The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match Thread

So, I picked this up and am loving it. The only time I played a KOF was when I was at the laundromat and it was KOF 98 and 99 in a neo geo cabinet. I’d like to get some noobish help if I could. What should I be working on? I spent a couple of hours trying to get hops down, and another couple trying to get my execution back to pre SFIV level, that game has really ruined my precision with it’s lazy inputs.

Also, I’m having a hell of a time with Challenge 13 (I think that’s the number EDIT: NO, it’s Challenge #19). It’s the one where you have to do a quick Max activation and a MAX 2 within a combo. I was trying with Ryo: C Max f+A, QCF HCB LP+SP. It should be fairly simple, but I never get the MAX 2 at the end, just his comparable DM. I’m using one button for LP+SP. Is there any easier character to do this with? It’s to the point that I’m not “learning” anything and I just want the challenge to be done.

I made a video for my friend to get help him get the Clark Roaring Sphere achievement. Fairly basic compared to the other KOF videos I’ve watched, but since there will be a bunch of new people playing it might help someone.

Funny thing was that I sent their tech an e-mail about this bug like, a month before it popped up on the gaming news sites and I got ignored.

If you want to do challenge 13, I recommend you to use Kula

Go to the corner, sC (1 hit), QUICKMAX, sC, Neomax, I can’t recall if you need to run after the quick max but I think than in the corner there was no need for that

you can’t cancel ryo’s f+A into that, only dm/sdm and free-cancelable specials while in max mode. try somebody like terry or kula for it (stand C BC walkup stand C hsdm).

What do people say about Iori, Terry, Li Xiangfei and Kula? Well I am going to use these characters, so I’m just wondering what they are capable of.

Loving this game so far, though I’m having issues with max mode. Like for instance I go into max mode and try to dash and attack but it seems to end up going straight into a B or C attack.

I’d also like a rundown on Li Xiangfei, some bnbs if possible?

Huh. The only reason I was trying with Ryo was because I saw a youtube video of the challenge with him doing that.

oh, that. theres a trick to what he’s doing there. its not a cancel, but a max bypass. he even says how to do it in his youtube comment:

I feel that the controls of BC cancelling is kinda sketchy or it must be my stick? What do you guys feel or think?
I wonder if they’re gonna have a lobby with multiple players/lobbyists they NEED that 1 eye-mediately.

Am I reading the tier list, in that Vanessa is in the bottom of the barrel group? Just how big is the gap among the tiers in this game?

Tier gaps are not that big. I’d say any 2pt or higher character is perfectly viable on any team. 1 pt characters are viable, just as long as you have strong characters as backups.
Only the 4-5 Ratio 0 characters aren’t worth using.

For the record, this way did not work either. I got the execution on my first try even, and after repeated attempts the SDM came out, not the HSDM. So I think blk_brotha may be on to something, and the BC cancel is different. (Not that I’m anyone to judge). I end up doing it with Kula: C, BC, df+C, qcfx2 LK+SK. I didn’t even mean to do the df+C but that’s what came out and it worked. LOL.

you have to do the 214AC part as soon as you hit BC (during the little pause). either that or just do 236214BC~AC. i do most of my bypasses like this. the only difference with BC combos now is that if you do it when there’s lag, there’s no more randomly getting inputs ignored when you try to do something right out of it (k9999 f+A (5 hits) BC close C, for example).

Speaking of Ratio 0 characters, just what did they do to poor May Lee? I wasn’t aware that she got beat up with the nerf bat THAT bad, not Vanessa bad at least.

She can’t roll in Hero mode anymore and also can’t cancel Hero mode s.CD before the active frames (e.g. no more faking s.CD to bait a reversal or roll and punishing). She did get some buffs however due to qcfx2+K DM causing counter-wire and more combo options due to the system changes. I don’t know what she is doing in Ratio 0 on that list, but then again I think a lot of things are wrong with that list.

  • (midscreen) AC~b df+C~b+C, (wallbounce) qcf hcb+BD
  • hcb f+P~+qcf+P, (SC) hcbx2+K/BD
  • qcb hcf+BD HSDM hits low while AC hits high
  • qcf+C puts the opponent into a juggled state when it, if used in the corner her dp+C and qcf hcb+K/BD can be used afterwards

I know, the list is very subjective

2K2 UM on live yet for download? Wanted to download it from work, but after the new update plus their xbox site change I can’t find shit.

Just hope it doesn’t fall victim to the recent unreleased or fucked up stuff happening, I’ve waited to damn long to play UM at this point.

It was only up Friday and most of Saturday I believe. It’ll be back up and working properly with online play and all that on Wednesday (when it was supposed to come out originally).

Sometimes I wonder if I bought an old version of the game. The size of the game is 560 MB, while the marketplace website listed it as 530.2 MB. The official facebook page said there was a gallery and color edit option, which I didn’t find unless I’m blind. Also, when I start the game, my screen glitches for a second after the “Rated T” screen.

Could this mean a non-final / unfinished port was essentially available for us to purchase last weekend…unless the color edit and gallery were cut.

But that WOULD certainly explain the 30MB difference in size.
