The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

Keep Bison mysterious. If we need villain origins, we need Vega and Juri the most, since their trauma is/was the main reason they got into fighting. There’s no deep, psychological reason for Bison to do what he does.

Exactly. Not all villains need to be fallen angels to justify their evil. Some villains are evil for the sake of evil, because ‘evil is a good career choice, it has a lot to offer’.

So, considering that pretty much all the main fighting game series go on the way "Everybody is fucked unless [event_name] happens,

(disclosure:

  • Mortal Kombat: Earthrealm is severely damaged as the result of Shao Kahn’s invasion and the war against Shinnok, many lives and souls gone and lost, forever to be left in the Netherrealm, more shit to come along with Onaga and/or the Liu Kang+Kitana duo

  • TEKKEN: the entire world is engulfed in the flames of war between the two biggest corporate conglomerates out there, which are G Corporation and Mishima Zaibatsu, assen throughout Tekken 6 and the several trailers of Tekken 7

  • Guilty Gear: the world is at the brink of destruction by the divine forces of Valentine’s from the Backyard, there’s also a secret society planning to put its “plan” into motion to pretty much seize the control of, again, the world via corruption and manipulation of external factors

  • Street Fighter: Shadaloo holds the entire world in its balls with its influence and corrupt nature of governments))

Exactly how fucked is The Street Fighter universe? Is there really salvation after the Disappearance of Shadaloo? Its deeds doubtfully can be undone at this point

The only way I would accept a Bison backstory moment is if he gives a speech that reveals a truly tragic backstory, and then as we see someone reacting to it, he stops half way and laughs, thus revealing he was either stalling for time or mocking a particular character (Guile, Chun Li) and capping it off with “I am Bison, I am eternal and I will be your death. THAT is all you need to know mwahahahah” clenches flaming fist

I do like depth in villains, but some work and stay scarier if there isn’t a lot about them that humanizes them. As Daemos said, he’s practically the devil, mystery keeps him terrifying and inhuman

Vega does not love Cammy, however he don’t want to kill people that are beautiful in his opinion. What includes Cammy and Chun.

Funfact, Vega thinks he is beautiful and every woman stomps on him that he is either ugly or looks like a little boy.

Genius.

I would enjoy back story for Bison while, at the same time, keeping him a monster. That we learn about Bison does NOT need to humanize him and it probably shouldn’t. Him being evil from birth (born under a bad star, as he was originally conceived…er…ripped off) works fine for me.

Now I have a theory.

Bison fights against the finalist in SF2, lose, Akuma appears, Raging Demon, holds his speak, disappears, Bison stands up because the Raging Demon failed AGAIN!
Weakned from the fight and the RD Bison tries to escape but Cammy,Chun and Guile start to hunt him with the help of Ryu and Ken.
This leads to the hunt, he gets cornered, more injured and choose the hitlerway to escape the situation. Bison hiddes his Soul in Cammy and waits for his scientiest to make a new Body ready.

This would actually agree with the discussions on the fansite, they discussed quite a time after the OVA’s poped up and ended up with this as the most possible ending.

I could now also start something about the Juri OVA but then would Daemos disagree with me again. =)

The only thing I want elaborated upon:

Elaboration complete

OH MY GOD, they actually referenced that!?

Also just because I may disagree with you does not mean you should not share your theories/point of view, and just because I disagree with you doesn’t necessarily mean I am right or that you are wrong even.

It’s not only my theory. A lot other people were discussing about it. The cousin of my gf send me the link to the website after our last holidays in japan.
Funny how I can read japanese but can’t spell a single word correct.

Anyways.
The OVA’s heated some old SF2 topics up,mostly to the end of the tournament. The finalists haven’t changed. It was either Ken or Cammy.

There’re some other points.
About the Juri OVA for example.
It’s known that the Dolls as Unit are a really powerfull force, however if you’re able to take them out one by one or in pairs they’re still capcable fighters, but not as overpowered as usuall.
It is sure to asume that Juri defeated the Dolls one by one and didn’t fight them as full unit.
While Cammy had to fight all 12 at once, in the end of Alpha3.

The next point would be,if she is really that powerfull, why didn’t she just made short work with Cammy and Guile? She has known Cammy wouldn’t attack the Dolls and that Cammy and Guile could take her down together. Using Juni and Juli as shield wasn’t stupid. She basicly avoided a open fight with them, to make sure she would finish her mission.

The next point would be the SFIV tournament and everyone and their mother is sure, Cammy could have won the rematch against Juri. After Cammy has won she must have realised that revenge wouldn’t make anything better. It’s more safe to say that Cammy let Juri the choice. The location of the Dolls or the next cementary.

Saying the Rival Fight is non-canon is no argument. Every Rival Fight since Alpha1 happend at one point,at least the fighters had their chat.(Like Bison and Sagat in Alpha3).

What is basicly the same. There is nothing that says that this didn’t happen after the final fight in SF2. Maybe Akuma didn’t appear, he never official showed up in a tournament.

Regarding the discarded stages for Sagat and Blanka (I know I’m late, bear with me, long week), I think there is a simpler and probably more accurate explanation: probably there were plans originally to have character-specific stages, thus the jungle stage with Blanka’s plane crash, and that (beautiful) reimagination of Sagat’s original stage… but at some point, they didn’t consider viable having a stage for each character, so they scraped some (Sagat’s) and made others more generic, like Blanka’s, so they could not be easily tied to them.

That is reasonably true. Still a total waste.

…or when they do ad Blanka they also add the plane; and when they add utterly non-shadowlaw Sagat they could have a fitting stage waiting.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but those are early Colonnial codex. Necalli resembles the most to the late classic Mesoamerican codex from the Nahuatl legendarium, where ancient Aztec demigods look more like this:

I think you’re confused: those designs were Street Fighter IV designs. We’re talking about already missed opportunities, sadly.

@Magegg Ah, good thing you’re here. Does the word ‘getepe’ mean anything?

Not that I ever heard.

To refresh a little the conversation about Necalli, I’d remind everyone a couple things we’ve said before in the vanilla Plot discussion thread:

  • Reference to Nahuatl word is only on the English version (“Mask of Tlalli” is “Taichi no Kamen” in the Japanese version), so most likely introduced by Capcom of America in order to appeal more to the Latin American audience.
  • Yes, Aztec warriors wore dreadlocks. At least the ones of highest ranks.
  • What I was trying to say in my previous point is that Necalli’s design, if it had some Aztec influence, would be more likely taken from the Late Classic Codex, which feature more badass and colorful character designs and they’re the best known in the world because of that. All we Aztec fans know Colonnial codexes are garbage, they’re a bastardization of the classic Aztec pictographic style after they took influence from the Spanish art. It’s basically the “Ameri-manga” from Mesoamerican codex, LOL:
