Hey guys, I’m using King on a side team and I’m having issues with AA’ing. I want to use his dp command throw, but no matter when I do it, it gets beaten. Is there a specific timing, or should I just stick to cr. fierce xx command throw/boot?
Use his P counter if you know they’ll press a button. Otherwise just cr.HP, spin or shoulder tackle depending on the range. AAing is one of King’s strong points.
Anyone else loving the Cr.HP button as much as I am? Beating cammy’s EX dive kicks all day.
Sorry about double posting but, I’ve been thinking on working on a 2013 King Oki/Mix-up thread for King for people new to King or just to keep set-ups written down. I was wondering if you guys think it’d be a good idea. This would cover almost every situation with a hard knockdown such as commonly used ones for RJB/RASC/Throws to the less commonly thought of Cr.Hk(chained or not), Leg Screw, Non-CH Shoulder Tackle.
Also I was wondering if anyone would want to help
Maybe if I’m not lazy I could turn it into a full guide since Jibbo isn’t going to be around for a while and his won’t be updated most likely.
YEa good idea, haven’t seen anyone play King decent really so if its not any trouble would anyone mind getting 1 or 2 matches…
Switch dp are you using? LP dp is the one to use for anti-air as it’s invisible to air attacks.
I’m using the jab version. But I’ve figured it out. I mainly stick to cr. fierce now since it works just as well and I have follow ups in case I get a CH.
Well, this is fun. I found out Guile’s Flash Kick/Somersault actually counts as a ground move and not an air one at the start. So if you plan on baiting him on wake up to do it, use the kick counter instead of the punch one.
Is Guile still considered airborne while doing it? Cause for some reason if he is considered crouching (Elena had some moves like this in 2012), then it could be launched.

Make sure you test all the different button strengths, including EX. I’m rusty on which does what, but for example I think Ryu SRK can be air countered except the mp and ex versions, which are grounded or vice versa or something silly.
okay so im really interested in King, but I have a few questions / concerns:
How the FUCK is this character supposed to play? Hes obviously not a grappler since he cant just tick > spd/command throw due to the standing / crouching stuff…he seems like a character thats extremely heavy on conditioning. What are my tools to open someone up / condition someone? I know he has a command overhead right? his f+mp ? what does this overhead lead to?
aside from this, it seems (to me at least) like he doesnt have great tag out options that will allow me to continue a combo…everything ends with either jag bomb, or reverse arm. Am I supposed to just omit the ender and tag cancel off a knee?
how are his matchups vs other grapplers (gief in particular) and how does he do vs sim / sagat / guile (heavy zoning characters).
I really really love this character but I just feel like he doesnt help my main in any practical way (Julia). Yes I know combofiend ran Julia / King in vanilla, but its really not that good of a team. He doesnt seem to help vs her difficult matchups and he doesnt really do a whole lot for her tag synergy wise…then again, I have very little clue how to actually use the character aside from his solo combos (sans overhead stuff -_- )
if anyone would help out id be appreciative. thanks yall
I feel that King is supposed to be played as a footsie character that goes into pressuring with mix-ups. F+mp x 2 is his best mix-up because it leads to tons of different options; overhead(f+mp)/low(cr. Lk)/normal throws/tick cmd grabs. I like to call him a pressure grappler because I use normal throw and EX command grabs a lot.
I actually do use his command grabs a lot it’s just tick throwing thow or a read. If I know they’re going to duck in the corner I just hit em with a tomahawk or I’ll mix it up with st.lk x2/ St.Lk, Tomahawk. This makes the person have to guess. It’s somewhat of a guess for you to but that’s the risk sometimes.
Tagging off of knee is pretty much what you have to do and it’s not that bad because it does some good damage.
King has tools to get around heavy zoning characters with Jaguar step. You just have to be patient and take risks when needed. Like vs sim sometimes though with his counters. I think Gief is the only grappler that will give King trouble and even then it’s not TOO bad.
Kind of what Shadow says. He’s much more of a fundamentals/basics character than most. You get a lot of damage from simple attacks (plus execution is simple) so focusing on playing cleanly and smart gets you a lot more than other folks. Gotta get in their heads for more aggressive play though and when you do, just getting a few throws will end the match quickly.
So, who do people feel are King’s worst match-ups?<div>I feel alisa is one of them.</div>
Anybody have any Pandora setups with King? I’ve gotten two knees -> Pandora to Cody -> super to connect like 2 out of 25 tries. Anyone have anything better?

I got the same as you but…<br><br>1) Two Knees -> Pandora to Dudley -> Super<br><br>Then I have…<br><br>2) Disgraceful Kick(Back + M.Kick [MUST BE COUNTER HIT]) -> Pandora to Dudley -> C.Mp -> EX MGB -> J.HK -> C.Mp -> Super.<br><br><br>the only one I have where King goes into Pandora is:<br><br>Dudley Combos -> EX MGB -> J.HK -> Pandora to King -> Super.<br><br><br>I only had time to do this in like 30 minutes. Im trying to figure out how Dudley can add more stun on the guy so I can go into Pandoraking’s loop.<br>
King’s Pandora strength was always that he could pressure you with the meter refilling a lot but now that he only has limited it’s hard to use pandora with him outside of combos into his super.<div><br></div><div>How are you liking Dud/King? I was thinking of running that as an alternate.</div><div><br></div><div>I’m not sure about rolento match-up because jab pressure is negated by counter and the fact that jabs were nerfed. However Rolento has really good cross-ups which is hard for King. What makes Ogre a hard match-up I’ve never a decent one. <span style=“font-family: ‘lucida grande’, ‘Lucida Sans Unicode’, tahoma, sans-serif; line-height: 1.7em;”>I’d say maybe Hwo is slightly in Hwo’s favor too.</span></div><div>I actually believe King deals really well with Law unlike some of the cast. </div>
King can beat Ogre if you’re not falling for his shenanigans. Pure footsies is a bit rougher but it’s not an impossible match. Rolento can be tough but him jumping around is somewhat bad for him, especially if he’s predictable with his air attacks because you can get counters if he doesn’t cross you up.

<br>yeah. I was thinking the same with Rolento. As for Ogre/Hworang MUs. All you haveto do with Hworang is EX Giant Swing him out of his Kick block stun BS. Learn the Hworang player’s tells and you can EX GS his ass to make him respect your gangsta. That’s why I dont have him as bad MU for King any more. all it takes is one EXGS and they’ll stop the RTSD crap. However its Different with Ogre. His High/low mix ups are too good for an immobile King player and a RTSD king player can get Ancient powered (the force field DP move) to death. His Snake Blade or hunter Hawk can destroy King in the Footies/spacing war so its no point wiffing out normals trying to bait him and never Sleep on him due to his Owl’s Hunt move (the one where he jumps off screen and comes down on your head). I know you can AA Leg screw the Owls hunt but Im going to test to see if you can Leg Screw ancient power… If you can then, I can feel better about this match up. I’ve played against DemonBry’s ogre several times and I feel powerless against ogre.<br><br>King Destroys law. If you dont know the MU. Law can have his way against King, but King can totally beat Law… badly. Also. Be wary of the new influx of Bryan players. They just love to use fierce punch to death on you. Just leg screw that BS. <br><br>As for Dudley/King?? Loving it dude. I hate to sound like a McDonalds commercial but I’m really liking the team. Just gotta play footies to get in with Dudley (point) and once in, Launch or tag out to have King in their face like, “Yea bitch. Im here now. Wha’cha gonna do now??”<br><br>I see Renic is playing the team now as well… <br><br>http://youtu.be/GSK_LaY0tfY<br>
