**Roseās encounter with Bison in Alpha 3 no longer happened the way it did. The new canon now makes it clear that Rose fought and killed Bison and then his soul suddenly entered her body (as seen in Roseās SF4 prologue). Iām not quite sure if win quotes are canon, but Rose wouldnāt have defeated Bison if he was indeed more powerful than her.
Isnāt there a tier list though that lists Ingrid as the strongest female character, Rose as the second strongest, and Juri as the third?**
All story tier lists are conjecture and only best guesses based on information available.
Bison III (SF5/SF4) > Bison II (SF2/A3) >>>>>>> Bison I (A1/A2) = Rose.
Iām putting Rose down as equal to A2 Bison but if I was more honest, Iād say Rose was lucky and brave in A2 more than anything, and Bison was so arrogant that the thought that Rose could defeat him was completely foreign to him. He didnāt even bother with spare bodies at the time because he was possibly undefeated up until then. She humbled him, and in turn he realized a chink in his armor and worked out how to stop it from happening again. Heās still arrogant as fuck that he dismisses her in SF4 and lets her live, even though he knows she is the only one with a power that can hinder his own.
Juri is still a baby in the Street Fighter universe, her full potential hasnāt even been reached and look at what sheās accomplished. 1 apperance, beaten Chun-Li, Cammy, Guile, Dolls, Seth (?) and survived vs Bison 1v1. 0 losses without full potential reached. The most powered up weāve seen Juri was in the Juri OVA vs Guile for about 10 seconds in witch she destroyed Guile and an aircraft one kick.
Not necessarily. Defeating someone doesnāt always determine whoās the stronger of the two. Adon beat Sagat in Alpha 2, but he wasnāt above Sagat. Alex beat Gill during the SF3 tournament even though Gillās capabilities should be far beyond anything Alex could ever do. Rose defeated Bison, but that doesnāt have to mean sheās more powerful. Her Soul Power allowed her to tangle with Bison to begin with, so simply putting on a better display of skill combined with her power sealing couldāve given her the upperhand.
I donāt see why they wouldnātāespecially when itās a quote giving us a very specific power comparison. Seth is saying Psycho Power>Soul Power. Nothing in the narrative has ever given us a reason to believe Soul Power was the more powerful version. Also, thereās no tier list.
Granted. But so would the ability to, say, take a sword, and cut through a car with it. But someone who is as skilled with a blade as Ryu is with his fists would be able to do that.
You say āWell, they could always drop their weapon, and then theyād be useless.ā Yes. And Ryu could also break his leg and heād be useless as well. But he wonāt, because heās a martial arts master. Just like a weapon master isnāt going to drop their weapon.
Her accomplishments are arguably not hers, certainly not hers alone at least. Or are you forgetting the prototype FSE in her eye was built by SIN? Her full natural potential isnāt the same as her full potential with the FSE. We donāt know the disparity between her natural and artificial chi potential but based on her own reactions to the FSE and how she perceives it, Iād say the FSE is making a huge difference.
The FSE for some reason is missing in her SF5 appearance. So we may gauge her true strength soon enough.
Lol, ok, she fought hand-to-hand in Final Fight and Iād rather she did the same in SF4. I wish they would emphasize her wrestling background.
I also think the riding crop is more of a spectacle choice than a weapon in her case (I have never been hit with a riding crop, though, so Iām not sure about how effective/advantageous it would be in a fight, it probably hits harder than it looks).
Face it Juri fans, she was portrayed as a psychopath who can handle the likes of Guile, Cammy and Chun-Li simply because Capcom was trying to promote their new *evil, female *character and hype her existence to milk their fans. They tried to do the exact same thing with Viper when SFIV was first released (her wrecking Cammy, being a top level agent that can mess with one of the richest organizations around and kidnap the wife of their boss with ease etc.) and ditched the idea later on when they didnāt find what they were looking for. I clearly remember the officials said they expected Viper to be the most popular/played new character in SFIV and was surprised when Abel took that position instead (although that may have changed post Vanilla).
Juri is the same. Sheās enjoying immense popularity and this in turn is making her strong in the lore. If she didnāt enjoy the popularity she does now, she would be Makoto-tier at best, IMO.
To me Juriās scrub level till she gets that marble out of her eye and actually fights with her own abilities. Hyping her up is dumb when sheās got an overpowered plot device in her eye socket.
Still not the same. What you described requires a skilled weapon wielder and a skilled blacksmith. Ryuās ability is purely from his skills. if two weapon users are evenly matched and one them has the better forged weapon the result of battle will come down to craftsmanship. You can be the best race car driver in the world but if you have a shitty car you arenāt going win.
Thatās no argument against her though. Itās like you are saying Ryu or Chun-li will always be scrub level until they get rid of their blatant plot armor. Itās silly. Characters are who they are.
I just personally donāt consider characters like Viper and Juri serious contenders when they are sporting blatant enhancements. Obviously they can wreck characters with them, but without it, who knows. I find characters like that annoying as hell. Especially when they think theyāre such hot shit like Juri.
I like those quotes that Akuma and Gouken have against Viper where they basically tell her to leave her toys behind and fight for REAL.
As I said earlier, itās a street fighter and it inherently has no rules. Every fighter comes with all their powers at the ready. Science and technology are definitely a powerful asset to have as we have seen, so why not. To each their own.
My pet peeve are characters like Ingrid because cosmic entities or forces of nature should not have a place in a street fight. But alas, iām contradicting myself now because there are no rules to a street fight.
That depends heavily on how ki interacts with objects in Street Fighter. We know ki can be projected beyond the body of the user. But can it be tranferred through a held object? If so, then the quality of the object may be irrelevant. Itās not uncommon in fiction for a master to be able to pick up an ordinary branch of the ground and wield it as an indestructible weapon by channeling their energy through it. The object itself serves as little more than a focus for the userās techniques.
Is that the case in Street Fighter? No way to be sure, because SF doesnāt spend enough time describing how itās ki works. But given that characters like Eagle can golf swing energy blasts away with his little sticks, I wouldnāt be surprised if it was.
But, again, if youāre fighting a cosmic entity, itās not really a street fight anymore.
You seem to be willing to classify ANY combat as a street fight. Two scientists blasting each other with ray guns? Thatās a street fight! Two tanks clashing in a field? Street fight! No rules!
No. Your reading comprehension betrays you. Read again.
Capcomās definition of a martial artist or a fighter is very broad and open minded. Their definition of a street fight is just the same. We have characters that throw rocks, knives, kunais, shurikens, salt, cans, banana peels, and fucking basketballs. We have high heel shoes that act like flamethrowers, and we have characters that are quite literally living weapons, *several of them *actually. FANG is a scientist/assassin that shoots poison in both liquid and gaseous form OUT OF HIS HANDS. Poison that sizzles an average person into a fine powder. And youāre getting pissy over ray guns? Please. Also tanks? Really? Thatās enough hyperbole for you today.
A character that integrates firearms as part of their fighting style IS perfectly within the realm of possibility that Capcom has given us. Street Fighter is NOT about trained martial artists only, itās about fighters from all walks of life - All seeking to become better and/or get ahead in whatever way they deem permissible. They all take different paths to get there, some cheat, some are honorable, some use weapons and some donāt. Deal with it.
Also while a street fight has NO intrinsic rules, every fighter adheres to their own set of rules. This isnāt MY opinion, this is an observation of Capcomās approach to character design and the lore itself. Nothing I said so far goes against the established reality of the Street Fighter universe.
Youāre the one arbitrarily putting a line in the sand and saying these weapons are okay and these are not. Iām saying who cares, a weapon is a weapon is a weapon and there is obviously no mold for what a street fighter character can be anymore. If a fighter is introduced that utilizes pistols in their moveset, the only thing I will care about is if they have inspired gameplay and their overall design/lore. From a canonical point of view, such a fighter is perfectly within the boundaries of the universe. In fact, he would be completely ordinary.
Bear in mind by the way, that I personally would prefer less weapons, most of them at least in Street Fighter. I also donāt want cosmic entities and forces of nature at all. But they are in the canon now, so they are Street Fighter.
