Finally beat this shit last night. Very satisfied, though I found the parts I disliked, the flying, sneaking around type shit were all from Wind Waker, a game I never beat.
The last song quest was also a bit of a drag in my opinion. Final Dungeon and Boss fight were great.
The Artbook hit japan recently and the time line according to translations has been released. OoT apparently split the timeline into 3.
I was trying to get an idea of how the third timeline made sense but I was having difficulty. I knew it made sense somehow though and someone on Gaf basically put the pieces together. My head hurts though…
I’m still reading through that thread though…I really want to read that timeline. That’s going to be really annoying if NoA decides that they don’t want to translate that and bring it over here.
You’re not the only one. I pushed through it 'cause I liked the story enough to suffer the waggle, but dammit, if this is the best waggle has to offer, I don’t want to see it return in games ever again. You have the choice between relaxing and being inaccurate as hell or feeling like a complete and total douche. The flail requirement’s fine for kids who enjoy that shit.
Just wait. If you had troubles with the eyeballs, you’re gonna throw your Wiimote in frustration when you get the game’s instrument. I’m amazed: they seemed to want to say “You thought the Spirit Flute was bad? Oh ho ho. You know NOTHING!”
Game was freaking awesome marred horribly by waggle.
I’m not going to buy SS for a while I’m barely 50% done with TP and don’t plan on coming back to it for awhile. How does SS stackup with others?
Tier list time!
1.OOT
2.Oracle of seasons/Ages
3.A Link to the Past
4.Phantom Hourglass
5.Majora’s Mask
6.Wind Waker
7.Minish Cap
8.LOZ
9.Link’s awakening
10.Twilight Princess
11.Zelda 2
12.Four Swords
I still put TP at the top because it’s more or less Ocarina could have been. That game has aged horribly. Every time I try to pick it up again, about an hour or so in, I think “…I could be playing TP. Why am I not playing TP?”
Putting them in numerical order is impossible, though (well, 'cept Spirit Tracks is bottom hands down).
I really don’t understand what it was that you were doing since I’ve been pretty much playing this game 100% on a couch…no standing up no having to sit up unless I was really getting into a boss fight. The Harp? Yeah I agree that could have been implemented far better than they did on that. Twilight Princess is nothing but waggle while this game isn’t like that at all.
All I know is I hit the harp tutorial, and I was there for a HALF HOUR trying to get past the braid. And another 15 minutes trying to match the ring. “FASTER!” “SLOWER!” “MORE BROADLY!” My arm was dead at this point. I screamed every time this came up again, and even though none of the required ones were more picky about it, I was still stuck on 'em for several minutes. And I know it’s not a problem with rhythm. Damn thing just didn’t like me not bringing it back to each position in the real world exactly. If I was slightly off stopping at the invisible point in space I started at, it’d reset on me.
Twilight Princess at least could be played on the Gamecube, and what little waggle exists in the Wii version made it no better than a button, which is honestly tolerable. I’m forced into waggle here, and it’s CRITICAL to the game to be able to do things right. I like the game a lot, but the whole time through I’m going “…why do they have all this fluff? They need to just give up on this motion control shit. It’s obvious they’re trying so hard to make this look good and failing hard.”
The idea of having controllable swings is nice, but the concept of a varied combat function doesn’t NEED motion control to succeed. Maybe THIS idea of varied combat would be far too difficult to do on a twin stick pad (though I can imagine it, it probably wouldn’t be nearly as intuitive). But there are other ways that’d be just as varied that would work fine on a normal twin stick pad. Add into the fact that unlike buttons and sticks, there’s always this possibility of a misread on the motions, and it always seems to be at a critical time. This is unnecessary frustration that really doesn’t get outweighed by the alternate control style.
I really wish Nintendo would just become a 3rd party developer/publisher…
Naw Zelda 1 is dope. It plays perfectly, great over world, great dungeons. Lots of secrets to find and a remixed world for a second play through. Game should be high on any list if you’re looking at it objectively.
And sorry Sonic still haven’t started SS yet. Gotta hook up my Wii still.
So do I. It’s harder and more action oriented with combat being a focus which is what i prefer myself but just looking at everything Zelda 1 offers…I just can’t place it low on a list about quality titles. It’s impossible, it offers too much content and plays too well.
It was ahead of its time. LttP basically used the same exact formula and did it infinitely better. Giving the original LoZ props of that magnitude is like saying Castlevania II was freakin’ awesome 'cause it predates SotN. At the end of the day, it really only felt as good as it did because back then, there was nothing like it. Games in its own series outshine it so hard it’s not even funny.
I’m gonna have to side with Radiant on this one. I went back to play Z1 just as recently as 3 months ago and had a good time with it, and that was only the 1st quest. Funny thing is when it comes to OoT I think it’s one of the worst Zeldas. Nothing will ever outdo Spirit Tracks, but when I played OoT I was so damned disappointed. Outside of the bosses the combat was lame. There were few things to fight that weren’t cannon fodder. Then there was the whole day night thing (what a horrible night to have a curse). Night time was nothing more than an annoyance as the enemies weren’t challenging, and they were just something to mindlessly slash at or avoid. Sure I COULD play that song that changed day to night every time, but again it’s just an annoyance. Also I felt that I didn’t really give a damn about the story at all. On the NES it’s expected that there wont be much character development and dialogue, but even Zelda 2 managed to make it feel like a large world, and they had just the right amount on LTTP. The problem with OoT is that when a game is in 3d you expect the world to be more lifelike. In this game there were what 6? main areas (which normally wouldn’t seem so bad), but the people felt like cardboard cutouts. Hyrule field was so lifeless. The castle town was “meh” etc. I actually chuckled when it came to the end of the game because I thought to myself why I should even give a fuck. It’s like making a movie about a dictator that comes to occupy the US and he takes over Huntsville Alabama. Using the “ultimate power” to take over a place as lame as Z64 Hyrule seems so disproportionate… and finally there was Navi. Seriously fuck Navi.
On the subject of Skyward Sword’s controls they were ass. I’m wondering if it has something to do with me having he original Wiimotes with the +, but if not they weren’t nearly responsive enough. I like the idea of having to do specific sword motions, but when I keep getting the wrong ones then it becomes an exercise in frustration. I would accept user error, but it was no fun being deliberate as I had to be to be 100% accurate.
