The Jesse Ventura, I mean Haggar Thread (MvC3)

I used to go for punch hyper after the lariat, but similar to you, the frustration from people falling out oh so consistently finally got to me, so now I just go for belly flop. Probably less damage, and it doesn’t DHC into chris’s knife hyper but ill take it. Besides chris is usually dead by the time haggar comes out.

On a side note I found something interesting last night with haggar and chris, apparently if you perform a command grab and call out chris’s land mine right as your performing it, it’ll explode and otg them allowing haggar to combo off his command grab. Haven’t tested it in a real match yet to see how practical it is, but its good to know i think. I also haven’t tested what other assists work other than landmine and shocking pink(viewtiful joe) but off the top I can’t think of any other assists that work in similar fashions anyway.

Guys for person like me who never really used a Haggar type character, is Haggar close range friendly as I would like a powerful char with good stamina. I was thinking of Thor but apprently he is shit

I got my game and I will be getting a stick this weekend and want to start playing as I will be at Evo, I am not playing to conquer the world but rather just try and play my best at Evo.

I am thinking of a team of Wolverine/Wesker and Dante/task master, now the first 2 are at least fast in case anyone says they are close range only.

Is Haggar combo friendly in tersm of chain combos of stuff like lp, mp,hp,lk, mk, hk, special and then repeat and knock to the floor?

Thanks

I suggest just trying him out when you get the game, but in general his BNBs are not magic series. To maximize damage/meter on the ground, Haggar uses a combination of L->M to some type of special/command move (pipe, violent axe, hoodlum launch) as his H wastes a ground bounce and c.H kicks your opponent away and puts you into a soft knockdown state unless you cancel the normal. His aerial raves more closely resemble M M H S, but there are variations of the timing and number of M’s used depending on placement and opponent size, and instead of S, you can go for headbutt, pipe, and usually the preferred method for getting the untechable knockdown is Wild Swing (qcf S). You may very often need to start a combo with pipe, so you also have to keep in mind how many ground bounces you have left depending on the combo too.

So in summary, his combos are sort of slow but require some directional input, and they vary depending on the situation. Haggar benefits most from resets IMO, so it’s good that he has variety in his combos to go for mixups/keep them guessing. Hope that helps and good luck with Haggar~

Basic haggar combo for you ryu n Ken:

middle of screen: L M xx Hoodlum Launcher L (neutral jump) M M H down+H (land) hoodlum launcher L (neutral jump) M H xx QCF +S
in corner: L M Forward+ H xx Hoodlum Launcher (neutral jump) M M H down+H (land) hoodlum launcher L (neutral jump) M H xx QCF + S

after succesful air pipe: M S foward jump M M Up+H qcf+S
after succesful lariat: giant haggar press.

Anytime you land rapid fire fist: wait a bit hoodlum L (neutral jump) M H xx QCF+S

easy peasy stuff. Good luck.

j.L, j.L, air pipe. Hit confirmable pipe. Also if you call out Chris’ landmine before you j.L, the mine will cancel out the first pipe’s ground bounce and give you an extended combo.

Pretty gimmicky, but good against characters coming in.

Thanks dude, will try out Haggar and stuff and see if he fits my style of play

Now that I think about it… wouldnt L M H SNAPBACK work?

Yay, my team can do the DHC glitch.I finally realised it.

Haggar BNB end in hoodlum launcher L but dont follow upwards into the air just go straight into rapid fist or body press(it will put your opponent into a spinning state), DHC before the super comes out into Taskmaster counter super then do st.H with taskmaster into double mighty swing combo.

nevermind Haggar can combo snap back after anything. My Lariat punish no goes Lariat xx Body press xx Legion arrows L+M or L+H

they seem to bounce out of Rapid fire fist > Sweep combo… I think I’m doing something wrong.

I find mixing air Pipe with jump L to be effective. and I’ve caught a few people who duck lariat and just start spamming crL with a surprise buttsecks level 3

Haha yeah I do the same thing with my team. There’s quite alot of characters that can DHC Glitch from Haggar, some I didn’t even expect, like Spencer and Skrull I think ( as long as you don’t put a ground bounce in the combo skrull can OTG with his Down+Heavy into launcher I think, never completed it. Lacking in Skrull skills).

Regarding Jak d ripr

“Haggar can combo after his PILE DRIVER (all versions, timing is similar too) by using Chris land mine assist”, but there are issues with it.

You cant just call the Chris mine assist and pile driver them, since the mine is thrown farther away and Haggar pulls the enemy closer to him, the mine will whiff. The only way to make sure it would be right is if they are cornered (as in the wall is pressed their back) or if you called the assist THEN wavedash/dash in Pile driver (as long as chris mine can reach).

I have tested this and the combo damages are of the charts. Using H pile driver, you can easily reach 700k meterless assistless if you go directly to L hoodlum launcher, since H pile driver + Chris land mine alone deals 310k damage. Infact, this have more damage potential than almost all of Haggar’s combo options due to huge damage start (310k) and it does not need hit confirming normals, so you can just go directly to the L hoodlum launcher for a great damage.

Out of my online matches, it is very very difficult to do this because:

1- LOL @ HAGGAR Pile driver range
2- I risk my assist and point character if I whiff
3- I must have Haggar on point (It really is disadvantageous against most cast, also my other chars need Haggar assist, specially Chris)
4- I must use a specific assist for a specific character’s specific set up, since Chris Gun shot assist gives Haggar a fraction time to get in, I lose this perk for an “once in a blue moon” set up and after snap backs / downs.

Other than that, I land it only once, in my 80 matches so far. The damage is the only merit of this set up (since Haggar Pile driver does not add too much scalling, since developers intended it to be combo-less)

I did some scanning and didnt see anything on this… The other night I was playin haggar and mid screen launched someone went to his m,m,h,pipe… on the way down im not sure if I got 2 extra hits in or just one. Whatever happen caused a wall bounce…it looked kinda glitchy almost because they shot to the wall so fast. I know you can do the m,m,h,pipe, then s. I just dont know what caused the wallbounce? Anyone seen this or can explain it to me?

You might have pressed a direction plus S rather than just S.

Heya, new poster, long time fighting game player (albeit not at pro level)!

So I’ve been messing around in the lab trying to find a good second partner for Haggar (Arthur’s already a shoe in for his projectile assisting), and found a rather…Interesting quirk with Spencer. I don’t know whether or not this is viable in a real fight, but the assist setup I’ve found seems to offer a couple interesting setups. Assuming you get your opponent on the defense after this, it may very well allow for an easy Lv3 Hyper.

Basically, at the moment you use a groundbounce attack (Aerial Lead Pipe or standing H), call in Spencer with his angled grapple assist. As you groundbounce the victim, Spencer should catch them with his grapple arm and bring them back to a standing hitstun state. From here, if they don’t jump, or try to counterattack you, it seems a Haggar Buster can be landed on them. Similarly, if they try to jump to escape a grab, his anti air Hoodlum Launcher seems to work fairly well too.

I’ve only tried this in training mode so far, so I’m just wondering if this setup has any viability in a real match, since it seems to be a rather interesting way to bounce someone and then pull them into a possible grab setup.

I can confirm there are ways to counter it with specific characters. Anyone who has invincibility startup HCs can avoid being grabbed by Haggar (Ryu’s Shinkuu Tatsumaki comes to mind). Some normals can be grabbed through however, like a light Shoryuken (if you grab them before they leave the ground).

So, does this have any potential use? Or have I just found an interesting gimmick with no real applications in a real fight?

The first question would be how much more damage do these setups net opposed to just finishing your combo.

Hey folks,

I have been matched up against a lot of Haggar players recently and unsurprisingly they just spam that damn pipe!

I tried everything, dash away and come in when he lands, even dash under it but the pipe hits me even if I’m behind him!

Anyone have any strategies to really getting in on those pipe lovers?

Space yourself and block. Shoot some projectiles.

Hulk rapes Haggar, Armor’d H will ALWAYS beat Pipe

I think headbutt dizzy beats out Armor. Therefore stop spamming D+H and start spamming U+H.
