I dig Teen Heroes, ever since I, myself was a Teen.
my favorite teams are Young Justice and the Teen Titans, and I dig the Outsiders (the twenty somethings were kids at one time), Power Pack (Kinda Tweens, but eh), and the Young Avengers as well.
the Kids are all right, 'smatter of fact, my favorite character of all time is Bart Allen. I dig Impulse more than KF or his short tenure as Flash, and can’t wait for him to return (hopefully to the Legion).
i love bart allen as impulse and kid flash…that gradual progression was good. but the jump to flash was not right. wally was my generation’s flash…i wasnt around for his kid flash days i was too young. but wally as the flash is all i knew him as. barry got a good few fucking decades and wally gets like a decade and a half to two. then we suddenly bump bart from being a totally different person. no fuck you…i have a.d.d…give me my a.d.d hero in impulse and kid flash. i love when humberto drew him…it added so much energy to the character. one of the only characters i think his style works for…especially when he had that fucking mop top called hair.
Runaways are my favorite. I wouldn’t call them kid sidekicks, but they are teen heroes.
I also really liked Sean McKeever’s Inhumans. He did some fun stuff with the young Inhumans going to an American college.
Teen Titans was something I really liked when Johns did the relaunch. Those first 20 issues or so are so good. My friend actually has a full run of the '80s Wolfman/Perez New TT. I once burned through them all in like a week. It was a hairy experience, but one I don’t really regret.
But I never liked Aqualad. I never saw the point of making a younger version of a lameass.
Not Sidekicks, but teen heroes all the same, I really loved Spy Boy. The High School part of the story came off as being very realistic to me. Well not realistic, let’s say believable. Towards the end there was a story with Butch who started out as a drug dealing bully. I started to like him at the very end when they told his backstory, it was kind of like a Flash Thompson thing where you start out hating him and then change your mind later on.
Ditto plus 100 for McKeever’s Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane.
And yeah Dick Grayson owns all. Just the fact that I grew up with him on the 60s Batman sitcom (what, it wasn’t a sitcom???) with him saying “Holy ___ Batman!” all the time. He was also voiced by Casey Kasem (Shaggy) on all of those Superfriends - Super Powers cartoons where he did the same exact thing.
After DG it’s gotta be his rip off, Bucky! Winter Soldier, possible future Captain America ah yeah!
Tim Drake is third, growing up to be the greatest DC martial artist ever for the win! :nunchuck:
Favorite teenage team for me is The New Mutants, the original squad written by Louise Simonson. A big part of that is I was a teenager when I read those comics. It’s kind of cool that all of them have aged with me. Well by Marvel’s timeline I’m probably older than all of them now and I doubt they will age much from this point on.
Oh, man. Darkhawk. I used to love those comics. He was like a cross between a Power Ranger and Wolverine. One of the most memorable comics I had as a kid was this issue of Darkhawk where the Blob was trying to sit on him on the cover.
Also, there was that one team-up in Amazing Spider-Man where Spidey hooked up with Darkhawk, Nova, Moon Knight, Night Thrasher (another teen hero I really like), and the Punisher to fight the Secret Empire and the Wrecking Crew. I reread this storyarc last year and was appalled at how bad it is, because I loved it when I was a kid. There’s this one scene when Punisher gets knocked unconscious, and when the other heroes grab him and fly away in Moon Knight’s plane, Punisher (still unconscious) recites his ENTIRE ORIGIN. Then Night Thrasher was like, “Wow. So that’s his story. Incredible. He and I have more in common than I thought!”
wally took up the mantle of the flash in 85 or was he still kid flash then? i never started reading til about 95/96…when mark waid and wieringo took over.
