硬派 な 空手娘 。 実家 は 「 竜胆館 ( りんどうかん ) 」 という 空手道場 の 名門 だ が 、 師範 であ っ た 父 は すでに 亡 く、兄 は 武術 の 才能 が ない こと を 理由 に サラリーマン に なっ た ため 、 道場 は いまや すっかり すたれ て しまっ た 。 その まっ た その 現状 を 憂い 、 実家 の 道場 を 復興 さ せよ う と 全国 に 名 を 売り に 出る 。 男 まさり の 性格 で、 口調 は バリバリ の 土佐弁 まだ 年若く背 も 低 いが 、 黒帯 を しめ て いる こと から も その 実力 は 明らか 。 エンディング で は 、 竜胆館 の 最年少師範 として 道場 に 活気 を 取り もどす 。 白い胴着 に 首 ハチマキ 、 黒髪 の 日本少女 という 外見 から 、 ゲーム の 発売前 に は 「 リュウ の 妹説 」 が まことしやか に 流れ て い た。

ブラジル 出身 の 熱血少年。日系人 の 祖父 に しつけ られ た ため 一応 の ところ は 礼儀正しい 。 格闘技大会 で 見 た ケン に あこがれ 、 弟子入り を 志願。ケン を 「 師匠 」 と 呼び その 闘い ぶり を 懸命 に マネ て いる が 、 攻守 とも に はるか およば ない。 ス ポーツ 全般 が 得意 で 、 大学 で は バスケ を やっ て おり 、 登場 デモ で は バスケットボール を 投げる。 エンディング で は ケン の 思惑 どおり 、 リュウ に 押 しつけ られ て しまっ た が それでも 「 師匠 」 の 言い つけ にしたがい 、 リュウ から ダウン を 奪う ため 奮 闘 する。 「 たとえ 今日負け て も 明日 は 勝つ 」 が 信条。 いつか は オリジナル の 必殺技 を 持つ の が 夢。

設定 は 前作 と 同じ だ が 、 最終 ボス は 師匠 の ケン に 変更 さ れ た 。

ケン の 押しかけ弟子 と なっ て から 1 年。 いよいよ 全米 バトル トーナメント に 出場 する こと に なっ た が 、 師匠 の ケン に 言わ せれ ば まだ 実力 が 足り ない。そこで、 ケン を 納得 さ せる だけ の 独自 の 格闘 スタイル を 会得 する ため、 武者修行 を 開始 する。 最後 は 見事大会 に 優勝 …… という の は 夢 で、 現実 に は 予選落ち だっ た。 と する と、 最終 ボス の ギル を 倒し た の も すべて 夢 ?

Ken is his best friend, which would explain why he’d do what it takes to help Ryu.

Sagat is Ryu’s rival. It’s not like he got in the way of a Psycho Crusher or anything; he just went against the idea of fighting a manipulated Ryu.

Sakura has no actual connection with Ryu outside of her idolization of him and a picture he unwillingly was in with her. That didn’t stop her from standing in the way of Bison, who could’ve incinerated her into pieces had he felt like it.

Besides that, her SF4 win quote to Sagat implies there’s attraction on her end, anyway.

And this is why I find Karin annoying. I read this, and the only issue or flaw I see in Karin’s character is that she lost to Sakura one time. She’s considered perfect in every other way, and has enough experience and training under her belt to lead me to believe that her loss to Sakura was more of a fluke or mistake on Karin’s part than any credit to Sakura. It’s almost like a poorly written parody of the Ryu/Sagat rivalry with all the meaning, character progression, and consequences removed.

Wait, Sean went to college? How old is he, anyway? I only had him in the 18-20 range. And, I guess this confirms his entire story in 3S to be non-canon?

Nope, her flaw is being a perfectionist. Not that she lost and seeks a rematch, that’s just a consequence of her perfectionism, which is clearly a flaw.

I’m getting senile and I can’t remember if I’ve read here or somewhere else the description of the image below, which states that after winning a tournament/some fights in a small village, local people offered the company of this young girl to the embarrassed Ryu as a reward.

But being a perfectionist is only a compelling character issue when they have to go out of their way to be perfect. Karin just winds up perfect and doesn’t fail often enough to make it clear that her perfectionism is a personality trait rather than a result of always winning.

I don’t have a problem with perfectionist characters: See Vega and Dudley for how that is supposed to work. Vega is a colossal narcissist who wears a mask to protect his “perfect” face. By wearing the mask, Vega shows awareness that he CAN fail and works to avoid failure. Dudley became a champion boxer to recoup his family’s losses after Dudley Sr.'s business went under, so he has to be a boxing perfectionist because everyone is counting on him. Karin never shows any awareness of being able to fail and has no motivation to fight beyond “upholding the family name”, which is a load of crap since they just fight for sport rather than as a profession like Makoto or Laura. She walks around with a “better than you” attitude and none of the other characters challenge that. Hell, half of the winquotes against her are some version of “Wow, you’re strong and enlightened! I wouldn’t win a rematch!”, and she hasn’t officially beaten anyone to earn that respect. The only character I think she has canonically defeated is Birdie (maybe Sakura, but after a rematch), which isn’t much when you’re put alongside Dhalsim, Bison, Ryu, and Oro.

相変わらず 「 暇 じゃ の ~ 」 と 退屈し きっ て い た オロ の 興味 を 引 い た の は 「 謎 の 組織 」 と 「 拳 を 極 めし 者 」 の ウワサ だっ た 。 またも 退屈 しのぎ の ため に 、 両者 を 捜す旅 に 出る 。 本作 で は ついに 両腕 を 使用 する 技 も 解禁 。 まだまだ 気 は 若く 、 いぶき に 対戦 を 挑ま れ 「 ナンパ じゃ なかっ た の か 」 と ガッカリ する 場面 も。

I never said that they are in love, stop making things up. I only said that if Sakura risked her life for Ryu, not anybody else, that must mean there’s some sort of connection between the two, at least from the Sakura side, therefore it’s not entirely stupid to dismiss when people ship them together, where as I recall no such deeds from Chun’s side yet people are going crazy over having Chun and Ryu paired

Besides, Ken is Ryu’s closest friend since childhood - kinda obvious Ken would risk his life and sacrifice himself if needed

Sagat, however, has honor. He knows fighting a possessed Ryu is not the way he would like their match to go, because he wouldn’t be fighting Ryu - he’d be fighting something else in a body of Ryu

So these are three completely different cases

So Oro’s bio doesn’t elaborate on his defeat of Ryu, either. I’m actually a bit surprised neither Ryu or Oro’s bio go into detail about their battle.

Oro didn’t really fight Ryu iirc. He just found Ryu and decided “Hey, this guy looks powerful enough for me to train!”

The consensus awhile back was that Oro knocked Ryu out of the tournament, but took note of his ability while fighting him. Makes sense because I can’t think of anyone else outside of Urien that would be able to beat Ryu. The only issue there is Alex won the tournament, which means he would’ve had to have fought Oro at some point. The old guide suggested that Oro beat Ryu, saw no one else worthy of fighting and ditched the tournament altogether.
