On Balrog: I figured that Ed would be a huge part of his post-SF4 development, and I was not disappointed. I think the relationship comes down to Balrog having someone who does all the thinking and magical ki shit for him, which was basically his greatest weakness as a person and fighter. Balrog can punch shit full-time without worrying about this week’s ki effect shitting on him, and is strong enough on his own that he could likely take out Ed if the little bastard ever double-crossed him. With Ed beside him, Balrog finally becomes on par with the non-anime world warriors like Zangief, as seen in the cinematic. If I had any critique of him (and Vega) in the cinematic it would be that they’re almost absent from the Shadowloo base outside of one encounter each. Compare that to FANG, who fights almost a third of the cast. I can’t help but feel they should have at least been present for both phases of the attack on Shadowloo:
-Balrog faces down one of the world warriors (likely Guile or Dhalsim, maybe Ken or Zangief or even Laura if they wanted to force her in) during the second part
-Vega encounters Chun-Li and Li-Fen, building off of the rivalry from Chun’s prologue
On Laura: I think Capcom did okay given her entire character can be described as “sexy ju-jujitsu lady”. Her interactions with Sean are what make her an actual character. If they ever build on her more, I’d love to see interaction with the rest of her family and how MJJ is treated there.
It’s fun how the 3 brothers reacted to the family’s art
Fabio- genius student, completely loyal to MJJ style
Laura- does MJJ but she mix it with her own very personal style
Sean- i want be a fucking shoto lulz
Also…yeah, as someone that has showcased their art and, y’know, gets paid to do it, I’m 100% positive I can do better than what Bengus is doing for SFV (I’m also sure Bengus can do better…)
Of course that Laura is not the best example of anatomy and one of the worst pieces from Bengus, but those “disgusting”, “nauseous”, “garbage” etc. comments are just exaggerated and boring.
Don’t worry. It’s a fact that we can’t do better; there’s no reason for such a request.
The thing with art is that anatomy is not usually one of the end goals when pursuing an stylized look.
But for that the artist needs an good understanding of anatomy to make it work.
Otherwise you end with stuff that it looks really weird and amateurish.
Bengus understand anatomy, he’s basically the father of capcom body stylization
And he ever favored trait and impact over anatomy, just not at these levels of no-fucks-given
But again, the Ryu i posted one page ago is Bengus 2015, and is better than anything i seen in SFV
Btw as most “recent stuff” i REALLY liked this Ikeno style in SF4 (too bad official art took another direction), got dat high quality manga vibe (think Berserk or Vagabond) and strong capcom identity
