The Last of Us 2 Thread - This thread is full of spoilers, please don't click on it until you finish the game

Uhhhh… anyone knows who’s this?

Only context is “Feel her love” painted on the wall next to it.

Is it worth playing the first one to get a sense of how bad the second one is?

Uhhhh, I dunno. If you like the gameplay, yes, otherwise, might as well watch a condensed version with just the cutscenes.

You definitely should know the events of the first though, especially since the bond between the protags is a huge plot point across both games.

I don’t know what I am looking at.

You can always go on youtube and watch a full play-through with cinematics and all. About 6 hours. Not all in one sitting of course but, you can treat it like a 6-episode web series and watch in chunks. The best option if you don’t want to actually play through the first one.

Edit: And you absolutely NEED to have seen/played the first game, to understand whats going on in part 2. Many in-depth references to the first are made. Otherwise you really won’t know what the hell is going on.

Yes.

A woman?

Just wanna know if it’s a reference to a IRL thing or if it’s in-universe. There’s literally no context, Ellie doesn’t know either.

Maybe it’s one of those apocalyptic cults

Oh, ok, so it’s in-universe then. Thanks.

Again, no spoilers. Just rewatched the ending 25 minutes to the game again and remain shocked. Geez! It’s just so friggin’ sad and depressing. Just, WHY?! Did the makers of this game really hate these characters that much?

Yeah i know life is hard sometimes, it’s not fair, blah, blah, etc. I get it. I play games for an escape from harsh reality. Not to have it shoved in my face lol.

While we’re on this subject, why do happy people absolutely Adore Depressing music and movies? It’s like they need to experience depressing and somber content to balance out their happiness levels or some crap. Those are the types that will be loving this game the most.

Anyway, gotta go listen to some upbeat rock music now to wash away the Emo vibes of this game.

I never played the first game, i am just here to read the comments and hoping for something entertaining to happen in this thread.

This game had no chance to be good. The first one is shit too. All the dumbasses who use it as an example for how games are art and shit like that are not only fucking stupid, but do a disservice to the industry as a whole. Of course no one takes videogames seriously when a mediocre shooter with a bad B-movie plot gets so much praise. Just shows how low standards are for gaarmerz.

Now, make a sequel that doubles down on it’s boring gameplay and terrible story and you get this shit. Oh, and to make sure you have no chance of success, piss off as many fans of the last game as well.

Really, the problems with this game aren’t that there’s a trans chick in there or that the story is depressing. Even the “we don’t make FUN games” statement isn’t a problem. People read and watch a ton of depressing stuff to get a kick out of it. It’s still “for fun”, just not in the Doom, Smash, Mario way. The problems stem from how TERRIBLE it is executed… and that didn’t start with this game…

I’m a pretty happy person and generally avoid depressing shit. I also haven’t played the first game, didn’t seem my cup of tea.

This game sounds vindictive tho…

Preach brotha!

If all story-based games are that predictable and formulaic, fuck it, I’d rather play Fighting Games for the plot.

@Darc_Requiem

When you actually get to see the spoiler stuff, it hits different, right?

Based on what I’ve seen the game is terribly written. If you are going to “subvert expectations”, your writing needs to be on point. If you are writing is poor it just comes of as you doing things purely for shock value. Anyone take what expected and do the opposite, but to do so successfully you have to provide solid narrative reasons to support your story direction.

Got to the end of the second chapter.

The flashback was nice. But yeah, overall? That writing is atrocious.

Can someone explain to me how this game all came along again? Was it something about Anita influencing the director?

Among other things… yes.

Apparently among all the crunches, Sarkeesian influencing Druckmann, himself being a SJW hack of a writer, a lot of people leaving ND, and a toxic workplace, this… thing came into existence.

Or something like that.
