like that but been busy with other things.
Oh snap! or more of a click from what i saw in the video haha… Im definitely down to buying alot of these beauts to play around on once this is up for beta or final production… whatever comes first ;D lol Put me on the pre-order list too =D haha
I would rename the thread something more descriptive.
The Link. Quick release JLF Shaft for transport.
These shafts are a brilliant idea, and I have been advocating something like this for ages! Any possibility of getting these shafts anodized different colors for people who want a substitute for a shaft cover, I wonder?
You definitely deserve like 50 of them, this is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen.
I will be keeping track of this and will put in an order as soon as they’re available. So awesome.
That is quite awesome there buddy. No way to easily add a shaft cover, but that’s a very small thing there.
I can’t rename my own thread, I tried to this morning and it won’t let me. Apparently a mod has to do it? If that’s true, can any of the awesome TT mods do that for me? just use what rtdzign said because that’s a lot better than what I have.
Believe it or not that was a question I had as soon as I saw the first rough copy of this prototype. I was told that it’s definitely do-able if it’s made out of something other than steel (aluminum, etc.) but the question then turns to “How does that affect the the longevity and functionality?” … it’s worth a look for sure though. I may ask for a tiny sub-set run made of aluminum just to try it out…
I figured no shaft cover was not a big deal for what you get, and since you can keep the dust washer that really wasn’t a deal breaker.
Genius! why hasn’t anyone else thought of this?
Under $35 seems reasonsable. I had an idea about production…have you thought of contacting or setting up a meeting with Sanwa? maybe they can keep your production down and sell in the masses as their new protoype JLF? I would think large on this as i reckon this is top notch and will be very popular in a community like this, other thoughts on mass production on Sanwa’s side is their packaging on the JLF can be halfed because of your pull-a-part design. Believe it or not packaging costs are very expensive, if you can save production costs on a JLF stick that puts money back into Sanwas pocket nd into your
I also thought of a packaging idea especially to do when you take the shaft out to pack and take on tour. I noticed in your photos their is nothing covering the open hole and a potential issue might happen or dust might get in a slowly degrade the JLF internals after long use or traveling. I mean once you take the top half off its fully exposed. Have you thought of making a rubber insert to plug the hole with in transit? I would also definitely make a small case to house the following; SHAFT / BALL-TOP / RUBBER GROMMET. Like a pre-mouldered housing.
Someone also mentioned about fitting a LED through the shaft, isnt their a swivel housing that can be inserted into the shaft so the internal wire does not tangle or get damaged? Be great to see LED balltop in action.
Anyways mate i liked the idea and would like to see you do something big with it. Very interested in your further developments. Let me know if your going to post to Australia mate.
IMO, you should patent this for use in joysticks if you haven’t already. You have a winner on your hands as far as I’m concerned, and I really expect to see it heavily adopted.
I’ll definitely be purchasing a few of these once they become available.
Would love to see a cap/hole plug that fits into the bottom part of the link once the top part is removed, to protect the insides.
Hmm, I’m now wondering if the local scene here in the PH would appreciate something like this. Might place a bulk-ish order once this comes out.
Wait, so the dust washers used will need to be one of the ones with the hole that accomodates the shaft cover sized diameters, right? D:
I mean it’s not a real biggy I guess. But I’ll need to obtain some then I think.
i think it sits under the top half. But the shaft cover can probably be ditched.
Put me down for the alpha or beta or pre-orders! This is looking real sweet!
If you are worried about the hole, I think you can get a 24mm sanwa hole plug and break off one or both of the snap in tabs so you can easily remove it.
No shaft covers. The collar’s diameter is to large.
