The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match

They could, but those two fit the Sirlin definition of having things that can be nerfed- especially Goro.

Iori’s problem is more of “he does too much damage for the effort he has to spend”. Kinda like a 3s Ken on roids…

nothingxs that is a retarded idea. 1/3rd life ganks for everyone off a weak normal that dizzy a third of the time? get the fuck outta here, no one wants to play that shit

i do

iori is balanced

If you look at the tools Iori has, versus the tools most of the cast has. He has more tools and they generally do more damage then most of the cast. The characters that match him in versatility tend to do less damage.

He fits the very definition of S Tier.

Generally, when it comes to rebalancing a fighter- you should look at the A tier/upper mids, not the S tier/top tiers. Generally the A tier characters tend to be more interesting then the S tier, because they usually have a weakness. S tier chars often don’t.

The only chars I can argue a nerf from in UM are Iori (damage nerf but keep his options),
Goro (nerf his bugs and standing B- leave everything else intact- he has other good options besides those two things, but they’re what people use)

I could argue for a small nerf for Kyo as well (very small, in Kyo’s case increasing priority of uppercuts enough to beat jump B would reduce him to A tier from S-) Everyone else is fine, or needs slight to heavy buffing.

As for the low tier characters.

Lucky- I’d make his forward+B an overhead, and make his 2nd Super have some invincibility.

Brian- I’d buff up his Tackle DM to juggle more consistently, and his Supernova should have autoguard and more horizontal hit range in the air.

Billy- make his defense standard. If he took 15% less damage (He takes about 115% right now), he’d be mid at least.

Andy- improve comboability of Hishoken super

Lucky can actually combo a lot of things from his low attacks. For instance, he can do crouch Bx3, qcfx2+P. Problem is, his high/low game is pretty weak because his jump is too high and he has no overhead (even if you make f+B an overhead, I don’t think it will be much of a threat unless he could combo off of it), so rarelyl do you see anyone getting caught by his low attacks.

Lucky shouldn’t rely on combos really, so I wanted to help his game out in other areas. If you gave Lucky ultra-useful combos, he’d become like most of the cast, which is not good.

emil keep your ass in canada thats all i can say
you are a NOBODY
you use a keyboard and macros, you don’t play in arcades, you dont play in tournaments, ive seen you bitch out when people have offered to pay for your flight to other parts of the world for the challenge. stop posting. youre sassy know it all attitude has pissed everyone off for so long and so what if you seem to know a little something about video games, youre a jerk. i think you come on here all the time and live on kaillerra because you dont have friends. hell, i bet theres people gunning for you in canada, too. so stay locked in your moms basement kid and i swear dont ever try talking down to me again. i owned the aes cartridge of this game the day it came
out. how old were you genius? probably about 9 years old.

anyway this thread is about kof98 UM
if youve seen the vids, and know anything about the other games, then you already know who will probably be playable and which chars are fan service and should be banned. who knows nightmare geese could suck even with double air fireballs, a slow giant wall for a fireball, and a screen filling raging storm super. (riiiiggghhtt)

arstal always seems to be right on the money cept’ maybe for goenitz heh
all i know is if you like to rock bosses, i probably wouldnt come to final round
cuz we dont want those ppl here anyway

I’m not the one humiliating myself at the moment. Nothing you said is relevant to anything I said or the thread (nor is it even true).

I talked down to you because you’re wrong and continue to make these crybaby nonsense posts about banning glitches and bosses. I’ll say it again, characters don’t get banned because they are bosses, they get banned because they are broken. Not all bosses are broken (Garou, KofXI). Weren’t you the one that said Grant was broken, when in the end, the guy doesn’t get very far in most tournaments, especially Howard Arena. Your argument has no foundations at all.

Edit: You owned the AES cartridge that long ago and you’re still that bad at the game? Seriously dude, why do you bring up completely irrelevant shit, especially when it can be used against you so easily?

I have to say that Emil is 100% right.

Plus ninjamatt, you never explained what the controversy around KOF XI is about.

I believe it was about using Jyazu and some other bosses, and some unblockable glitches

Hey, wait a second… what about Jyazu?

Well, here’s what I am thinking will happen.

Goenitz will be similar to his SvC form in terms of moves.

Orochi Iori/Leona will just be balanced with damage- which will make them poorly designed chars. If SNK even bothers to do that.

Nightmare Geese is going to be just reppuken/Shippuken/Counters/Supers. Really powerful but not a lot of stuff. He may be too much.

Orochi will be like Mizuchi from NGBC, but without an infinite. He might actually be playable.

If I’m wrong and they do a good job, I’ll be happy, I just don’t expect as much from SNK as some of you guys, I’ve been burned a few too many times.

I’m not saying ban the chars cause they’re bosses. I’m saying ban the chars because they’ll either be broken, or imbalanced so bad that they make the game lose depth. SNK really doesn’t test well, so we should be cautious.

That said, I do believe we should use arrange mode if possible- to keep the buggy crap out of the game that was removed, such as the unblockable fireballs. Those don’t add depth or balance. (Emil disagrees with me on this, we’ve gone over it hundreds of times since the days of the dinosaurs, so just leave it at that.)

I didn’t really say unblockable fireballs add depth, they just give some characters more needed tools, like Athena. In high level play though, those unblockables are rarely used (the ones that require say, whiffing a throw). There are some unblockables I’ve seen Xiaohai do with Iori, without whiffing anything, and I still don’t understand how they work.

I still think it’s just people see the fireball, they try to reversal roll and fuck it up and he just doesn’t do the throw anyway and Owns their ass.

I really don’t think Athena needs the unblockable to be effective in 98- She has a ton of air mobility and priority a good shotostyle game, and a high-priority, easily comboable super that can be used as a juggle from anywhere (but MUCH easier in corner)

Thing is, his Iori is like full screen away. Especially since he doesn’t even try to whiff any scumgales, his opponents would have noticed this and just not bothered to try rolling.

I think I’ve also seen this with Orochi Chris as well and he doesn’t even have any throws to whiff (hcf+K supposedly doesn’t register if you aren’t in range).

Need to get a hold of Songpeng or smth and have him talk to Chinese players. I’m mighty suspicious of it too but that’s the only explanation I can come up with cause I tried so many times to do different shit to make it UB.

Iori is very beatable, I agree with that. He’s just not fun to watch, play against, or even to play as (sometimes) for me… 3 random pokes and you’re dead is not fun

hopefully he gets a new move list… Iori’s gotten so stale. In KoFXI he STILL has that dash back glitch.

iori is the coolest and backdash bug is awesome
