The Leonhart Guide to Better Netplay

bump bump pump pump.

Hi! I’d just like to add non-tech tool to this excellent thread. Well, at least non-tech as it gets as far as networking configuration is concerned.

If you have no idea what ports, NAT, DMZ and all that other networking jazz is, but still want to make sure you have things set up correctly (PS3, Xbox 360 or whatever) Follow the router-specific guide at PortForward.com - Port Forwarding Guides Listed by Manufacturer and Model. Just find your make and model in the router list, choose the system you’re setting it up for, and follow the directions from there on out. Be aware that while each application is listed by specific game after you choose your router, ports aren’t game specific on consoles. For example, there is no listing for Xbox 360 KOF2002UM. That doesn’t matter, just choose any Xbox 360 game. As long as you have the platform correct, it’ll still forward the port(s) correctly.

Computer games however are port-specific. GGPO uses Incoming/Outgoing: 6000-6009 UDP, Outgoing: 7000 TCP. More GGPO specific networking information can also be found in the GGPO FAQ.

Jitter is the high and low of the latency. Your average is 48ms, so the extreme ends of that average were 55ms and 41ms. That’s decent and of no worry to you.

Packetloss is now many packets you sent that didn’t make it to it’s destination. Again, you have no worries because it’s 0%.

I did everything the OP said, and my Xbox now says that my “current network configuration may limit your online experience.”
