#2 Athena was not really toned down, its just that the new system favors other characters, making her less effective.
#3 Now that is TOUGH. 2k2 vanessa had those crazy resets, mixups, prioirity, and a freakin MAX combo. while nw vanessa, has been obviously toned down, but for some reason, snk decided to fix only the obvious stuff in this game, so some of her mixup game persists, even though she has to use meter for it. but anyway, i think that access to a 1 meter MAX combo is just wayy too good to be true. ive ocved so many times because i had access to it. besides that, she can even kill her recovery time better than her 2k2 counterpart, cause she can freecancel into puncher weaving or the dash. id say that the 2k2 system is more in her favor though because of her extended juggle capabilites, and the fact that she doesnt need meter to do her juggle reset mixups.
#4 i think that characters like iori, yamazaki, kim, and whip are the only ones that suffer from the lack of BC, because they lose their high damage/max combos with the new system.(cept for whip, she just gets a different one)

#6 i think geese, saisyu, or that priority whore mai all have a good shot against choi. in-fact, mai is my personal anti-choi, although shes not on any of my teams…

And of course we all know DP with Saisyu stops all peoples HH’ng certainly.
I have to dig that combo back up with Robert its been a while since I did it…
she still has retarded invinciblity with dp Ks and DMs, and i think that having meter at the beggining makes her a decent opener, but you have obviously better choices for an opening character.

well anyways heres my breakdown:
#1 his mixups are basic, combos are weak, has to “unlock” half of his moveset with the alcohol, and like the only redeeming quality he has is the invincibility and priority of the fire dm. i think what killed him is his lack of need free cancellable moves. i really dont see the reason why they would not let him juggle after his dm!
#2 i played the arcade version in Chinatown when they had it, but i have the ps2 and xbox versions. i believe angel is broken in that version cause she has a new, easier infinite (although i cant perform any of them). also, the xbox version has seth, and hes basically 2k2 seth. nothing special.
#3 i believe all three of them are better than him, with mature or seth being the best of the four.
#4 actually, i played around with her for a bit. her new free cancellable moves make her less punishable when she is blocked. i still dont like how punishable she normally is though. i do know how to play the rest of the low tier though(except seth for some reason).
EDIT: CHANG HAS THE FREEAKING DAIMON BUG(although he cant abuse it to the same extent)!

I never understood why Mature is so damn low on the teir list. She’s speedy and although her combo’s are limited, she still is damaging…
Simple- Low damage and priority…just like 2k2…and the NW system toning down EVERYONE’S damage doesn’t help much either…making her overall weaker. Sure she has some good combos etc, but compared to 96 Mature she really can’t do too much. But I can paly her and win with her certainly…her HH b is great and her Ebony tears A version is really good for traps and bait situations etc.

#4- Angel is good and I can do both infinites and know what you are talking about, but it is the sheer technicality that most peolpe aren’t willing to dedicate that IMO puts Angel at C Class because you gotta work harder with her to win than Choi, Geese, Saisyu, (Jhun may be the only exception he takes some work)**
#5- Have you also yet learned about how some characters won’t juggle by doing Deadly Rave after Ragin Storm? if so all you gotta do is add a strictly timed C Double Reppuken to solve that.
#1 if what you mean the max2 kaiser phoenix, then no, i havent played around with it much at all.
#2 I know exactly why this happens, and its not only restricted to Geese. Andy also has this handicap of not being able to do his db f+P at point blank range. the reason being is because they both have other moves that share similar inputs, so the ‘inferior’ move is disabled.
#3 I wasnt aware that Ramon’s poke string was an infinite this year, and as far as saisyu, ive never seen it but i bet it has something to do with f+B.
#4 I believe that angel is the best in 2k2 due to her limitless mixup options. her and May Lee have infinitely many mixups that they can do, in addition to their damaging combos.
#5 im gonna try that one, although i almost never use raising storm.

#3- Yeah I was able to master it on a crouching Saisyu but the timing was super strict…hard to get it on others though.
#4- I hear what you are saying and I totally agree that in a masters hands they are/can be the best characters, they are like Tekken players in a 2d game, but no one puts the time and effort in to play them, putting them low class. But both take sheer dedication…Angel has a hard time against Grapplers and shotos surely, matter of fact she has a hard time against many people because she has to be in close to do sheer damage. And surely by that token Jhun is top tier in NW, he can go into his Dragon Step Infinite in many many ways of course, and has soo many mixups. Man I dream of playing one day a master team of Jhun, May Lee, and Angel…someone that knows how to play them to a tee!!!
#5- Yes, now you see why I edited that gamefaqs.com faq in regards to Geese. If that guy seriously thought that using Ragin Storm was the key to winning with Geese then he was smoking serious crack. DEADLY RAVE IS WHERE IT’S AT.**

Close st.b (hits low)xxdf+axxExplosion Ball…this combo is good because it is a low combo that Geese needs and can do it from standing…because if you crouch we all know what combo/s with Geese you are going for.
DG’s Top non-corner combo- HH b/D, St.D(return to neutral)xxDEADLY RAVE…
Works only off of Hyper Hop fellas…I am still researching why that is the case…
You can’t just do St. D (return to neutral)xxDeadly Rave…doesn’t come out…
And this is good because now it gives Geese a reliable way( in case you don’t wanna go for my fancy combos I have listed earlier) to combo into Deadly Rave since all HH moves and Jump moves (normals I mean) are overheads. With the DG top combo you MUST return to neutral to get the DR to come out…if not you WILL NOT GET THE COMBO. It takes practice to perfect the combo, many of you I bet will not get it off the first time.it will frustrate the hell out of you…
But once you get the timing down **it makes Geese that much deadlier!!! **:badboy:

#2 yep, i know that combo. activate heat, juggle with dp+k, qfb+k, until meter gets low, then dm tiger kick. the only setup i know to get them in a juggle state for him is counterhit CD.
#1 there are a lot of grabs that can stop dr, and ive even been stopped by a freaking normal grab! command grabs that i know right off the bat that will stop DR are:
Daimon dp+K
Yashiro hcf+P
Chris dp+P
and many other grabs with invincibility on startup.

BTW: like you said, O.Leona can be a really effective tool, you should look at the 2k2 wiki thread for some vids from a late mexican tourney. they dont hesitate when their health is low.
