The Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread: ARCADE EDITION!

I like this future. But I see it taking place well beyond the current story arcs, beyond Shadaloo, and the Secret Society. In a time when the Ryu Final scenario has already come to pass. Like 20+ years from SF3:3s.

To borrow further from the Star Wars universe, Mel Masters turns out to be a a bad seed and hates Uncle Ryu’s guts.

Ryu has a promising student, who is to become the fated rival of Mel Masters.

Chun-Li is the Secretary General of the United Nations (literally and politically the strongest woman in the world).

And Bison is now female bodied, and biologically still very young. FANG is still by his side. Well kinda…

Oh, shit. That’s what I get for not paying attention to the dialogue. Thanks, guys. I hope Necalli signs up and is on time!!

I think Karin would be a perfect host for a tournament. One of the things I’m enjoying about the SFV story so far is how Karin has been portrayed. She’s just a much better character overall and I can only see her getting better from here.

See this is what I was saying before when I was like “I hope SFVI will see Ryu not as the main character but as the final boss, finalizing his training with Oro.” In addition to that I want Sean to be the main character, who is basically graduating Ken’s training and even has his own hadouken that’s mixed with the same kind of energy Laura uses. His final test would be to defeat Ryu once and for all, and in addition to that they have Mel finally be old enough, and he’d be an even more brash and cocky version of Ken who also happens to be Sean’s rival. The Illuminati would still play a part, making Gill’s ending in 3rd Strike somewhat canonical, where we see Alex become one of the main antagonists.

Dammit, I though, “30 new posts since last night? Something cool must have been revealed!” But no, it’s just flame wars…

I’d been wanting for awhile for the first SF set after SF3 to actually be a tournament hosted by Ryu, and paid for by Ken. Because it would have been nice to have a SF tournament hosted by people that actually, you know, care about the tournament, instead of using it as a front for world domination.

But if Karin is going to do it now, that’s good enough I guess.

Yo @Daemos I feel like we should combine our two ideas and give the current Capcom writers a run for their money.

I’m sorry but I can’t condone Sean as a serious character, let alone a serious main character in any way, shape, or form. Also Gill’s 3s ending being canon goes against my personal ambition towards having Urien’s 3s ending being canon.

I’m afraid you are on your own my friend…

Basically, even though I thought about this scenario since shortly after SF3 Third Strike was released. When I used to play CvS2 I remember the semi final stage in the stadium having posted the Masters Corporation co sponsoring alongside the Garcia Foundation and I thought to myself; “Why couldn’t Ken host a Street Fighter tournament in his respective universe?

I thought that by having Ryu absent you could have Ken as the familiar forerunner Shoto character. He would host a tournament that would get hijacked by the villains of the game (I had thought re born Shadaloo at the time) who are also interested in Ryu for whatever reason and had figured out Ken’s plan to draw him out.

All the endings would basically act like CvS2 where you witness the final round devolve into chaos and you would only know the true scenario depending on if you got the secret ending. The secret ending would’ve have Ryu appear when all the chips are down and basically take out the villain in a Akuma like fashion just when they think they have him cornered. Ryu then challenges the player to the match and you have to defeat Ryu, and depending on if you play as Ken it would sort of bring the series to nostalgic full circle having the “red player 2” challenging the “white player 1” like in the original SF.

Realistically I feel like he really was a character that could’ve been taken seriously, and it was mainly the balance changes in 3rd Strike turned him into another Dan in the public’s eye. He was naive, and wasn’t ready to put on the big gloves just yet, but I feel like if Capcom ran with that and showed off his growth and development into a character worthy of main character status through mastering Ken’s technique while still incorporating Matsuda Jiu Jitsu. Not everyone has to stay a “joke character”, otherwise we’d see Ryu still wearing his magic ruby slippers n shit.

As far as Urien’s story, you’re right that would be cooler, but I feel like what would be a good compromise is that Urien’s ending would be mainly canonical, but Gill would still resurrect, manipulate Alex and turn him into his pawn to use to try and take Urien down, and it would be a power struggle between Urien, Gill, and Bison in his new (sexy) female body.

You know, this might sound stupid, but I kinda want Capcom to reuse the Dragon Ball GT ending for Ryu and end Street Fighter that way. Basically with Ryu and Sakura leaving everybody to become the ultimate martial arts masters, while the rest of the world lives on, free of the threats from Shadaloo and the Illuminati, and Karin becoming the annual hostess of the World Warrior tournament

Ryu should never be super important to the plot. He’s the main character of Street Fighter, but not necessarily the protagonist.

It’s like DOA5 where Helena is the one who organizes the tournament instead of the usual criminals. Because she’s a rich, blonde girl. In the fifth main entry of the series. Hmmm

That is the exception, but the general rule is that Ryu has always been both critical to the main story arc and the protagonist.

It isn’t necessary of course, but I doubt Capcom will be changing their mind about this anytime soon. Considering, the poor-lukewarm reception SF5 is receiving, the last thing the franchise needs right now is to let go of its main characters.

The less we see Rose, the better, imo. With no fighting style and no fighting outfit, the only thing she can relate to is the SoulPsychoSnHPower nonsense. I’d rather see fighters, not fortune tellers, and I’d rather see stories that revolve around character interactions, not around power source interactions and prophecies.

<- Before you point it, Poison is nowhere near such an offender as a non-fighter. She’s into wrestling and street brawling, and at any rate her impact in the story is minimal.

What’s this I read about Bison getting a female body?

Then after all is said and done, Ryu part ways with Ken now that he has a son to take care of and Eliza is having another baby and he retires from fighting to take care of his family. He leaves without saying goodbye because he is just not able to say it to him… after Ryu left them he’s found by Ken again where they have their last fight, flashback images appear on screen throughout their years of rivalry while Ryu gives a monologue regarding their friendship.

Spoiler

Yes this is literally taken from Furious 7 but I just fucking love that action movie, I just think the series is awesome don’t judge me pls.

Is it just me, or does it feel like Nash is actually the main character of SFV rather than Ryu?

I mean, yeah Ryu is blatantly the guy on the box, but that is kind of just for sales. Ono has said flat out that as long as he is in charge they will never do the SF3 thing again, which KIND OF sucks, but I understand why they wont do it. I want them to take chances, but I also want SF to continue to sell and obviously the two are mutually exclusive. Kind of like how people say they WANT Call of Duty to change it up, but they barely do and yet it always sells gang busters.

Depends on what you mean by ‘main’ character, because there are many ongoing subplots and many of which are about equally relevant.

Nash is definitely up there though. Going by the CGI trailer alone, it’s between Nash, Bison, and Ryu. Necalli too probably.

I’m also glad that they won’t clean up the cast again. Don’t get me wrong, I want progress. But I want progress for the Street Fighters we know and love first and foremost. I think SF5 struck a good balance, but mostly because the returning characters have been somewhat reinvented across the board. None of the newcomers end up feeling like third wheels as well. At most, it should be 60:40 old to new.

Just for clarification: Where was it said again that Sagat hosted the SF1 tournament?

Daemos has an unhealthy obsession with Bison. It only got worse when he found out about Demitri’s Midnight Bliss and the results of the technique…

There’s a reason he’s so keen on having the story progress to the point where Bison is in a Cammy-style body

Hey I just figured the character’s backstory literally allows him to be reimagined as anyone and anything (so long as they keep the white pupils, purple flames, and that colgate smile). So why not flesh him out and explore that facet of the character, especially if we are intent on bringing him back - *Forever. *

The Plot Guide did it. It wasn’t me I swear!
