Just put a box on a stick with a rope tied to it…then put a sign pointing towards it that says “Death Match”…then, when Akuma goes under the box…pull the rope so it takes out the stick.
Well…it was never to the death since akuma never actually killed anyone in combat…well very little. It was usually just people getting in his way. Who wouldn’t put up a fight anyway.
Honestly? Other than Sagat? Ken or Bison. Ken went from being a 1-dimensional palette swap to generic rival to a far more interesting character than Ryu as a guy balancing being a top-tier world warrior with being a family man and integrating both into one whole. That is way more ripe for interesting story-telling.
Similarly, Bison went from slightly weird martial arts generic boss-guy…to body-hopping psychic Cthulhu-monster that still maintains a bizarre warriors code and flexibility with his minions that hints at a strange sense of honor mixed with sociopathic disinterest in/disconnection from the underlying goals and motivations of those he commands.
Birdie hasn’t really come a long way for any better. Sure he’s not a criminal anymore, but he’s still a loser. I hope that once Guile gets reintroduced with Nash there’s some development with him.
Naw… That guy left a long while ago. I reckon though that since he can’t take over this thread he’s taking over at Capcom Unity as far as I could tell. Heh.
I would say Alex has come a long way from where he started. He seems like just a typical brawler from NY who just happened to get caught up with Shadaloo’s plans, to being the successor to Gill’s final plans. I really want to see what they have in store for his story once SFVI comes out (assuming they ever make one and don’t retcon that aspect of the game.)
I like Chun-Li’s development. At first she was just a cop looking to avenge her father, but now her focus is on instilling discipline, strength, and character into the new generation. Bringing down Shadaloo is still important, but that’s because she’s been fighting against the organization for many years. Her Super SF4 ending showed that everything she stood for was far more important to her than revenge by that point in the story.
I just presumed Sakura and Karin’s stage because of the clock and arched ceiling. Plus I’m pretty sure their stage is a train station and Birdie’s stage is a rail yard.
None the less, its interesting that the concept of the ruins resemble more of an Egyptian background (camels in the drawing) more than Aztec. The only Egypt stage in SF belongs to Urien and Gill, so I think they maybe hiding the fact that the concept for the stage could be for Urien.
He also had an Aztec ruins based stage in SF3TS so that could fit with him as well.
Since Birdie’s article is up again, I just want to reiterate that I wish they didn’t use the main SF5 art for that section of his article. The art style is so drastically different, and I’m sure they have art by Kiki of him in his main outfit(because they seriously seem to have Kiki art for EVERYTHING, even groups of background characters).
TBH as much i kinda dislike the style used for the official artwork, i’m not a Kiki fan either, for my personal tastes it pass from average to cringeworthy (but he have often a good chara design vision)
My 2cents: tell Bengus to take his time and get his shit together and produce official artworks on the level of his old self
Or pass the artwork part to Yoshihara, he’s great and wok very fast (first pic was few hours after Alex new design announcement)
