The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match Thread

Ugh I don’t know whats going on! I didn’t even know it was a KOF02UM thread! WTF?!

Can anyone give me a quick update of whats going on with the game so far? I was reading thru the first 2 pages of this thread and my eyes got tired…

The only thing I 've seen on the game so far was the Intro Vid on youtube saying this game was actually coming out…havent seen any loktests yet…hows the game coming along?

And is Andy, Chris, and Yuri any good?

Vids:http://d.hatena.ne.jp/video/niconico/sm4969154 There’s a couple.

Changes:

There’s more but a bitch to find.

Here are the ones you missed

and that’s all that’s been released. This thursday they should put up some more if they continue the every two weeks trend

Gotdamn thats alot! But definitely appreciate the catching up guys I definitely needed it! From looking at that vid you gave me, it seems like this version is more combo friendly than 98UM, but still looks like its fun to play. Love the music too, way better than the original Eolith crap. Angel looks to be a beast on there too (but whats new?)

I need to know whats up with Chris though…guess we’ll have to wait for the update. Thanks again guys!

KOF makes my life worth living for =)

Hmm, dang so if Hinako is based off the '00 version then she probably won’t have her Oo-ichiban DM I take it? That would be a little odd to me since she has it in both '01 and '03. Although considering the requirements of being close range and the first hit having to land, probably not a big loss, but it’s fun watching the opponent get slapped around then tossed. Meh, guess I’ll have to wait and see

I imagine Geese being a whole new character in this game from his 2002 console incarnation.

Like, just scrap EVERYTHING about him from top to bottom and start over.

Only PS2? hope theres NA release

Probably will get an XBLA release like '98UM, but it may depend on the success of <–.

when is the release again? , i forgot it :stuck_out_tongue:

“February 26th” says the official site.

Is hopeing that will happen l think 98n um well do good alot better than neowave all say that.

Well, Neowave came at a bad time and was a bad move. MS was hyping the 360’s imminent launch (or had it launched already? I can’t remember), and SNK was preparing to release both Neowave and '94 Re-Bout, but canceled Re-Bout at the last moment… game was literally complete, and had been reviewed, and was canned anyway. They still released Neowave, and at a discounted price, but fans weren’t happy about '94RB’s cancellation. That, and Neowave wasn’t such a stellar game as it was.

I am confident that UM will do exceptionally well on XBLA. So long as the netplay is stable and not lag-ridden, it will get a decently-sized community… most likely those of us who aren’t spending every minute playing SFIV.

That date couldnt come any sooner.

I think it will bomb honestly. The hardcore SNK types will play UM, but SF4 appeals heavily to SNK fans, moreso then any Capcom fighter I can remember. It’s kinda like how Garou appealed to Capcom fans. That said, I really hope I’m wrong, as UM is an excellent game that deserves better.

Kind of looked through the thread but couldn’t find anything. Does anyone know why they are replacing K9999 with Nameless? Is he just too much of a resemblance to Tetsuo, did they get in trouble, anyone know?

yea dont get your hopes up for good kof98um nets. ignition will just prolly port the ps2 version, strip some extra shit out, and slap the netcode from ss2 on it

That’s still better netplay then what we get now, and even that netcode was p2p kaillera quality, so under 100 ping should work.

I dunno, us fighter fans are a strange breed - I know a lot of folks who will scoop up anything that’s a fighter, just because it’s a fighter. Considering that, and the amount of reputation the King of Fighters franchise has behind it, I have a feeling this title won’t be as overlooked as, say, Fatal Fury Special or SS2.

@ Hellfromabove: according to Wiki,

It’s Wiki, so who knows how reliable it is, but I bet that K9999 was simply too similar to Tetsuo for it to have gone unnoticed by Akira’s copyright owners. And we all know license holders really love suing / threatening to sue others for infringements, no matter how trivial.

I thought it was more to do with Eolith owning the character (K9999) and them and SNKP don’t get along anymore. I could be way off though.
