The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

.

I think sub category brackets within the Martial artist section would help relieve some of the clutter. Like I had mentioned before, even though some of the characters are rightfully placed there like Ryu, Gen, and Elena for example, they could further be diversified by putting them in a bracket within the martial artists section, but closer to the mystic corner.

You could also apply this to the characters who use weaponry that’s not necessarily “advanced”. Because like you mentioned, a technology can be classified as any tool whether primitive or otherwise. I feel someone like Cody could be classified with someone like Sodom and Ibuki because of the stones and shank he uses.

In fact, we could use Cody’s fighting style to explain my point a bit better. We have 3 kickboxers who each have a different format of the style; Joe, Cody, and Dee Jay.

***Martial Artist (bracket closer to mystic “fighters can sense, or manipulate ki”)
Dee Jay

*Martial Artist (bracket closest to top “fighters don’t manipulate ki, or have an apparent background in it’s use”)
Joe

*Martial Artist (bracket closest to technology “fighters are armed”)
Cody

Wrestlers can follow the same pattern.

*Martial Artist (bracket closer to mystic “fighters can sense, or manipulate ki”)
Zangief (greenhand), Alex (flashchop)

*Martial Artist (bracket closest to top “fighters don’t manipulate ki, or have an apparent background in it’s use”)
R. Mika, E. Honda

*Martial Artist (bracket closest to technology “fighters are armed”)
Birdie, Sodom
**
This would allow for the unarmed styles like Sumo and Boxing, to be differentiated from something like Ninjitsu, or Ansatsuken, but also be used to differentiate between Sagat’s ki based Muay Thai, vs Adon’s non ki based. But we would also have to take into account that some characters who may not have an evident display of ki , but have control of it, (Gen and Makoto for the best examples).

Also, their would be some characters who would uniquely fall into all three sub categories. Ibuki is the perfect example of this because she is trained all across the board; unarmed/ armed/ and ki manipulation.

I also feel we should take into account fighters who have hinted mystic abilities only through story interactions. T.Hawks and Elena’s ability to feel the spirit and nature of person are only given through victory quotes. So while their fighting styles may be purely physical, they themselves have an ability to sense special characteristics about their adversary that other physical fighters may not be so keenly aware of.

So I was watching some Nash footage when an idea struck me: What if Nash and Juri team up either through the Illuminati or independently to take down Bison? The duo has some interesting traits:
-Bison has permanently disfigured them and ruined their lives
-Both take their revenge/anger beyond Bison himself
-Both were given a second chance by a shadowy villain
-They function as foils to a main character (Chun/Juri and Guile/Nash)

Now we just need a third wheel villain to be their Cammy…

That sounds like a good idea. Both are similar, but what I think would make it interesting is their trust between each other is shaky, as both are after their own agenda.

I doubt either would ever agree to that. If they did, Nash would probably try to take her out when the mission is complete. Juri seems like the type Nash would dislike.

Nash as a tight focus on bringing down Bison I can see him teaming up with Juri if it helps accomplish his goals. I also can’t see Nash taking down Juri if they succeed. Juri is the backstabber, remember?

I ship a love triangle between Charlie, Chun and Juri

Am I the only who realizes that Juri doesn’t give a fuck about killing Bison in SF4? Or am I seeing things? Juri even climbed the ladder all the way to the top, and earned a face to face confrontation against an unguarded Bison. She had the perfect opportunity to kill him, the best out of any character, but she did not.

Nash is a pawn for the Illuminati with their backing. He doesn’t need Juri, and Juri certainly did fine on her own in SF4. I don’t see this ‘deadly alliance’ happening. Besides, like someone else said Juri is just not Nash’s type. She’s a mass murderer.

You’re right. I forgot about Juri turning on Bison in SFXT. She is a snake, after all.

I guess it depends on the situation. Nash seems like he’d see Juri as another bad guy given her brief affiliation with SIN and overall demeanor. Juri was playing SIN the whole time, but that probably wouldn’t matter to him. With the way Nash addresses Cammy, he seems to think anyone connected to Bison is scum–even if it was beyond their control. Now Juri was only working with Seth and SIN during her short stint, but SIN is still Shadaloo–which Nash has hated from the beginning.

This makes me look forward to seeing how Nash will address her in SFV.

Didn’t see your post while making mine, Daemos, but I see what you mean. I don’t think she really cares about getting revenge on Bison. It’s one of those things where if it happens, then it happens. If it doesn’t, Juri will just continue her blood lusting behavior elsewhere.

I interpreted Bison’s SSF4 ending as the two definitely fought, but the match failed to reach a decisive end. Juri was counting on Seth to wear down Bison more than he did, and was unable to defeat him. Bison probably left during the fight to appear in Rose/Abel’s SF4 endings. Juri probably can’t take Bison in a fair fight and knows it. In SFV, she probably has a new powerful ally who is set to challenge Bison.

A fight between Bison and Juri would’ve probably caused the SIN base to be destroyed twice over due to how potentially explosive their kis are (they are 2 of the most powerful characters in SF). Yet they both appear to be completely and utterly unscathed after their encounter, with no signs whatsoever of a fight. If Juri really was in it to kill Bison for revenge, then she would’ve fought to the death, but she didn’t. She killed more people in one scene than we saw Bison kill in 30 years. Don’t make her out to be some victim on some moral high ground because she’s not like Chun-Li, Cammy, or even Nash. Juri is just as evil and she just wants to do evil things according to SF4. Vega also experienced a terrible and traumatic tragedy as a child, but that doesn’t make him any less of a violent and evil sociopath in a top position of the world’s biggest criminal organization.

All these things considered, reason would have it that the more probable result of their encounter is a conversation and a mutual understanding of one another. The SFxT appearance while not canon, follows this logic and I firmly believe her SF5 story will maintain her insanity and erase any trace of this idea that she wants ‘revenge because she is a victim’.

*Famitsu: You also announced that the story will be richer this time around. Could you go into more detail on this?

Sugiyama: This time around, we’ve put some real work into the story. We’ve placed it firmly in continuity, and really been thinking hard on how to couple relationships between characters in away that’ll make players go “Oh, so that’s it!” once they play. For example, the Street Fighter Alpha series has kind of felt like an alternate continuity before this, so we want to produce some clarity around that.

Famitsu: Is that why there are so many Alpha characters?

Sugiyama: I can’t go into any detail yet, so please look forward to the release of the game for more on that.*

Sodom still losing–as usual. Even in 2016.

Interesting. After reading that portion of the interview, the more i’m starting to believe that the SF story mode is gonna encompass nearly the entire SF story like from Alpha to now or third strike, and maybe events before and after.

Thanks a lot for this, makes me even more hyped for the story this time around… seems Capcom finally saw the potential SF has for a compelling plot.

So hyped for story mode haha, now more than ever. I don’t care so much about how the interactivity is done, but I want a well told story that is all-encompassing.

And reading between the lines, I’m excited to hear Sodom will eventually return. Mad Gear people will eventually be included, they were already thinking of including him, and he scored well in the popularity polls.

Capcom is really looking to knock the ball outta the park here with the story. I’m glad the story is getting so much attention now.

I can definitely imagine Sodom appearing in the next batch of DLC characters.

JUST DON’T FUCKING JINX IT, CAPCOM

Alpha feeling like a alternate continuity comment is puzzling to me. It’s the only other SF series that put any emphasis on story.

Alternate continuity because of Alpha 3 running parallel to SF2 and overlapping it in the timeline he most likely means.

Anyway Sodom is no longer part of the Mad Gear Gang, and is basically a solo character with roots in the FF series. But I see what they mean about the FF characters needing one another to make sense. Guy is the only one who broke through and crossed over truly.

Maybe until Alpha 3 endings had everyone claiming steak to killing Bison.
