Skyward sword is a mess of terrible linear sections that has to be unlocked, janky sword mechanics and the only sidekick thats more annoying than Navi.
You know what is your guide in BOTW, Your Shekia Slate (basically a tablet with better apps than most smart phones). The Slate will never annoy you, does not talk, and with the right upgrades helps you find what ever you are looking for.
Skyward and BOTW are two very different games on multiple levels. While I enjoyed Skyward unlike most people, I can never see myself going back into the world. Meanwhile I still play BOTW and find new things in it all the time. They created a world you want to go back to time and again.
Oh yes because collecting 10 Luminous Stones in trade of one Diamond that repeatable is so terrible.
Or the NPC who buys 10 Diamonds for 50% more than any other merchant would ever offer.
And it’s never just random bull shit like bring be 10 X for no reason.
The quest take the form of something a normal person in that world actually needs.
Example “I am behind on my shopping can you bring me snails and butter so I can make Dinner” and when you are done you got some of their Dinner as a consumable item. And if you payed attention you also get a food recipe. Or bring supplies to one NPC so he can built a whole town, which doing so unlocks a whole bunch of shit, stores, secret stores, other quests, ect.
There are a few *grab me 5 crickets for the love of my life quests but i can still count those on my fingers. Not like ffxv where every single side quest is a fetch quest
Hey man, I had the same reservations at first before I started playing. But rest assured, this game has all the charm of the Zelda series and it doesn’t feel like a typical open world grind at all. If you’re a Zelda fan, I think you’re going love it.
That is one of the areas I hope they improve on in the next game. I’ve said it multiple times before, but I want more side quests similar to Majora Mask’s more story driven side quests. BOTW had a couple which you didn’t realize until later, however, none matched some of what MM had to offer.
You CAN grind the gathering quests in BOTW, but honestly - it’s more fun to just keep them in mind and come back to them when you naturally gather that stuff while exploring.
There are some exceptions, like every time you’re asked to gather wood. Five minutes of running around and swatting down trees, and you’re golden.
EDIT: And one bug-gathering quest in particular that gets you some very, very necessary armor. Doesn’t take long.
The ones giving armor pieces to complete a set were awesome, though. I’m still trying to figure out how to get the rubber helmet since I’ve had the chest piece forever…
There’s another that
Spoiler
Let’s you build up down and has two people get married in it. How was that not awesome?
The rubber helm is in a completely different area than the other two pieces. Annoyed the shit out of me as I spent a whole afternoon looking for that shit where I got the other two pieces.
Only hint I’ll give is that there is an area always covered in thunderstorms where it’s located.
Spoiler
The side quest in Kakariko that makes Paya cry stuck out to me as well.
[details=Spoiler]The Rubber helm comes from the quest Thunder Magnet at the Lakeside Stable
Go to Lakeside and talk to Cima to start the quest. The Reward is the Rubber helm.
