I know its still early in the game but I where do start if I want to learn King? What bnbs do you guys use? How do you set up for his command grabs?
For bnb’s, start by getting used to doing magic series into cr. hp xx EX Konvict kick. From here work on getting knees after EX Konvict, then finally try to do some links such as cr. lp > cr. mp xx into the special of your choice. When tagging him in, I go either for st. hp xx RJB/iSW, or knees into the same finisher. Knees take more getting used to, so practice them. you can start the knee earlier than you would think when tagging in.
As far as grab setups are concerned, there’s no hard and fast answer. You have to read and condition your opponent to reliably block high or low so you can use the appropriate grab. Having said that, stick to EX grabs to start and here are a couple ways to land them. Use EX Giant swing when your opponent jumps in with an attack. Do it very late so the attack passes through your invincible hitbox and you snatch them as they land thanks to forced recovery frames.
Also, once you have conditioned your opponent to block low after you jump in, start jumping in with an attack, then pause a split second then do EX Tomahawk. If your opponent blocks low on reaction they should eat the grab even if they poke crouching.
Hope that helps.
check out the mix up thread for to open how people are opening other up for big damage. also seen some really god posts in the combo thread
doesn’t ex giant swing always whiff on empty jumps? if you are countering an offensive jump in, use AA Counter to punish them. Doesn’t cost a bar, decent damage, and better positioning (they are right in front of you with counter, you throw them too far away to get a good set up with ex swing).
close standing mp works well for an anti air
cr. hp works really well as well in some situations
I have heard good things about ex running bomb, but just have not gotten around to using it (maybe not good use of meter?)
Thanks for the help.
Cancel low pokes into EX Shining Wizard (the low throw). Any poke with 15 frames of blockstun or less works for this. I haven’t come up with any good frametraps yet for just pokes, but you can probably do the same with links with 14 frames of blockstun and :lk: Shining Wizard once they’ve been conditioned not to attack. I’m not finding Links to be an integral part of King’s game; you can’t link into cr:hp: and that’s what he needs to start the Knees. Not much use in his CADC due to that either.
LEARN TO READ JUMP IN ATTACKS AS OPPOSED TO EMPTY JUMPS
I honestly think this is one of King’s most important skills. You have the ONLY anti-air counter in the game. Make opponents afraid to jump at you. Even if they want to do an attack, they’ll have to throw it out really late, and you can beat that with your cl:mp:. Hell, if you think it’s an empty jump, go straight into Knees before they hit the ground.
Your meter is there for EXing your throws for invincibility, EX Konvict Kick, Super, EX Konvict Kick, Cross Art, and EX Konvict Kick. You can also use it on an EX RASC if you think you can stuff a move, but it is only invincible on frame 3. Tag canceling off Knee juggles also works well, but beware of combo scaling.
Important combo to know: hit confirm however you like, chain into cr:hp: xx EX Konvict uf:mk:x3 :hp: xx :dp::hp:
Pretty much, I did state EXGS should be used on jump in attacks. Of course high counter is also valid, though there may be times when you want to use EXGS. For example to create distance so you can safely raw tag in a pertner in case King is getting low on health and needs some breathing room.
Anyone who tells ex running bomb is an anti air is not your friend.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I’m guessing its a glitch but I somehow manged to tag off kings hcf p…
Can’t replicate but will keep trying.
Couldn’t see any real follow up so i doubt its useful anyway.
like, you got giant swing and you tagged? or just raw tag? Do you remember with what button it was?
If it was fierce, maybe you accidentally slight pushed roundhouse along with it, activating the raw launcher.
This all happened in training mode. Dummy Kazuya, stand, auto block.
I pressed hcf+p (I can’t remember which strength sorry)
and I pressed tag mp+mk just to see if it would work.
It flashed like a tag should but King kept going, No cinematic.
Hwoarang ran in and I had control over him.
It was funny because I stood him right ontop of King and he looked left and right really fast as King swung Kazuya around.
I didn’t look for a follow up immediately because I thought “this must just be something King can do”, but now that I can’t do it again I’m sticking it firmly in glitch city.
[S]Now if only I can figure out how.[/S]
Edit:
Confirmed works!
I only got it using turbo atm, and even then its iffy. Must be super super tight.
Worked with hcf+lp, then held down mp+mk with turbo.
Edit 2:
Well I’m glad I’m not crazy, this does work.
There are no follow-ups though and it is therefore pretty damn useless.
Thankyou for your time
How do you get the cr. mk hp RJB after you get a counter hit with shoulder tackle? I always get a launcher.
then you are getting chain timing, not link timing on the juggle. remember, you can’t cancel chains into no ex specials, only links.
You don’t do the :hp:; you do a cr:mp: xx :dp::hp
2 hits, the normal then the special, no actual :hp: involved except in the command for the RJB
Do you guys use the shoulder as an anti air? Sounds risky but if they chain into more that 1 combo…
i was testing in it some casuals with my friends last night, any time it WOULD work I could have just AA countered, so stick with that
There may not be any direct follow ups but there is big potential for mixup follow ups. Same with Kings qcb+P tag. The animation is long enough that you can possibly get point character into a very favorable situation to act as a reset mixup or continued pressure.
Might not be worth a bar yet, but just for example you can tag on swing and if you can get used to where and when the opponent will land you could have ambiguous jump in, meaty overhead, charged free super etc…
Odd thing I noticed with the anti-air counter today; was trying to use it to stuff Vega’s cross up post-walljump slash thing, and it went right through. Not sure if my timing was off, but I tried it twice and no luck
Try charging qcb+P during footsies and keeping the CH charge for the Shoulder Tackle. If they jump it’s free 400+ damage for the AA, if they whiff a poke, b+MK for a full combo. King is scary as hell with a charge.
Sorry, what is this 400 damage AA that you mentioned? Im not familiar with it i guess.
A thought; has anyone used EX RASC as an anti-air? It’s invincible from frame 3, hits airborne, does solid damage
