Well…for the followup, I actually just repeatedly mash qcf (more than 4 times), then do AC right at the end of the maiden masher. It doesn’t matter if you use qcfx4 or qcfx10, it will still come out.
As for beginner-friendliness, I’d say Kusanagi is easier. Most beginners who start with Kyo have a hard time getting good…
The timing is easy once you learn it. If you notice the maiden masher animation, Iori does 8 slashes followed by a short pause and then the opponent explodes in purple flames. The timing for the AC is during the explosion, while the purple flames are active. Technically the qcfx4 should be input during the pause, but you can actually mash the qcf’s no problem. Just make sure you press AC during the explosion.
Emil do you know the conditions in which the last hit of the qcfx4 follow-up connects? I find if I do the followup from mid screen it whiffs.
Are any of the secret chars okay to use competetively? Defenitely not Rugal or Orochi Iori, but maybe Goenitz is? It sounds stupid but Goenitz is actually pretty hard to use.
I’ve got a question for you console users. I’ve noticed an instant kill glitch on the PS2 version that I’ve reproduced 4 or 5 times accidently. Basically everytie it’s happened was with a reversal c.C when waking up hitting an opponent. I think the opponent might have to be airborne (it worked against a DP). Also it’s only ever occured on the farm stage with the KOF sheep.
Can anyone test this? I’ve never seen it on Arcade or DC, but It’s happened a bunch of times on PS2.
It’s happened with Athena and Ralf for me, if that helps.
Is it the US version? I only have the JPN version but I can try.
re:console-onlies
I thought that the general rule was that console characters would be banned from tourneys/competitive meets by default? (See: Kliff and Justice in XX and #R)
While I agree that Goenitz isn’t as good here as in SvC, Geese in 2k2 is pretty darn good.
yeah, next time we play I’ll try and video tape it. Cause it’s happened like 4 or 5 times. It’s funny, I haven’t heard about this glitch anywhere online.
I added alot of Clark info to the wikipedia…anything I am missing? The info lacks strategies for actually getting in against the opponent, but I’ll be writing that up shortly.
It does get a little better. But there’s some wack stuff in it still. Grabs during wakeup, and K’ unblockable in the arcade version iirc
At any rate, I think this query would be better in another KOF thread, since this one is strictly for 2k2 (well, maybe most things in 2k2 can also apply to Neowave but still).
re:Kyo/Kusanagi
I’ll have to agree with Emil that Kusa is good for beginners in 2k2. Sorta kinda shoto. That, and Kyo is kinda hard n’ iffy to use in 2001-2002.
Well, those sections are slowly getting added…Angel is alot of work to organize. As for videos, you should check out the cyberfanatix.com website which have alot of Angel videos. Go to the Mexican tourney in Leon and download the 5 matches. I think cyberfanatix also has videos from a Japanese tournament that had some Vanessa in there. I have videos on Ramon but they aren’t on the web…what do you want to know about Ramon? I have been lazy to add things to his section, mainly because he isn’t as interesting to me.
Edit: With Ramon, the first key thing you have to learn is his long pressure strings involvling his qcb+C. This move is a fake, but can be used to cancel the recovery on the normals, allowing you to followup. Getting these strings to combo (or even connect) can require some practice those. THe main one is Close C, df+B, qcb+C, Crouch C(or Crouch D), df+B, qcb+C. After that qcb+C, most people will jump C crossup the opponent, although against most people, they would get hit by that attack string anyway. Using the crossup jump C is also key…it’s one of the biggest crossups in the game, next to Choi’s jump C.
