Would love to see Urien trap Bison in a brain contained within the Illuminati tower of predecessors. Takes Bison off the board a bit AND traps him in a nightmarish hell without sensory input where his only company is himself.
Holy shit. I had nearly 100 notification for this thread. I thought to myself āStory mode just got released earlier than expected or Ingrid just got announcedā. I am so salty right now
Eh⦠I donāt think Gill is necessarily evil. Heās sort of amoral and self-absorbed, and he can do bad things but it looks like heās also capable of great good.
Iād like to clarify a few things in regards to what you were saying about Bison if I may.
Technology
Bison practices and mastered an art or discipline like any other master in the series. In Ansatsuken, utilizing the SNH risks losing your mind. In Soul Power, utilizing Psycho Power risks losing your body. Ironic somewhat donāt you think? Bison having realized that a natural human form can only take him so far before degeneration kicks in, he resorted to science. All the science is doing is increasing his threshold for power far FAR beyond what is natural, but the actual harnessing and focusing of this power is still very much Bisonās own mastery.
You can see the science, be it the external Psycho Drive, or the genetically engineered host bodies, as crutches or as I see them, extensions of his will. Shadaloo itself is ultimately just an extension of his will. Everything and everyone is a tool in service of his supreme ambition. But make no mistake, these things compliment him, but they donāt do the work for him. He put this all together over decades starting with himself, and if we were take it all away from him, he will likely put it all back together again.
Even now in SF5, from what we know about the Black Moons is that they are WMDs that increase Bisonās power indirectly by terrorizing humanity. Bison is still harnessing all that power on his own. Why does it surprise you that someone as evil and arrogant as Bison would not accept the natural order of things?
Martial Artist
He is one, indubitably. Psycho/Soul Power is an art. Even without it, he can hold his own with ease. But the world is his arena not the street. I donāt understand why you would want to hold him to the āmartial artā standards of someone like Gouken, Ryu, or Akuma - Most Street Fighters are nothing like these guys too. While they were being hermits in a cave somewhere, Bison was tearing open holes in space and time, and making incredible breakthroughs in several fields of science and technology. But I donāt hold their anti-social tendency for solitude against them. There is also no reason to believe that Bison has become complacent and stopped training in his off time.
Body hopping/Essence Transfer
This is a plot device. Even before Alpha 3 introduced the mechanism by which Bison comes back, Bison was already coming back. In the SF2 Animated Movie Bison comes back unharmed even after being hit by two fireballs that propel him into an aircraft, exploding. In the SF Movie with Raul Julia, Bison also comes back after being electrocuted and have his base explode/collapse onto him. He also comes back after Alpha 1/2. All Alpha 3 did was offer an explanation. This explanation or plot device is irrelevant truly - What is relevant however is the intent behind it. Bison always comes back. One way or another. I donāt see how this form of āplot armorā diminishes him, if anything, it makes him terrifying. Other mainstays have their own form of plot armor.
Same here
Three hours before it comes out, iāll be off the boards. Iām planning on playing story mode multiple times before i write an extensive review.
First time to enjoy it
Second time on harder difficulty
Third time to form a critique on story overall
Fourth time to go indepth with Chun-Liās role
And a fifth and final time for final impressions.
Iām debating whether to write a review act-by-act or one giant ass one. I know i wanna wrote one post alll about Chun-Li and her role in the story. Weāll see.
24 hrs to go. The moment weāve been waiting for since February is upon us.
Lol yeah, I saw a bunch of mentions I thought 3 things;
-story mode is released and it involves Q
-Story mode is released and it involves Ingrid (GOD FORBID)
-I had unknowingly released evil upon the thread and people were calling on me to fix my mistake
problem is they (Capcom) already pissed on his record and legacy some times
defeated by Rose once, stopped in SFA, used as jobber to make shine that ginger demon shoto shit, said to be a thing of the past by SF3 lore, become a shady chess player in SF4 (with only a badass moment at some point at the very end)
the boat to make him just a simple unstoppable power itās sailed long ago
the point of being the absolute seem invicible Boss is that is a role with short life, at the end of a single game somebody will manage to stop him and the narrative magic is gone
Bison has been around too long for that
So they turned him into a less direct, more plan-architect char⦠in that way, each time he return good guys have to fear his new world-conquest strategy more than him himself.
Itās probably less anime cool but itās the only way you can keep a villain boss around and relevant that long
About Akuma i donāt dislike the concept of absolute power āvillainā, i dislike the absolute power char of SF being that ginger demon shoto shit
Akuma will be cool keept as absolute TECHNIQUE monster, kinda like Gen.
Fuck the islands and nuclear submarines chopping, keep that for true Final Bosses, his role should be Secret Char that test your ability, more than absolute DBZ ki arm-wrestling ultimate challenge
His design and appearence is weak for that, his character has been around long too and itās quickly becomed boring
He should look like the #2 of each game, more deadly than anybody but not better than the current #1 (the final boss)
True Final absolute power kind of boss should look like the incarnation of superiority, kinda like was SF2 anime movie Bison you said⦠who look majestic, bigger, stronger, faster, better than you. And on top of that he got fucking magic
Akuma ever feel like a cheap demon Ryu headswap, no air fireball can save him from thatā¦
At least back to SF2 days Bisonās psycho crusher, head stomping with crossed arms or even just have to face Rog-Vega-Sagat(SF1 Final Boss) just to challenge him was hype as fuck
Akuma is just weak at incarnate the ultimate challenge
Gill was good for that
His design is made to hint that can beat you in a power lifting contest, then outrun you in the 100m, then humble you at chess, then fuck your GF before destroy your side of the planet in an explosion of fire, ice, radioactive rainbows and magic wings.
Even his thing of lose on purpose just to test fighters was cool even if a bit twisted, itās like show that heās so much above as level that he didānt give fucks about the W/L in his record, because you wasānt a test for himself anyway.
He know he can easily win, heās just testing you and give you the win like a dad that let his kid āwinā a joke fight as to say āyouāre good!ā lol
Hopefully the Alex win over him fall in that category of fake-loses, because if that can REALLY defeated Gill, we need another new ultimate challenge lol
Iām telling you guys, Nash vs Bison in the end (both die), Nash is sent by Urien (the Illuminati), itās good for both parties (Nash gets his revenge and Shadaloo falls for the Illuminati to rise).
Iād like this better if they made it clearer that thatās the case.
Like if they were like āheās a master of suchandsuch martial artā and he ALSO has Psycho power, that would be a lot better. But as it is, the never seem to mention that he knows martial arts, and they certainly never tell you what it is.
While Iāll be pissed if they kill Nash off again right after bringing him back, this does seem to be the story theyāre setting up.
Regarding the earlier talk about weapon users in Street Fighter - Iām glad that, with the notable exception of Vega in SF2, the series initially went with martial arts users (which even to this day are the majority of Street Fighter universe), and the whole ābrining a weapon to a fist fightā element is toned down
Even in SFIV, which had the biggest character roster in the mainline series to date, only had 5 weapon users - Decapre (built-in gauntlet blades), Cody (knife, pipe, and rocks), Rolento (stck and grenades), Poison (whip), and Vega (handclaw)
So although I appreciate the focus on actually using your fists to inflict damage (which, again, is a case for the majority of the cast, even the likes of Gill do have punches and kicks), I wouldnāt exactly be against somebody like Jiayu (staff) or Xiayu (nunchuks) since those are non-lethal weapons (so closer to Poison rather than anybody else) to bring in some variety in the selection of martial arts that you have in Street Fighter in general
Obviously Satsuki (katana), Aprile (syringe), Santamu (spear) and Fevrier (UZIs) are a no-go though
I canāt think of exactly how Enero would function if they put her in the game (with her only having a loudspeaker and nothing else, I guess sheād have some sound shockwave attacks?), but Mars (being a computer genius/geek) - she could be basically the Spec Ops variation of Sonya Blade, calling drones and shit to inflict damage to her opponents (I donāt know how good a fighter she herself is though)
is the only not-game SF thing that i donāt consider bullshit, was awesome actually, it represent well all characters and the general vibe
Many there even shine more than in any SF game
There Bison chose to NOT use Psycho Power vs both Ryu and Ken, probably my fav version ever of the Dictator
Except that Psycho Power IS a fighting art in the Street Fighter universe. In true egotistical fashion, Bison forged and named his martial art himself. Itās an offshoot that Bison pioneered from whatever fighting art(s) he was studying under whoever his master was. His history is vague in this regard (and will likely remain as such), but Psycho Power is recognized as an official fighting style and Bison has been recognized as an accomplished fighter even without Psycho Power (Spiritual Energy) by a variety of canonical and EU sources through out his history. Bison imbuing his fists with energy is no less āmartial artsyā than Ken imbuing his fists with fire or Ryu with electricity.
What amalgamation of techniques Psycho Power (Fighting Art) is made up of is anyoneās guess, but it certainly has physically oriented skills, techniques, and discipline attached to it. There is nothing in the canon that suggests otherwise.
That would be too simple. Which is why it might be true. However, Iām hoping that Capcom surprise us.
That anime contains my favorite version of every SF2 character. SF5 Dictator is the closest to matching the one from this film. Even the way they initially set up his VT, they wanted to show Bison with and without Psycho Power. However they didnāt follow through completely with this idea. Still turned out great.
Iām pre-loading the cinematic story mode at the moment, because I donāt wanna waste my quota on it come the 1st. Letās see if Capcom will impress me this time with an actual story that makes senseā¦
