The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

Quite positive that after the cinematic story mode release they’ll add/sell the wrestling ring stage featured in R. Mika’s art, the dojo one from Ryu’s art and that chinese palace from F.A.N.G’s, those hinted area transitions like the cave in the Forgotten Waterfall stage and night/different time versions of most of them.

Don’t forget the desert stage from Rashid’s art.

Yeah, the desert stage is the one I’m most intrigued about.

That glorious submarine is another reference to the SFII era Shadaloo base designed by Akiman.

I think this contraption here would have been one of been one of the “shaming mechanisms” in the game, kinda like the noodles. It’s supposed to be a sushi making machine that was scraped for the Kanzuki stage and someone is depicted as being sandwiched in it. Don’t quote me on this though.

This one describes itself.

So the giant bones in the NZ stage are dinosaur ones

Liked both Haggar and Honda cameo, hope to see more stage cameo as possible

It can also be current china one in different version, but tbh it’s the ONLY stage that don’t need upgrades

They may use the idea for that Fang stage

never liked dinosaur to even in SF4 from SFxTekken… nice robo on background om stage… I guess SF 5 was initially has big expectation with those imaginative and broad concepts…

It made sense in SFxTK because Tekken has dinosaurs.

But then they added that stage to USF4, and it’s just stupid, because SF didn’t.

I ever liked wacky stuff or crazy animals on the background, but go with that kind of “sci-fi” stuff kinda betray SF art style, the should keep the classic crazy nation stereotype thing

Example if you want a dinosaur stage, do a Scotland stage set on Loch Ness Lake, and fun bagpipe kilt dudes lol

I’m tired of the whole shitty space ships, futuristic bases, dinosaurs and generic shit… old school world tour feel best feel

Only problem is SFV is kinda hit and miss at that, some stages are great some miss the pointthat make SF stages memorables

Taking the nation ones to give an example

Great- Russian stage is ridicolous good mix of Russian stereotypes, Wrestling and Zangieftudes in a way that’s awesome, i wish more stages had that power as stages and as power up of the chara design of the host character (Gief) itself

Karin stage is great too, it mix very very well scenic design, traditional Japan vibe and love for european/western snob style

Good- China is good but kinda cheat. It’s the only they left “unlocked” so we see the restaurant expansion and the cutscenes that give it kinda unfair advantage. If was limited like others will still be one of the best and well made, but not so memorable

Almost good- Brazil and UK are not bad, but definitely not incredibly memorable. They give some right vibe (Brazil on particular), but both kinda under-delivered, probably these NPCs… i’m not against crazy NPCs but they need to help the scenic design, not just be there… take the NY/Metro City stage, there characters make the stage stronger.
Brazil have that fun fruit shop dude and his feud with the toucan, but the samba girls part is weak as fuck, good idea bad execution.
UK similar… red jackets are ok, punks weak but make sense, the cricket grandpa is just there to be cringeworthy

Ruined- India. As scenic design is even good, and the elephant ftw. But bad execution (the fucking color fog is so overdone there) and ALL THESE FUCKING NPCS kill it forevah.
I hope there is an alt version without all these dbags

Is this guy prototype Necalli? I don’t remember seeing him…

I thought it was the new deejay…what with the orange pants and smile. I thought they gave him a new hairdo and didn’t want to make him black but blue for a change of pace.

I know he was bad in SF4, but did he really have to get beaten black and blue over it?

Yeah… its from Kiki interview Page

So Necalli is meant to be an Akuma replacement…

Not only that, but he’s supposed to have more of an impact than both Akuma and M. Bison. The concept of Necalli is a “mysterious character to replace Akuma”, so they used references from ancient human cultures, and aliens (ancient aliens?..), which eventually lead them to look to South America as a basis. Therefore, in order to make the character more impressive and popular than Akuma they pushed to make the character more superhuman…

This is one thing that I totally hate in the later “Street Fighter” games:

The series started with regular martial artists who had some flashy or exaggerated special moves (fireballs, teleportation), but the characters themselves were still human.

“Street Fighter II” wasn’t so bad either:
The freakiest character was Blanka, but it turned out he’s a human being instead of an actual monster and his look was merely the result of him growing up in the jungle.
And M. Bison, the guy with the Psycho Power: It looks like this power wasn’t that much more supernatural than the fireballs.

But then they invented more and more bullshit: Fighting techniques that basically take over your mind and make you a killing machine, soul swapping, clones, robots, artificial beings and now we have an actual physical god.

What’s next? Will it turn out that the Street Fighter tournaments are really a competition between the realms and if the bad guys win 10 in a row, they will merge their world with Earth?

Outstanding!

Now the TVTropes SF1 page is finished unless they release some Kiki images of Ryu, Ken and Birdie in their main costumes.

Couldn’t possibly agree harder. They just can’t seem to help themselves from adding SOME new bullshit in each game.

Which sucks, cause they clearly still know how to make cool martial arts characters as well. But they can never resist adding some kind of stupid monster or robot as well.

Honestly, I blame Tekken. That shit’s always been a part of Tekken, and SF and Tekken just can’t seem to resist ripping each other off.
