The Jojo's Bizzare Adventure Thread!

Just keep practicing slide method. I play Jotaro as well and Tandems are my strongest point with him, and I slide. Try sliding with your middle finger if you aren’t doing so already. I find it keeps my hand level and allows me to glide my hand across the buttons much more smoothly and evenly. Sometimes when I slide with my index finger I get something like A, B, C, A, C, C, B, C and I’m just like “WTF?? o_O”

I was using my middle finger to get the tandem out today and was getting much cleaner results, still needs work but that’s definitely an improvement over using my index finger, its like it was getting caught between buttons and that’s why I was hitting the inputs twice.

Even sitting here now practicing on my TE I can feel my fingers are gliding much smoother.

Hi everyone,

i’m a french player of JJBA, i play this game for several years now and it’s awesome to see that i still have so much to learn about this great game. I started to play on DC (with this f***ing pad, my hands still hurt), then on CPS3 with a friend, and now on emulator, i just get the training mode for fbA, i will use it wisely ^^
I sometimes go to GGPO’s jojo room, it should be fun if there were more euro player, I can play with US player but the lag make doing combos impossible in this game (and the characters keep teleporting ^^) so we can’t play our best like that.

For the piano/slide tandem, i used to do the slide tricks, but i oftenly miss some buttons for no reason in the middle of the tandem, so I switch to the piano tricks, now i can do A-B-C up to 6 times so it’s not so bad.
I should say that, if you play with arcade stick, use piano, if you play with a pad, use slide. If you play with keyboard, go buy something

ps: sorry for my english, i’m not use to it
ps2: does someone know how to do the s.5C - s.5C combo with Joseph?
ps3: too expensive

CocoGuts, as soon as I get my other pc running or get the frame rate issue on nfba fixed I’ll play you

Isn’t the s.5C > s.5C only possible when using it in a combo? :S

also LMAO

Joseph’s s.5C - s.5C link is some kind of a bug, i tried to crouch/walk/jump/stand/all cancel to do it but I always failed.
As you can see here it’s possible to do (look at 0:30):

Same here, done in a match (4:55):

Speaking of bugs, and the first video posted, is there any trick to landing the K.O. hit xx Timestop? The one I saw done in a match relied on tanden giving proper spacing, but in the Meikyousisui DVD preview (), he combos it off what looks like a normal. Is it just difficult timing, the way it is to have a super activate post-K.O. in 3s, and presumably other CPS3 games?

I would say it’s like 3s, but i never try to do this bug. I saw it in an ancient match video, Dio did this at the end of a round, then throw knives, but that didn’t instant kill the other player, it delt normal damage. Also there’s some difference between the arcade and DC version (some of the combo video are done on the DC version), I remember that on the DC version if you do The World on okizeme (after a 2C) the damage dealt can be up to 4-5 times the normal. This work with Dio/Shadow/Jotaro.

I’ve been using a CPS3emulator, and I’ve done it with frame advance; I know that Dio’s 5C/close 5C are empty-cancelable into the timestop, as I’ve finished the inputs both on the frame before it hits the opponent, and also on the frame that it connects, but if I wait until it connects, it doesn’t come out - I’m not sure if this is because I have to finish the input sooner/later, or if I’m doing it wrong. I believe I tested it properly with the Knives super, just to see if it was special. I don’t know a simple way to do this, even with frame-by-frame inputs.

it’s character specific. doesn’t work on anbody from what i can tell. try it off of the tandem setup vs jotaro or abdul. or just empty knives (with stand on) fullscreen, the world vs. abdul. but the timing is hard even if you just do empty knives

This game is so dope, I wonder if I should have it hosted at the Tension Pulse 2010 tournament? Does anybody still play this anymore?

Yeah people still play, I think it would be great if you hosted a tourney gor it even if it were to just garner other peoples interest. Hype it up as a special side tourney with some combo vids and match vids :stuck_out_tongue:

Yo I just had a thought:
If I’m right about move recovery being like wakeup, then that means on that special “last frame” you should be able to block, but not attack, so the framedata might not be “1f off everywhere”.

As in, a +3 move with 3F startup wouldn’t link into itself, but a -3 move should be punishable by a 3F startup move. Reason: With +3 you aren’t able to do anything on the first frame (except block or walk) so your move doesn’t hit until the 4th frame which is a frame too late, but with -3F you’re stuck in literal recovery and can’t block until the fourth frame so a 3F startup move should be able to punish.

But I dunno if recovering from blockstun/hitstun is like recovering on wakeup, lol. Have to test that. Damn frames why must they be complicated.

well, i can explain the the startup being 1f off on my side because i started counting from the frame the A B C D icons appear on the screen in developer mode, whereas it seems that the moves will only start the frame after that (at least thats my theory).

Then that would mean 1F in the other direction, which would make certain 1F links possible when they aren’t.

the weird thing is, take this example:
dio’s S.5A gives +10F on hit (tested with walk cancel), dashes have 2f startup, and dashing s.2B is 7f startup using my old method (so it should be 6f). 2+7 = 9f, so it’s a 1F link, like i think it is, which is odd, since it should be a 2F link according to the internal framedata. except if your rule applies and the there’s 1F after every move where you can walk, but do nothing else. so that would mean:

  • 1f less at the beginning, 1f more at the end, before you can dash.
things keep getting more and more confusing ^^

Its Jojo’s the game was rushed. So shit is gonna get confusing on the engine at least they based the code on Warzard instead having to do it from scratch (looking at you mvc2). Plus on top of that they just went crazy with the character buffs compared to the first version.

Dashes are done differently. I already tested with Midler, technically she should have a dash infinite, and does not.

well, rushed or not, those frames dont magically disappear, so there must be a logical explanation to this “problem” ^^
anyway, as long as it works and as long as we have comparative frame data for move startup, i’m happy.

Dashes have a startup, but moves done at certain points in that startup (and early during the actual dash animation) do their non-dashing versions, at least on some characters. Could this explain it?

Example: Joseph/Jojo can cancel their dashes near the startup (I think the window is bigger than 2 frames because I hit it consistently) if they attack ‘right away’.

I got obsessed with this bug a while back and spent an hour trying to figure it out - I posted some details about it earlier in the thread, but don’t remember what page. A couple months ago. It is definitely a bug, and hard to do at will (but somewhat possible).

It’s especially odd, because when you meet the criteria to do it, it does both 5C attacks with only one button-press of C. The bug has to do with:

  1. Cancelling out of a dash during dash startup with C
  2. Meeting some other requirement (has to do with either hitboxes of opponent being in recovery or threatening you, similar to Y. Joseph’s blocking glitch)

If memory serves, the reason I say #2, is because I don’t think I’ve ever been able to make it happen with 2P inactive (as in a player not doing anything).

Here is a video of me doing it:

Sometime I’ll spend some time looking at the bug again to figure out those last missing pieces of the puzzle.

By the way, anyone ever noticed when playing against the CPU (I know, I know) where you sometimes hear Dio do a move (apparently) that that you HEAR him start (the same sound as stand-off C/a3) but the move never actually comes out? Is there some weird glitch/cancel he has, or is this only doable by the CPU?
