Man its like everyone freaking the fuck out over Aerith dying all over again.
The whole situation is make of lulz, and people need to separate themselves over the fiction that is the games story.
But obviously too many people took it too emotionally and are Kirking out.
Well I guess you know you created some memorable characters when they can cause this kind of reaction. With that said I agree with the vid. Joel dying i get that. But going out like a bitch the way he did? Trusting a stranger and gettin caught slippin like that? Weak.
And the ending. Not buying it. Don’t give me that revenge isn’t worth it bullshit after all the carnage and distruction leading up to it. Imagine God Of War 3, MW2, Mafia 3 etc ending like that. Bullshit.
Its extremely debatable if giving Ellie over would have accomplished anything. The way the situation is talked about shows a real lack of understanding in pretty basic medecine from the Fireflys.
But real world medicine logic doesn’t apply here, the way I see it. I mean, it’s a plague of mushroom zombies.
I was 100% with your statement a couple weeks ago, but talked to a buddy that pointed this out. A lot of people (me included) wanted to make excuses for Joel cause we just spent hours playing as him and grew to like him.
I’m guessing you never found the files near the end of the game that shows the fireflies had found and botchered other immune people and had nothing to show for it. Finding those makes Joel actions less selfish. Fuck turning Ellie into another lab rat.
Knowing that they are dealing with fungi looking for a vaccine was the wrong move as they are not dealing with a virus. How you identity the problem and go for the wrong solution? Fireflies are retards.
Yea and we know that mushroom fungus isn’t a virus so they where wrong from the jump. Literally barking up the wrong tree. Ellie would have been murdered and nothing would have been accomplished.
They make it pretty clear in The Last of Us 2 that the doctor is confident that Ellie is the one and is besides himself with excitment to have found her. I don’t think there is supposed be to be any ambiguity in part 2 that it would have worked.
1 puts that ambiguity there so unless 2 proves the Fireflies where right then it will always be there and make Joel’s choice a judgment call, not a selfish call. Someone feeling confident isnt the same as being right.
That only works if you ignore the ambiguity the first game gave the situation. It was never a sure thing that Ellie was the one. It was a shot in dark that present a glimmer of hope.
Abby’s dad was a fucking quack who regularly engaged in non-ethical medical practices. He admitted he would do the same thing Joel did if Abby was in Ellie’s position.
Ok, I’m on the Firefly are stupid train cause there is a note that says that they’ve failed several times and were quacks.
but you both quoted me, then used real world medical logic.
I doubt that naughty dog was trying to make a scientifically air tight story.
In the opening credits, they mention World Health Organization vaccination’s tests failing. Regardless of how you feel about the WHO, they are using this to say that the best scientist in the world were working on developing a vaccine and the tests failed.
In the fictional Earth that LoU takes place on, the brightest minds on the planet agreed that a vaccine was the best route for a cure.
Ok but you have no basis to say that other then it’s fiction and it’s easy for you to say it. Everything about the game is really grounded so there is no reason to assume medical knowledge and how viruses and fungus operate is different here other then it’s fiction and convenient to say so.
What do you have that shows that medecine is different in the world of TLOU then it is in reality since TLOU is highly based in reality? What do you have to say that they aren’t working with realistic medical information?
edit: the WHO and NIH (IRL) both have published information saying that there are no fungal infections that can be treated by a vaccine.
But they obviously have to know that it’s a fungus. ND just picked up the vaccine ball and ran with it.
Why would the WHO make a vaccine for a disease that intrinsically cannot be cured by a vaccine? You can’t start to develop a vaccine until you isolate the virus. So the WHO knows what is making people sick.
Honestly, if we really want to go down this road, you can say that it’s completely silly to think that a cure could be developed at all under the current situation.
You would need hundreds of people (at least) for clinical trials, which would take years, then the means of manufacturing and distributing the cure after that. In a post apocalyptic world, that wouldn’t work out.
I know this is kind of in retrospect but the WHO has completely punted Covid, so would it really be that surprising the WHO would punt this bullshit as well?
Yea agreed and all the more ammo to justify Joel’s decision to tell the Fireflys to fuck off.
I agree that it gives Joel more reason to get the hell out of dodge, but for them to fuck up so bad that they developed a vaccine they know would fail because it’s fundamentally the wrong way to administer a cure is completely bonkers.
That would be like you calling the fire department to put out a fire and they build a rocking chair instead.
But maybe ND has some nostradamus shit going on ten years ago and knew how clown shoes the WHO is
Yea I dunno, all I know is I just watched the WHO fuck up seriously in a real world situation so it’s not beyond the realm of possibility they would fuck up hard core in fiction.
