The Jesse Ventura, I mean Haggar Thread (MvC3)

I still am. It’s not an assist that can be abused as freely as anything, but an invincible assist with that big of a hitbox that sets up air combos? Yeah, I still think that’s good.

For the record, it took less than 10 sec for Haggar to heal that damage back.

Other observations:

 • It was shown in the trailer, and it’s shown in the new vids: Haggar’s Giant Swing throw attack doesn’t seem to do that damage.
 • Stamina looks really really good.
 • “Best” damage looks a little over 50% on Ryu.
 • His jumping dropkick (j.B?) stays out a loooong time
 • His lvl3 is 0 frames. Opp is completely frozen; the beginning seems to be part of a canned animation.
 • Anti-air grab looks amazingly slow. I doubt that’s that “chargeability”; it’s just startup, just like Magneto Hyper Grav. I hope its hitbox is big. Might be good for some basic crossup assist shenanigans.
 • Normal throw looks mashable. It isn’t “better” than Piledriver use-wise, but look-wise? Yeah, bearhug headbutts look awesome.
 • I’m still not thrilled about Piledriver. And really, vids like that usually show what’s possible. If the gametesters aren’t show OTG off of Piledriver, it might not be possible

We only seen the Giant Swing attack as a combo ender. We need to see how much damage it does on it’s own to properly judge it.

That doesn’t look like startup at all for his anti-air. He was powering up during the animation. With Mags hyper grav he just stands there waiting for grav to come. Also when you look at the reveal trailer it out it quick against Mags.

That was his air grab in the reveal, not his Gief-esque anti-air grab. The anti-air grab was never seen before.

yeah umm what anti-air grab are you guys talking about?

At the 2:00 mark. The application looks like Gief’s. Except the startup is awful.

EDIT: It’s possible Backdrop might be the successful anti-air throw. Reveal vid could be showing Haggar already in mid-air without showing that startup

oh i completely missed these vids haha, must’ve been asleep, watching now

The AA grab is definitely the Backdrop, and the hitbox IS good. In the reveal trailer, if you pause it at 0:35 - 0:36, you will see the charge up animation exactly like the running grab. AND you can also see that Mags is actually BELOW Haggars waist, right before he gets grabbed. I.E., that hitbox is likely from Haggar’s head to his knees.

Doubtful. You don’t yell out the name of the move unless it’s a special.

So could haggar potentially BODYSLAM, x factor cancel, then BODY SLAM again? That would be awesome considering BS seems like a pretty good hyper

EDIT: BSxxKFCxxBs shall forever be known as the DOUBLE DOWN (if it actually works). Credits go to Macarratti.

By air grab, i mean “special grab done in the air”, like Thor’s air grab. I was under the assumption that Backdrop was similar. Jump in the air and do qcb+A close to opp. But I believe I’m wrong since his anti-air grab looks to be Backdrop.

And regarding the startup, I didn’t see anything in the reveal that showed up the complete animation. It just looks like the cut the startup out of the vid.

I know this is last week shit, but I felt like I had to address it.

lol I know this is like last weeks quote, but MVC2 Zangief’s lariat assist was bananas, even without metal mode. It goes through Capcom’s assist and even beat Tron’s and Dooms assist. It loses to Psylocke and Cyclops AAA, but 3/5 aint bad.

Lariat also set up IM’s infinite, the ROM, and several air combos.

Mike Haggar’s Lariat looks the same.

This makes no sense. I think I know what you are going to though.

Didn’t MVC2 come out in 2000? Besides the point, her assist is bananas, but she can hang at point. Her mobility is pretty good, plus along with that mobility, you have high priority which only Sent can match.

Its whatever though.

I wouldn’t just stick Haggar at the assist spot just yet, we still haven’t seen everything.

4 things:

 1. He’s a grappler. Of course he can’t fucking space, especially in Marvel. Come up with something better.

And he looks like he can own Wolverine and X-23 for free with that lariat.

 1. You are judging a book by its cover. you are assuming that because he looks slow in a demo video that he can’t rush down. Lets not say he sucks now, ok?

 2. Crib shit? Do you mean something good? We got a month to see. Don’t bitch yet.

 3. lol Colossus can move across the screen for free. IAT = Instant Air Tackle. Not only is it high priority, but it is safe from Hail and he gets over 3/4 of the screen. Destroys low tiers for free. Gives Magneto a hell of a pain. Makes Storm bitch hard. Keeps Sentinel out of the air. All for free. Learn some marvel my nigga.

No insults to you. You probably a cool ass guy in real life, but I don’t think you should judge him yet and you don’t know everything about the game. Hell, I don’t even know alot about the game. Lets chill.

I might be on crack, but I saw something really cheap with him

:20 Don’t whiff a normal on him. Free launcher.

It looks like he got close pretty quick with that. The range may not be so good, but still

From freeze framing that bit from the reveal trailer it’s possible that his AA grab can also be done in the air.

That’s not a normal, that’s Skrull’s AA command grab. Either way I hope what you said will be the case

nah it’s a normal. his AA grab goes ALL the way across the screen, even when it’s zoomed out. He also has an AA poke that’s shorter range.

Either way it looks like Haggar will be effective against close combat characters. That launcher is definitely effective for punishing on reaction imo

I’m very sure that the AA grab, from the ground, is Backdrop. See my last post.
His spinning air grab, the one that he combos into is likely a completely separate special.

That move might be one of the better close range punishes in the game.

pure speculation though

I wasn’t disputing that. Just brought up the possibly of Backdrop also being doable from the air.

Oh I got you man, sorry for the mis-communication.

Just watched the new gameplay videos, and I noticed that haggar looses some health when he does his lariat. Nice attention to detail.
