The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

Well Jimmy got into a plane crash when he was going to visit relatives, what if the Matsuda’s are Jimmy’s cousins?

It would be interesting if there’s a loose connection. I totally dig Blanka so I’d love to see him (and Q) in a 2nd round of DLC characters.

As I said in the former (sadly deleted) thread I’d take this approach with Blanka:

In his ending for USF4, he’s finally gained not only the respect of his mom, but his neighbours and peers. He can’t fall back on the same story now that he’s actually moved forward and met his goal.

With Dan being his best bro and Sakura’s ambition, I can see Blanka finally deciding to make a name for himself and become more of an involved fighter, taking on training and joining up with a league like the SlamMasters and playing up the theatrics of a wild beast man.

He’d have a stage persona of an intelligent, Jeckyll-Hyde man from the amazon and he’d be an intense wildcard or a beloved heel. In his win quotes, he’d taunt (Bring back his “Now you realize the power I possess” win quote) and such, but there’d be a bit of a wink to let the “audience”/fighters know that it’s just for show. He’d apologize to Dan in a vs quote “Hey, sorry Dan, wasn’t personal, just playing it up for the cameras. I know what’ll cheer you up! Dinner’s on me!”

At the end of the day he’d still be a nice guy that his mama would be proud of. I would probably take the wildcard persona over the heel, because I would marry his love of nature with his celebrity status that his persona brings him and make saving the rainforests his pet project. Through that, you could re-introduce Mai Ling from the SF: USA cartoon and make her his girlfriend and best pal after Dan and she could be part of a nature conservation moment or maybe even an archeologist. I would have it that her and her group were in Mexico or Not-New Zeland and discobered Necalli. We can have it that they disturbed him, or something did and they went to investigate it, got hurt and now Blanka’s searching either to find her or to get answers.

That way you tie him into the story and can use him as the “civilian” side of what Necali’s effect is (didn’t some people theorize or state he’d be a widespread panic that would put all eyes on him?) and see things from the non-Shadaloo or anti-Shadaloo or Illuminati forces, but use his past connection with some Street Fighters to nicely nestle him into the plot.

I think there’s a lot of potential with Blanka, story wise and move wise. I mentioned some form of training above because, as much as I like to play as him, I feel that we could go more over-the-top- crazy with his acrobatics. Have some wildman agility, with some theatrical combat from entertainment combat and you could really make some new and dazzling stuff for ol’ Jimmy. I think this direction is certainly workable, what say you?

This actually brings up a question I’ve always had; Is Blanka actually from Brazil? All that’s said is that his plane crashed or he fell out of it in Brazil. Has there ever been any confirmation as to his actual ethnicity?

You’re welcome bakfromon. I’m not sure though why you feel a link pointing back to a dragon has to exist. Plenty of kanji can be read as ‘ryu’ and be without anything having to do with dragons.

Yes, that’s because the family name Matsuda is not read with a hard sound the way it’s pronounced for the automobile brand name Mazda by non-Japanese. ズ is what would be required for the name “Mazda” to sound the same way everywhere including Japan. Either that or ツ with two upper right dashes which could be Romanized as ‘Matzuda.’

No, he isn’t from Brazil; his plane crashed there, and he’s lived in Brazil long enough to be considered a native there. He’s actually most likely Thai like his mother.

If Blanka isn’t actually from Brazil, where did you get Thai from? Just curious.

Rashid’s win quote to Laura implies that the fact that she is Brazilian is the reason behind her electricity.

The way it is written implies that they are both having a conversation post-fight and Laura tells Rashid her background, to which he exclaims with the following:

“Wait, everyone emits electricity where you come from? Seriously!?”

So the implication is either that Brazilians in the Street Fighter universe have a genetic predisposition to emitting a certain kind of chi (mutants! all of them!) or that Brazilian fighting styles in the Street Fighter universe have learned how to harness this specific type of chi better than others.

Or Laura is just fucking with him.

Either way, this probably means that Blanka is actually from Brazil or that continent at least, or that he has been native to it from a very young age (5>). I’m going with Blanka actually being Brazilian, but was lost to the Amazon when his plane crashed.

Because someone named “Dragon” going up against someone named “Great Ogre”, or" Vega" (who is named after a literal star) sounds pretty damn cool to me. Now a days, you bet on a fight against someone billed “The Great Ogre”, and you’re choices of chances to go up against him are; “Prosperity”, or “a Dragon”? Chances are most people would fight a ogre demon with a dragon rather than the prospect of prosperity. Just a personal preference in short, and since you say plenty of kanji could be read as “ryu”, ryu could mean anything to anybody. Which I feel is a part of his character; Ryu is a blank slate, you as a player project him as you want him to be.

Honestly I see what you’re saying. At first the whole “Mazda” thing started as a joke for me; because the founder of Mazda, named Jujiro Matsuda, has become synonymous to the “Mazda” corporation overseas. Similarly how Soichiro Honda is synonymous with the Honda franchise, or for a Western example; Henry Ford with “Ford”. Although, when everyone see’s “E.Honda” as a name they might think about “Honda” cars. This is intentional by his design.
Sean and Laura’s surname “Matsuda” is written the exact same way as マツダ株式会社, Which literally translates to “Matsuda CO., LTD”. This is what the Japanese refer to the motor company we all know worldwide as “Mazda”. The name “Mazda” itself, is named after Ahura Mazda; an ancient Iranian god, who Jujiro Matsuda decided to name his automotive company after.
You are correct, Mazda does not literally translate into Matsuda, but because the world knows Matsuda CO., LTD as “Mazda” it became a basis for my joke.
I’m not saying his last name actually translates into that, it’s that his surname is the exact same of a founder of a famous Japanese automotive company. Which isn’t a first for Capcom and the SF franchise.
Sorry I took up like 5 post explaining a simple joke. I didn’t know it would go over peoples heads like that.

Dan’s Father was a Muay Thai fighter correct, could he have met pre plane crash Jimmy before his father died in Thailand?

It’s possible, but what reason is there to believe that? Dan and Blanka met for the first time during the happenings of SFA3 AFAIK, and that’s when they formed a gang with Sakura.

Huh, Nash quote to Necalli: “That’s a shame. Your desire to live is what shackles you.”

I guess Necalli is forced to eat strong souls in order to keep himself alive.

This might explain how he is ancient.

This is very interesting, because Akuma mentioned ‘growing stronger by consuming human life’ in TTTB to Ryu. Could this be inherent to the SNH? A desire to kill to keep your wheels turning?

I think Rashid just notes that Laura is Brazilian and uses electricity, just like Blanka, except he chooses to word the coincidence in a “are you fucking kidding me” way (same if we got another stretchy Indian guy). Or yeah, maybe Laura is joking with him as well; now that I think about it I can see these two getting along well, gotta look for Laura/Rashid porn now. Anyways, doesn’t mean that Brazilians emit electricity.

As bakfromon pointed, Laura says that she creates electricity by rubbing her hair (which she does in a lot of her moves), but she may be joking or exaggerating how simple it is to do.

Will Ken and Ryu finally realize their love for each other ?

Watchu say Daemos

Has anybody else checked out the non-character specific win quotes for the current characters?

Some of them are hilarious like Gief’s “HOORAAAAAAAAHH”

I say…

http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/inciclopedia/images/6/63/I_do_Ken.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20150806140527

Is Ryu gay for Ken and Ken is unware of it and just sees him as his best friend ?

The sourcebook SFII Mysteries of the Hadouken.

Ryu as a playable character can be a blank slate of sorts, but his name isn’t. He was introduced with his respective kanji, then later his name’s reading representation became shorthanded with kana as with most other Japanese names.

That’s even more ironic; the Zoroastrian deity is referenced for the corporation’s identification worldwide, but at home and in the end it’s still written after the founder’s surname, similar looking and sounding as it may be.

@bakfromon: insightful examination. Really appreciated.

The Blanka birthplace discussion made me think about Rose. I’m trying to figure out if Italy is established as her birthplace since her first entrance or it’s just the Country where she lives. So, similar to Cammy, the flag indicates the citizenship. Guys at Capcom were consuming a lot of peyote during ZERO2 production naming her stage “Genova no Minato/Genova City Port” when it’s clearly Venezia. Her italian accent in IV is way stupid.

Rose is Italian.

As far as I known was Rose a little child in a group of gypsys(don’t know if thats right spelled), they could be from anywere. But Rose lifes and “works” in Venezia,so she is Italien.

For Cammy. She sounds british, lifes and works there. However since she is a clone from Bison and was made in a facility, we can stamp this as unknown with asian roots.

Not Taz , as in Taz the Tasmanian devil. Ever notice how the pronunciation of “Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku” in the English version of SF4 is “Tahtsue Mahkee SenPoo Kyahk”? Although ever since SF2 the move has always sounded like this? [details=Spoiler]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHXkfPPoy8o[/details] The Japanese pronunciation to this day still sounds like Tahts Mahks SenPoo Kyahk. Even the move Shungokusatsu works like this; it’s not “Shuhn Gohkoo Sahtsoo”, rather its "Shuhn Gohk Sahts"
However, you’re handle can be pronounced however you’d like it to be, since it’s your handle; Troo Tatsoo or Troo Tahts, take your pick .

It’s obviously because in the SF world a clear cut way of telling someone is from Thai decent is by their hair.

The accent might be sub par at best, but the voice actor who provides it in SFIV is pretty damn smokin in looks.

Spoiler

I’d probably sound like Necalli trying to talk to her.

This pic is old. She’s fat now
