The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

Those references were put it in by another user who first crafted this Aztec theory. In the old thread we had an actual Mexican user who cross checked the ‘definitions’ and ‘connections’ of the his special names and showed how they have been greatly exaggerated by the author.

Necalli wears no head gear, no feathers, no mask, and makes zero reference to Huitzilopochtli directly. He looks like an ancient brute warrior that could be have been from one of many Ancient civilizations. The patterns on his clothing are generic, they can be Greek, Aztec, Mayan, etc. Furthermore, Aztec warriors do not have dreadlocks, let alone ones that dangle to their feet. Dreadlocks were something reserved for the priest class of Aztec society (and really hair like that is counterintuitive for a soldier). The stage in Necalli’s art is *not *Templo Mayor, this fact alone punches a huge gaping hole into that author’s well put together theory about Necalli.

Yes, some aspects of Necalli are clearly inspired or taken from the Aztecs. Like his name and the word Tlalli in his special ‘mask of Tlalli’ which means Earth, his TC ‘sacrificial altar’ could also allude to Aztec human sacrifice culture. These are extremely superficial though, and in true Capcom fashion are just meant to solidify his stereotype - Which isn’t specifically of an Aztec warrior, rather of a generic and nebulous ‘Ancient Warrior’ who invokes several different ideas of what an ancient warrior looks like. But anything beyond this is pure conjecture.

If Necalli is a meant to be only an Aztec warrior then he was poorly researched and designed in this aspect (See Kotal Kahn from MKX on how to design an Aztec warrior). We will know soon enough, but Capcom will likely keep it vague.

Wow, thanks for the explanation.

One thing that boggles is the fact that both Ryu and Ken (and Sakura) are using “Hadoken”, but Gouken and Akuma use Gou Hadoken (or just Gou Hado in Akuma’s case)

Does the " Gou" part imply they simply use stronger versions of certain moves (Gou Shoryu) than Ryu and Ken usually do?

According to the wiki, Gouken’s Gohadoken is spelt with ‘剛’ (Strong), while Akuma’s is ‘豪’ (Great). Ryu and Ken do use watered down techniques developed by Gouken. Honestly it makes no sense that the original arts are called Gou Hadouken and Gou Shoryuken. They were invented first! If anything Ryu and Ken’s versions should be called (watered down) hadoken and (watered down) shoryuken.

So, any estimates for how long FANG has been with Shadowloo? If he’s been doing experiments with them for long enough, he could be pretty important to Cammy’s story on account of the Dolls.

Spoiler

And I swear to god, if they make him Chun’s father somehow…

Spoiler

I hope to God they don’t make him Chun-Li’s father, but if her father has something to do with her story or shadaloo, maybe it would make for an interesting plot. Father is still alive but is just a guinea pig for shadaloo experiments.

Same could be true with the dolls. I mean, it would be interesting to see what kind of experiments F.A.N.G. would do on them. Would it enhance combat, or turn them into monsters that makes it hard for Cammy to fight?

The wiki correctly states that The Ties That Bind is not canon. None of the cartoons, comics, movies, or OVAs are canon.
Decapre’s ending doesn’t imply that she hadn’t already fought Cammy.
Juri does not meet Bison in her ending. Also, if Bison hadn’t already fought Juri, he should have no reason to know that she has the Feng Shui Engine, but low and behold he comments immidiately on how Seth built her eye. We can only assume Bison fought Juri, was surprised by how strong she was, and then left, realizing she might throw a monkey wrench in his plans if he doesn’t change things up.
Akuma needs to claim the cub because Gouken sealed away the Satsui No Hado. This implies Akuma has a way to unseal it. Earlier, Akuma didn’t need Ryu, because he still had the Satsui No Hado within, so all Akuma sought to do was tempt him into succumbing, nothing more, nothing less.

You just said that everything Daemos is build his arguments on are non canon.

Basicly the only Movie I know that is canon is the SF2 animated Movie, as far as I know it’s a prologe to the happenings in the game.

This also means that Juris OVA isn’t canon.

Hm maybe I should mentoi that I’m checking regulary a japanese street fighter fansite and translate ,as canon flagged writen storys for each character, them from japanese into german. They don’t even have strange situations.

For example in Cammys SFIV Story defeats Cammy Juri in their rematch in the tournament, in Juris Story happens the same just from her view.

The only strange thing is the SF2 ending. the last two remaining fighters are Ken and Cammy, in Kens Story he wins the match and fights Bison and Cammys wins Cammy the match and fights Bison. After Bison gets defeated shows Akuma in both Storys up,kills Bison, holds a little speach and then disappears.

Hahahahahahahahahah

I have nothing to base this on, but I theorized that he’s a long term Shadaloo scientist and after Sagat’s leave and shifting around of Shadaloo operations, he made some sort of weapon and/or breakthrough, got a major promotion from Bison and enhances himself, began to prove himself, got more promotions until he was deemed viable to take Sagat’s spot.

Confirmation that the spider charts are indeed gameplay based (and not story based): http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2015/dec/22/not-sure-which-street-fighter-5-character-you-want-play-yet-combofiends-advice-can-help-you-pinpoint-your-perfect-match/

Necalli is 4 for health, Ryu is 3. Both had 1000 HP in Beta 3.

Karin is the only 5/5 in ‘techniques’. If technique means the amount of moves, Nash (3) should easily be a 4 or even 5 considering the various command normals and target combos he has. Both have four special moves. Also their V-Triggers are complex, unlike some of the other straightforward ones.

It was stated technique only refers to special moves, not normals. With her rekka Karin easily takes the cake with 5 in technique. Complexity isn’t a determining factor.

This is getting confusing. Let’s keep the spider chart discussions to the general discussion thread.

It is definitely not canon.

Beat me to it, Fatal! Damn you!

I still think it’s about time that we had Bison’s backstory revealed. They should tell us where he’s from, at least. Also, is he wanting to conquer the world for the sake of it, or is there something deeper?

From what I’ve seen, revealing the backstory of a mysterious character usually does them more harm than good.

I am afraid it is you who are mistaken, about a great many things.

TTTB, Juri OVA, and the 3 SF2 Aftermath OVAs (Viper, Chun-Li, Sakura) are all animations produced/conceived/written/acted/directed for and by Capcom and Yoshinori Ono with the intent of setting and supplementing directly the SF4 story. One can say that without them, the story of SF4 would not only be incomplete but it would utterly make no sense as the entire main story arc of SF4 is built around ideas explored first in TTTB. Now I could go into detail (and I have before many times here but the old thread has since been deleted  ) about how the general story arc and specific stories rely on the SF4 OVAs to be complete. Instead I will direct you to Chun-Li’s SSF4 prologue.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8DBpMP9i-g

In her prologue Chun-li directly refers to the Juri OVA (‘The Juri Incident’) and TTTB (‘Ever since he managed to escape’) as canonical events that happened in SF4’s timeline. She does this because they are in fact, canon. This among several other prologues cements this idea further. The SF wiki cherry picks the Juri OVA as canon and dismisses the TTTB’s canonicity, which is quite hypocritical considering the Juri OVA takes place after TTTB but before SF4’s tournament. It’s like reading a book then deciding the first 5 chapters are not canon and the canon story starts from chapter 6. It makes zero sense.

One of our members has kindly put together this pair of videos to make sense of the chronological order of events of SF4. I highly recommend you watch them.

None of the other comics, cartoons, and movies are canon like you said though. Because those were licensed out in name only for their third party projects. Capcom may and has adopted some ideas from the Expanded Universe but they remain uncanon until they are adopted. The SF4 Story OVAs were made for and by Capcom to be released alongside and inside the SF4 games. The SF4 animations which include the prologues and endings, share the same staff of directors, voice actors, writers, etc. across all games. These things are not coincidence, because they are SF4.

Decapre’s reaction to Cammy in her ending suggests that this was indeed their first meeting. If the rival match did happen, Cammy would be dead.

We don’t know, but he was likely a part of Shadaloo for a long time and moved up the ranks when there was a vacancy. I don’t think he is the one who was behind Cammy and the Dolls though. However, the SF5 opening matched him with Rashid, so I think he may be experimenting on Azam.

And don’t even joke about that. My head would explode if it were true. :scream:

Speaking of Cammy, it seems that her relationship with Vega is going to be more nuanced in SFV. They should finish up what they started in Alpha 3. I’m still certain that he actually does love her (or at least care for her), but he doesn’t want to admit it.

Not for the sake of it, but for the sake of Psycho Power. The more Psycho Power he can harness, the powerful he becomes. The kind of power he could potentially attain would make him into a god, and possibly do away with the laws of physics as we have seen him be able to do with some Psycho Power. Ingrid, if we were to take her seriously for just one moment, also implies that Soul/Psycho Power is divine.

Psycho Power feeds on negative thoughts and feelings (from within and without the user). The more anger, hate, and fear there is, the more the power grows. So Bison arms the world with weapons, feeds it with drugs, corrupts its politics, threatens it with WMDs, and just terrorizes it with his organization. The deeper the world plunges into despair the more Psycho Power he will be able to manipulate (and the better body he will need). His ambition is all very personal, and Shadaloo is just a means to an end. He’s kinda like the Street Fighter version of Satan actually. Although like Johnson said, I prefer to keep the origin mysterious. Revealing the origins of great villains (See Darth Vader and Malificent) IMO ruins their character.

I’m also not sure Vega loves or can love even anyone other than himself.

Personally, I like my villains to have a raison d’etre. You can only keep them a mystery for so long. You have to flesh them out somewhere down the line.

Also, considering that Vega lost his mother when he was young, it seems to me that his feelings for Cammy might be a reflection of his guilt from not saving his mother from his stepfather.
