I can understand why some might be frustrated that such a stupid glitch is allowed to stay, i would like to hear snkplaymores excuse.
personally if they just removed athenas stupidness and allowed the rest i’d be happy
Close. I wasn’t going to play a remake game unless they eliminated the most obvious bug, that they eliminated in later games. How hard is that to do? This is either sheer laziness or stupidity on SNK’s part, and yeah, I like SNK stuff, but I’m not going to be a fanboy and shove down shit that I don’t want to shove down. If there’s an option to turn it off, I’ll be ok with it- if turning it off is tourney standard in US. If it’s not, I’ll pass and wait for SC4 and SF4.
KOF XII on the other hand I’m judging in its own merits, but given SNK’s track record and the current hivemind mentality of most Japanese FG devs, I have low expectations on the gameplay.
I don’t see why they should have removed unblockable fireballs. That was actually beneficial to the game, and I think that SNK did the right thing leaving them in. Removing glitches just for the sake of removing glitches (even if they are beneficial to the game’s balance) never works.
Also, the only character that made full use of that bug was Athena and, really, Athena was nowhere near being broken or anything in that game.
I would be with you if we learn that they left dash infinites, but that reaction just because they left unblockable fireballs in is silly IMO.
I agree with you here however I respect that everyone has their opinions and as long as they respect others I respect theirs thus I respect arstals also…
Depends on how you define broke. I define the amount of advantage Iori gets over the rest of the cast as broke. The tipping point for me is, are low-tier characters viable in tourney play? From what I’ve seen on 98 tourney vids, and my own experiences with good players, they’re not.
Also, standards increase if you’re remaking a game. You’re expected to do some QC and fix things, not just throw in a bunch of sloppy chars in a hacked rushjob. What I expect on a remake game is the type of job Sirlin’s doing with ST in STHD. Otherwise, you’re just milking the cash cow. Do I expect ST:HD to be perfect? No. That said, I expect it to be an improvement over ST gameplaywise, and it’s looking like it will be.
I (and I think most people) define a ‘broke’ character as a character (or a few characters in some cases) clearly above the rest of the cast, in a tier of its own. See also: ST Akuma.
Iori, while a great all-around character, and one of the best characters in the game, isn’t on a tier of his own. Goro, Chizuru and Kyo have all their own powerful stuff that makes them as good as him, and lots of characters from the upper-mid and mid tier play him fine (LOL Mai).
You must be playing some mutant version of KOF’98.
Yes, but of course you will have better odds at winning the tournament if you use the best characters. Like, in every fighting game ever.
Except they’ve removed abusive stuff like Goro’s OTG combo while adding new powerful tools to a large part of the cast.
Which is basically what SNK is doing with UM.
SNK could have updated the sprites for this game instead for KOF fucking 94, though
Cronopio, you do bring up some valid points- unlike the two morons above.
Yeah, some other chars can compete with Iori, but all of those other chars have counter-picks. Mai, who I use frequently, is not really a counterpick for Iori. Mai can counterpick Goro though. (Hence why Goro isn’t broke in my eyes- he can be counterpicked, Iori can’t) Someone name me one char, who has a better then 5-5 Matchup with Iori in a 1 on 1 environment? That’s pretty much my definition of a broke character from the balance perspective.
If SNK is trying the Sirlin job with UM, it doesn’t seem like it to me, and that’s what I expect at a minimum from a remake game.
i doubt the number of heidern and takuma users would drop in the glitch was removed, and as a heidern and takuma user i would not drop them, it’s not that big a deal, now if i was an athena user, it’s possible i would think about it.
I’m not really seeing enough improvments in the crappier characters to warrent there grand claims of rebalanceing blah blah blah, and already i’ve seen a couple of things that i HATED!!! in 98 not removed or changed, but then again i’ve not played it so i dont really know the FULL story, i can see where arstal is coming from on a couple of points but on a few of the others i do think he’s a little OTT
From what I’ve seen at the test, Iori’s damage seemed to have gotten nerfed. Uppercuts did almost nothing against someone’s Choi doing psycho crusher spins… can anyone else confirm this?
