The King Thread

Ground counter and shoulder charge as CSword mentioned, and alpha counter are ways to deal with Rolento.

Rolento’s like to spam st.lp. So throw out reversals every now and then to make 'em scared. When they start crouching, you know what to do.

Mostly I just take the abuse and block for a while to see what their pattern is. Then I take action.

Also, I’m sure as time progresses, people will start looking for the first baton twirl special and just alpha counter it.

If you think Rolento is going to do a standing :lp:, counter. If you think he’s going low, EX Shining Wizard. Otherwise Alpha Counter. If he’s liking to poke you with his cr:mk: try and predict to to shoulder tackle (as patriot circle has 15 frames of startup, cr:mk: is active for 6 frames, so if you can get Shoulder Tackle started at least 1 frame before cr:mk: comes out, you’ll trade, 2 frames and you beat it). Don’t be afraid to trade with Disgraceful Kick for footsies, if he just pokes you then you can still take a combo off it

A little matchup knowledge for you. Against Raven it looks like if you block the double teleport slash you can get a jump fierce in for free which leads to nice damage (j.:hp:, cr.:hp: xx EX Jail Kick, Kneex3, cr.:hp: xx fierce RJB - 501 damage iirc). I haven’t tested it out in training mode yet, but I was able to get it against my friends Raven pretty much every time. Hopefully it is a legit punish and not my friend never blocking high or something.

Why does King have the silliest input shortcut for reverse arm slam combo? Is anybody else dealing with the frustrations of this move coming out randomly alot?

No other qcb motions in the game have the shortcuts that this move has that I’m aware of.

Yeah, it’s weird; I’ve noticed it come out when I’m rotating FORWARD of all things.

Yeah, I’ve gotten a lot of RASC’s when all I did was elbow slash into cr.jab, as well as I’ve gotten a lot of accidental supers when I trying to EX BIg Swing since I have a bad habit of using all 3 buttons for EX in SFxT for some reason.

I dunno if anyone has mentioned this yet but I’ve been using his forward. P+p counter on wake up uppercuts. It works on most except kens heavy srk in which case you use forward k+k. It’s been workin pretty well for me. It’s not something you can use all the time but it’s fun to bait out a wake up srk with a jaguar step and then go into the counter.

Never use alpha counter with King. Does like 10 damage and no comboability afterwards (except in corner).

I’d rather keep the bar .

I think I got something like 401 when I linked cr.:lp: into cl.:mp: xx EX Jail kick etc. It seemed to a bit more damage than cross rushing into cr.:hp: at least.

Does King have any good normals for AA ? Also what are hes best Air to Air moves ?

Happens to me all the time, especially when I’m going from down back to forward to try to counter jump ins. I have no idea why since it’s a qcb move, but it’s stupidly annoying.

King’s cr.HP is a good anti-air, as well as his close st.MP.

What do you guys do when you hit them with EX Jail Kick when they’re crouching? Just go into the DDT? It’d be great if it made them stand up when you comboed into an ex jail kick to give King an easier time with comboing into up knee.

I pretty much never throw out an EX Konvict without having hit a cr:hp: first; just adds so much damage via the Knees.

If you are anticipating something on wakeup, I suggest jag step instead of counter. Its a bit more timing sensitive, but it will go through ALL uppercuts, and unlike the counters, lows as well. You can also get a combo off this for more damage then the counter. It is a harder to time though.

How are you going into cr HP? Are you linking into with something or are you just punishing raw tags or what? I’ve never used the move, I’ve just been hit confirming from cr lps into mp hp ex jail kick.

I have a question for you guys, can you combo after you get a counter hit on Kings shoulder charge? It seems like it, I’m just not sure what to combo into.

Yeah, when it wall bounces, go for whatever you always use to juggle with. I like cr. lp -> knee -> hp xx dp throw.

wow, didn’t realize you could get that much. Thanks, gonna go into practice mode for that. I get a lot of counter hit tackles.

I have another question for you guys, what do you use as King’s pokes? Should I even play footsies or should I just try to get in and go for mixups? I’m having a ton of trouble with trying to poke with lk or mk. I usually end up having to just resort to shoulder tackle to win footsie battles because I can never seem to throw out the right poke at the right time.

pretty much the way I play king is I get him in, do one mixup, and then get him out so that they can’t reset the positioning to force me to play a footsie war. I also try and only tag in with king when I have the meter to make this as easy as possible for me (anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 bars)

but when I am in the situation where I am forced to play footsie, i like cr. mp (its very similar to cody’s in AE) for mid range footsie and at st. rh for longer range footsie since its range is amazing. Low forward isn’t the worst, but it is pretty slow.

Also lets say you are playing someone like ryu, who is playing footsie and fishing for a low forward. for these kinds of attacks, jaguar step can be a good answer since King will just elegantly twirl himself over the attack, allowing you to either punish or apply pressure.

I’m telling you all, use his freaking b:mk: for footsies. It’s got amazing range, is exceptionally hard to punish, and if you trade, then it’s a free combo for you. You can pretty much rely on that, your :hk: and then once you have them conditioned not to do lows due to your :hk:, mix in a counter.
