What ultimately kills Bengus work on SFV is the lack of consistency, it is clear that those drawings were thrown without too much thought on them, and all the anatomical hicups are indeed errors, compare it to stuff like One Piece that has a similar look, but you can see how it is an stylistic choice instead of just being a sign of a work done hastely. Specially because w e all know that he can actually draw.

He is one of the artist in my collection of artbooks
Perspectives, man. A woman with a spine that’s on the verge of breaking is disturbing to me. Just because your opinions don’t coincide doesn’t necessarily mean we’re exaggerating.
Ryu looks like Gilbert Melendez in that artwork and I don’t know what the hell is going on with Ken. People that complain about Ken’s face in SFV don’t know how bad it truly could have been.
Even if Bengus drew every story demo in a short time frame, which is possible, there are no hasty errors in his pieces. Simply, that’s how he makes illustrations nowadays. For this I find funny the general indignation.
It’s all right. Capcom’s fault, those bastards don’t think about sensitive men.
But the dude can do good -anime- anatomy stuff if he want, thing is in these days seem focused on other stuff
He’s either in some personal stylistical research or they just paid him low to do 100 illustrations so he sketched throught them without care
Yeah, i love Onepiece to death too, ART INCLUDED
Actually i consider OP art one of the best things, it bring so much innovation, originality e personality
Said that
Only because i love it does’nt mean i want it in SF, i agree
SF got by far the best FG art thought years: SF2, SFA, SF3… even Bengus stuff for SF1 was pretty cool
Then something happened: artgerm, sf4 multiple awkwardness, kiki, Bengus-on-drugs, shinkiro taking on spin-off, udon everywhere
It’s like a fucking nightmare and capcom can’t wake up lol
PS: btw i liked the inluence Onepiece got on SF charadesign, Rufus, Hakan, Fang and Necalli are probably all born on that wave.
It’s a nice way to continue SF formula of put bizzarre charadesigns here and there
I think it’s weird how Capcom seems to think that the anime SF2 movie is the greatest thing ever, and they take pretty much everything from it. But they’ve never bothered to try and recreate the movie’s art style in a game.
GGXrd pretty much proved that any 2D art can now be perfectly replicated with 3D graphics, so I don’t know why they haven’t just done that.
I blame the “too anime” douche crowd and theyr power on market during the X360 era
Capcom need to understand 3 things:
[list]
[] Hardcore anti-japan crowd it’s not that relevant as they pretend, they’re just loud (as Gaf hipsters).
And SF is a japanese game, so essentially fuck them.
[] Many peoples that say to hate anime hate NEW cute/pussyfied anime of recent years, old school badass anime style fit perfectly with SF spirit and most of westeners will like it or at least not be rejected by it.
[*] Anime aesthetic is NOT why they get middle fingers in the west

(Recently I had forgotten) The number 2 in Shadaloo. It’s Lord F.A.N.G the deadly poison master Here’s his Command List
Name:F.A.N.G
Height: 212cm (222cm while stretching)
Weight: Unknown
Blood Type: Unknown
Birthday: February 2
Country of Origin: Somewhere in Asia
Favorite things: Experiments, Number 2, Lord Bison
Dislikes: Enemies of Lord Bison, Numbers 1 & 3
Fighting style: *Dokushu Kenpo (Poison Hand Kenpo)
He was appointed the new member of the Four Heavenly Kings of Shadaloo,
he professes himself part of a Royal Family of a ruined country.
He fights using the Dokushu loading his own hands with poison.
He idolizes over Lord Bison, in order to contribute to Shadaloo,
he acts at the center of the Black Moons plan.
Therefore, he noticed firsthand the betrayal of Rashid’s friend
and disposed of them using the Dokushu.
He usually speaks in an innocent tone “~Death”,
but he is merely acting and his demeanor can change at will,
a glimpse of this face can be seen corresponding to situations of intensity.
“2” is his lucky number, and “2” is something that he insists upon.
They were going for an animated artwork look rather than an animated cell look. Even if it ended looking playdough-ish in SFV I kinda prefer it to generic anime shaders.
