Well, when you have a T.Hawk title in Super Street Fighter IV that says “Got a Girlfriend,” Ibuki mentions “girlfriend” when she defeats T.Hawk, T.Hawk says “my darling Julia” in his SSFIV prologue, he also mentions “my beloved” in one of his Versus Mode quotes and even the Street Fighter World Warrior Encyclopedia (from Mr. Moylan) says “lover” in both T.Hawk’s and Juli’s bios…those terms seem WAY too intimate! Those are terms of affection and endearment! It just doesn’t seem very platonic to me.

To sidestep breaking a character to make a ship work (character chemistry and compatibility issues), you can put the relationship on a character that’s just a complete cipher…ala Juli. We don’t really know anything about her. She doesn’t have an established character like Ryu. Everybody already has pre-conceived notions of what he’s already like. He’s got more of a history. Juli is a blank slate. We know very little about who she was before she was kidnapped and brainwashed. The Shadaloo stuff doesn’t tell us much about her. Heck, even the Udon stuff doesn’t tell us much about her as an individual (non-canon or not).

I just read SF Unlimited 4. There’s some interesting stories that I hope are explored further.

After Tetsu takes Ryu to some cave, Ryu finds Gouken alive. Ryu thinks it’s an impostor and attacks him. Gouken doesn’t want to fight but has to make Ryu believe it really is him (palm strikes!). Ryu goes down.
Ryu wakes up in a room where Gouken greets him and they have a reunion and hug (manly tears). Gouken explains to Ryu that as he was about to die at Akuma’s hands, he tapped into the power of nothingness allowing
him to leave his body at will. Of course, he could not re-enter his body. So he drifted as a soul for some time until he went to see Tetsu who noticed it was Gouken. Turns out Tetsu is a master of mystical techniques, and
helped Gouken’s spirit find his way back to the land of the living. He says Tetsu materialized Gouken’s soul into a corporeal form. This form has a limited time, but it has lasted for many years so far. Years were he has
kept his resurrection from Ryu.
Gouken tells Ryu he is going to teach him everything he knows, nothing withheld, nothing forbidden. We see Ryu throwing a hadouken with one hand, and doing the expulsion of energy Gouken does at the beginning of
every match in SFIV. Later, Gouken tells Ryu he is no longer his student and must seek a new master, someone enlightened. He is going to tel Ryu about a man named Oro.

Chun-li, Cammy and Guile are taking on an army of twelves, no matter what they do they repair themselves. But apparently, only Alex’s strikes disintegrate the twelves.

Juri is in a shady fight club trying to find a challenge but she beats all the men there. As she walks out disappointed C. Viper approaches her. They fight and when Juri is about to get serious Viper tells her she could
still get her revenge on Bison. That it is true that Bison has died twice, and leaves it in the air that there might be a third time. Viper was there to recruit Juri. That could explain Juri’s new costume, and that leaked image
of a 4x4 bike.

4 Scientists are analyzing the body of Seth. They determined his tandem engine is salvageable after what Juri did to him. FANG’s shadow is seen saying that though it was a disappointment after all they invested to have that body brought over, luckily a second** tandem** engine was made and he intends on obtaining.

Random question how old are Ryu and Sakura? If I remember correctly Ryu was like 20ish in SF1 and Sakura was 16 in Alpha. I feel like there’s a big gap there, but people still pair them up a lot.

I don’t like the idea of Ryu being the guy who shows up at his girlfriend’s prom even though he’s fucking like 25. It’s not a good look…

Is that right? I could’ve swore I read something about Ryu being in his twenties in SF1 so I assumed he’d be quite a few years older than Sakura since Alpha is later. I suppose 4 years isn’t terrible but still a bit yech to me.

Street Fighter ages have never been my strong suit anyway so who knows.

Man hearing bison’s name as vega kinda hurts a little. Despite he started out as vega. The name just doesn’t fit for me. It doesn’t sound…right. Sounds weird.

Well it is his name IMO. Try hearing it as what it is ‘Bega-sama’ with a strong Japanese male accent. Sounds just as awesome.

I’m glad at least his English name Master Bison is catching on. I noticed on several streams commentators reading out the M in his name as Master at last.

Pretty sure that is Betelgeuse. Vega isn’t even the BRIGHTEST star in the sky, much less the BIGGEST. Vega is also a blue star rather than red. It’s all sorts of dumb name for Bison, lol. Personally, I feel it makes the most sense for Claw to be named Vega. Claw already has moves named after stars (Stardust drop, cosmic heel). Claw loves to be the center of attention. Balrog would have made more sense for Bison with LOTR Balrog’s fire stuff. Discussed this all a long time ago in the other thread.
